He's a very creative midfielder and a solid playmaker, but he's defensively suspect though does work hard. I suspect that he'll play a similar role to Thiago or even alongside him in a 3 against more defensive sides. If he replaces Wijnaldum, he'll offer better passing and more creativity but possibly less movement, energy, and defensive reliability.
