Talk about us being in for Chillwell this morning in the papers, £60m.

Personally don’t want us to pay that much for him, decent player mind.
Zero chance. Left back is probably about 4th area at highest to bring a player in at. Let alone for what would probably be a half of our summer spend.

Get rid of both and as someone else has commented..... I am sure for £15-18m we could find numerous interested parties in the premiership
I'm all for selling him but in this window with all the shit going on and considering that we need to find a centre-back. There's still a player in there. Not a concern that he's on our books.

We have bigger worries

Short of Shaw getting injured, we wont be looking at a LB. Manager loves William's but Shaw is playing too well. This is Shaw in second gear by the way!

Yep don’t believe it either as it’s not an area that we desperately need to strengthen.

It’s most likely Leicester trying to start a bidding war/get Chelsea or Man City to pay up.

Highly doubt we our replacing Shaw tbh, been a fine performer all season, and getting into some very dangerous attacking positions post lockdown.

If by some chance we are looking to convert him to LCB, which I can't see, don't think he has started CB in back 4 before, but could be wrong, thin I would much prefer us to be in for Digne.

Really? I just don’t see him as a CB at all. He’s great as a LB, we should leave him there with Brandon a great understudy
Not saying it should or even will happen but I think he does have the attributes to play as a CB actually. He’s big, strong, good pace, ok in the air and decent on the ball. Better left backs than him have ended up playing CB

I thought Shaw did really well when played as a left sided CB in a back 3, his passing ability and pace would complement well with Maguire, will be interesting if Ole will play him as CB in a back 4 if we bought another LB.

It says a lot about our deadwood doesnt it when we are hoping to get £50/60m in sales when you consider what can be bought with £60m is very little.

I must say though, I find it bemusing some of the low values people on here have of some of our players. Jones for example many seem to think we would be able to even get a fee for
50-60m can buy you one good player. Example: Grealish, Donny Van de Beek, Konate, Upamecano, Zanoilo, Partey etc.

Some have suggested Shaw playing LCB. So Chilwell Shaw Maguire AWB.
I can see that Shaw has done ok in back three but the idea of him playing in a 2 is crazy to me. He'd get caught out in the air and I think he struggles with his positioning on the inside so I think he would get lost. The back three has worked because there is extra cover inside and outside.

I don't agree with this. With Bruno in, Matic, Fred and McTominay all in form and competing, and Mason blowing up, and with our new system requiring more attacking full backs, I would say left back and maybe even centre back are the weakest parts of our first XI. We do still need attackers but that is because our rotation options are a bit weak. To improve our first team we might well look at left back. I like Shaw but he is not good enough going forward, and Chilwell is better. There is some logic in it, especially if we could get good money in for Shaw, who is still a good player after all. Chelsea need a left back...

Chilwell is decent but is he the level we should aspire to? I'm not convinced.

Both keepers excellent with the ball. Maignan is a specialist at saving pens too.

Well that is kind of my point. Our dead wood of 5 or 6 players would allow us to buy one good player. Look at our net spends the last couple of years and we could sign one of those and Grealish and still be our highest net spend in a while

Yeah Upamecano/Konate would be quality, however don't see us interested in a DM at all

Onana doesn't really strike me as a PL keeper. Would do a lot better in Spain.
Completely agree. He's a great shot stopper with excellent distribution. Haven't seen anything to suggest he has the capacity to command a box/thrive under long-balls/set-piece bombardment tactics.

Of course, this could be because I've never seen him play in these circumstances, but there's something about him which strikes me as lightweight. Although I did think the same about Ederson to be fair.

A dodgy start and recent form aside, De Gea has generally done OK, with a similar set of weaknesses.

True, but that was with the backing of the greatest manager of all time plus some of the best defenders the league has ever seen (albeit with them coming to the end of their careers) to help him.

I'm not convinced clubs would give him the season or two he may need to transition to the league. I doubt DDG would have made it now based on the same reasoning.

Honestly Chelsea shouldn't overcomplicate things again and rather sign Guaita. Better than what they have right now, wouldn't cost crazy money and still should offer 2-3 good seasons.

They could do worse than offering us £15m for Sergio Romero. He’s been so solid for Utd and not let us down. Decent at playing out from the back.

Loan Chelsea Dean Henderson? Is it really so bad loaning him to a similar environment that he’d potentially be coming into?

What if Henderson enjoys London so much he'd want to stay ?
Not a good scenario if DDG keeps up his patchy form.

Strengthening a rival? All well and good it being useful for him to get experience of a top level, but loaning him to them would never ever happen. It's illogical.

Hopefully they will be coming 5th and playing Europa League so no point taking away from Sheffield...

Well in normal circumstances I’d agree but we’re in a tricky situation where we don’t quite know how Henderson can cope with not being busy for long parts of the game. Also if he makes a mistake and he’s in the news all weekend, how does he recover? It would be good to see that.

Whilst we got De Gea, who seems to have Ole’s backing, and he himself is planing on staying here long term, how do we make an informed decision if you like, on whether to move De Gea because Dean Henderson is good enough, or do we stick with De Gea and look elsewhere?

We’ve been burned plenty of times since I stared supporting United. In fact, only VdS and De Gea have been successful - and some talented keepers have come and gone after having nightmare time over here.

And he gets an England spot which would give us some indication how he is able to cope mentally. I’ve got no doubt about his ability to be a really good premier league goalkeeper but is he one of the best in the world in ability and mentally which is what essentially you need to have to make it at United long term.
