Transfer targets from relegation threatened clubs

  • Signing for a club that is greater than Tottenham and Forest
  • Signing for a club that seems to be on a better trajectory than Tottenham and Forest
  • The chance to get fast-tracked at a major club if they do well on loan
  • A more lucrative pay package in comparison with what they are currently on
Lots of young centerbacks were signed by big clubs and loaned out because, while talented, they weren't quite ready for a starting role (and being a backup would have hindered their development.) Like Bastoni, who was signed by Internazionale and loaned back to Atalanta followed by a spell at Parma. Or Saliba, who was signed by Arsenal and loaned back to Saint-Étienne followed by spells at Nice and Marseille.

They can stay at Tottenham and Forest if they want to, they're not obligated to join Manchester United.
The only consideration from the player should be game time and a pathway to the first team.

So in your specific example of a player loaned already loaned out. Why go to a club that’s not going to play you? Be better to stay where you are, and be able to look at a team that will play you in a years time.

There are examples both ways, but we already have Heaven and Yoro. So it doesn’t seem like, either the right profile of a player, and not one that would be of particular interest to them.

Tottenham:
  • Archie Gray - Depth option who could develop into a starter longterm.
  • Xavi Simons - Depth option for LW & can play 10 in rotation with Bruno.
Forest:
  • Elliot Anderson - 100% Starter
  • MGW - Rotation with Bruno for right price
  • Murillo - Compete with Martinez for starter role.
  • Sangare - Depth replacement for Ugarte.
West Ham:
  • Matheus Fernandes - Depth who could potentially be a starter.
  • El Hadji Malick Diouf - Compete with Dorgu for starting LB role, long term replacement for Shaw.
Burnley:
  • Lesley Ugochukwu - Depth was highly rated before Chelsea.
Wolves:
  • Matheus Mane - Long term option, adding depth and allowing to develop through a loan.
  • Andre Gomes - Depth replacement for Ugarte.
I am not saying sign all these players, but I would certainly look at using these sort of players to fill out the squad with clubs having relegation clauses in them.
Xavi Simons is nowhere near good enough for the premier league, he was one of the most predictable flop transfers ever. Bergvall, Kudus, Kulusevski would be far better targets from them, though we don't necessarily need a other left footed right winger.

There is a huge disconnect between the reputation of Van De Ven in this thread and his actual work on the field .
Not just this thread. Van de Ven is highly rated by many but his performances on the pitch does not match his reputation. I think he is the quintessential eye test gone wrong type player

It was just a nomination, as we have been linked in the past.

The reason I didn't include them was we are stacked on the RW.

Bergvall might be an option but what's his injury record like?

He looks the part, is massive and is rapid.

But his actual defensive postioning and instincts are horrendous, but looks good because he goes on marauding dribbles.

I am assuming Spurs won’t go down but for me in terms of massively improving our squad

Forest - Milenkovic and Murillo, Anderson, Gibbs White, probably Igor Jesus too as a back up striker

West Ham - Diouf, Fernandes, Bowen

Wolves - Joao Gomes

Agreed with those three, id be all over Vuskovic. I know in some ways we don't need another CB prospect but I've followed him for three years now and he looks like he'll be a superb player.

Archie Grey is about the only player from Spurs worth a look.
Bergvall has a high ceiling; already has shown he can compete physically (despite not being 'hench') and deal with a PL press. Even Sarr, I think, as a squad player might have some usefulness if you can get him cheapo enough (and definitely sign another 2 CMs).

Bergvall, I agree. He’s got a competitive streak that I like.

Sarr? Absolutely not. Younger, arguably worse, Ugarte.

I'd have Djed Spence, think hes a cracking player .

Agreed, could save us some money on a right back which is an area I think we need to improve, although it won’t be a priority.

Could say the same about Diouf from West Ham too. Unpopular but I would take Simons for depth, don’t think we’ve seen the best of him for Spurs, Gibbs White could fill that role but I think he’d be pricey. Anderson obviously if not City bound, and Joao Gomes.

Summerville would really provide us something on the left which we dont have in the squad currently..

Much better defender
Yeah Forest or West Ham have definitely got more attractive options to pick up than Spurs. I reckon they probably have around 3 each which are

Forest

Murillo
Gibbs-White
Sangare

West Ham

Diouf
Fernandes
Bowen

Could maybe also throw in Hudson-Odoi and Summerville as suggestions as are interesting wide options

I think Sarr is actually a really interesting player. He looked promising under Ange when they were on that initial decent run. Spurs won't get relegated anyway but he was highly rated in France when spurs signed him. He's got a decent amount of experience now for his age. He'd have to improve a lot but I think he could still turn out to be a good PL player in the right setup.

If his fee is cheap, I don't mind getting Bowen as backup striker. I think he'd be perfect for the role. Experienced but not too old, team player, and has great movement.

He’s 29, he won’t want to come to a club to be backup striker at that age
Depends on the player. Eze, Kepa and Norgaard were all happy to leave nailed on starter spots at smaller clubs to go and sit on Arsenal's bench.

Probably helps that Bowen is a United fan, too.

His senior career has been with Hull and West Ham. Probably the allure of Man. United, and good wage, are enough chips to consider.

I've watched him play as striker. Probably in few games against us also.
But he’s not a striker. He might fill in like Mbeumo does but he plays in a role where we are overstocked

And likely we’d play him 180-200k pw to keep the bench warm

That is bad planning

An example of good planning would be bringing in Welbeck, homegrown, United fan, 34 so would be an experienced backup striker, willing to bench sit. The fact that he’s similar in style to Sesko would be great too

Archie Gray and Vuskovic from Spurs, Diouf and Fernandes from Spurs, Anderson from Forest and Mane from Wolves.

Unless they have release clauses I doubt any of them would be that cheap though, we saw last summer that Southampton were still able to sell players for big fees despite getting relegated.

Surely he’s as much of a striker as Cunha and Mbuemo? Can’t say I’ve watched him much in the role, but is he bringing anything new there? We’re better off bringing in a winger, that could fill in when Mbuemo/Cunha are playing striker (who’d be filling in for Sesko).

He'll be a backup to several roles, and I did say only want him on cheap fee. Do you expect Isak quality on the bench?

@golden_blunder anyway, it also depend on the wage for Bowen, of course. But I like his quality. On Welbeck, of course I don't mind him as well. But he wasn't listed on that OP I was replying to.

Because I got flak for suggesting, I'd like to highlight how good Todibo was tonight. Mavrapanos got the plaudits for all the clearances, but Todibo shut down City's left side completely.

Any reason why United arent going for Richarlison as CF option to fight for a place with Sesko? Mbeumo can't continue playing up front

He's never been very good and has had a fair amount of injuries in recent years.

I don't think he's remotely good enough to provide actual competition for places. He'd be a back-up, at best.

We have so many players to buy in the summer we need to get some obvious midfielders in early. Joao Gomes from Wolves at £30-35m is a no brainer if not him then go get Mateus Fernandes from West Ham at £45-50m. One of these two deals must be done as early as possible.

Personally I’d like to see one marquee midfielder, one PL proven and one midfield all rounder from Europe. I see only 1 or 2 options from wolves, None from Burnley, the obvious 1 from Forrest but he’ll end up at City, maybe 1 or 2 from Spurs, maybe Solanke and Micky van de Van

The reality is we need three midfielders as priority, especially if Casemiro and Ugarte Go. There is no way United can buy 1 or even 2 midfield players for next season to add to Bruno, Mainoo and Mount(who is injured 70% of the time!) if Casemiro and Ugarte leave.

Anderson and Fernandes are obvious choices.
IF Spurs would go down, I'd do everything to get Vušković. He was an absolute beast in Belgium at 17 years old, and is doing great in the Bundesliga too, at 19. Towering defender, quick and scores goals for fun.

I think Leeds could realistically go down.

Whoever stays up i’d prefer not to get into a drawn out saga and think these players meet that requirement;
Gibbs White
Anderson
Murillo
Diouf

On paper, their run-in is very kind.

Brentford, Wolves, Burnley and Brighton at home, us, Bournemouth, Spurs and West Ham away. There's only really Brentford and us that stand out there.

Spurs have got Villa and Chelsea away, and Everton at home. Forest have got us and Chelsea away, and Villa and Newcastle at home. West Ham have got Villa and Newcastle away, and Arsenal and Everton at home.

I appreciate that and have seen Spurs run in. It doesnt look pretty.
However theres only 2 points separating Leeds and the other 3 teams.

It's certainly very tight, I just think they'll fancy themselves to get enough points.
