Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2024/25

I’ve tried to find the exact quote, but I remember Amorim mentioning - possibly in a post-match interview - that he's playing Bruno deeper because, at the moment, we lack a player who can consistently progress the ball.

He also pointed out that Casemiro’s role has changed, implying he’s being used more as a deep-lying playmaker rather than a pure ball-winner like Ugarte. Amorim said, "I think Casemiro gave us a little bit of calm. Sometimes, he takes a little bit long when he was not playing too much, you feel it in the game against Newcastle. The pace was not there but he is giving that first moment of build-up, and then you can push Bruno [Fernandes] near the goal, so he's dangerous there."

Now, although Bruno did play deeper in that specific game, the fact Amorim described him as "dangerous there" suggests to me that he ideally wants Bruno operating higher up the pitch—understandably, given he's arguably our best finisher. That would naturally shift the focus toward finding someone who can replicate what Casemiro offers: calm in possession, ball progression, and solid defensive output.

This is probably why we’re seeing strong links to someone like Ederson, who could potentially complement Ugarte very well—combining technical ability with defensive grit.

I could be wrong - and at first, I also thought Bruno would start next season in the pivot. But another thing someone pointed out was that Amorim used Pedro Gonçalves both as a No. 10 and as an 8 at Sporting, and I think that might offer a clue about how he sees Bruno fitting in.

Depending on the game, Amorim could drop Bruno deeper - just as he has in the last couple of matches - especially if he needs more control in the build-up or wants to overload the midfield. But I still think the starting point for Bruno will likely be in the No. 10 role, where his creativity and finishing are maximised.

Striker
Bruno New RAM
Dorgu New CM Ugarte Amad
I agree with this. You could swap Amad as the RAM and buy a RWB but I think you want a real difference maker in that position. Especially if Delap is the striker coming in. Cunha, Wirtz, a proper high level player.
Adam wharton in midfield would be the dream.
Win the Europa league and we could transform this team overnight.

I appreciate the detailed answer

You're welcome. Like I said, I could be wrong - but given how ineffective we've been in the final third, I think having Bruno positioned higher up the pitch could really help us create more meaningful chances. If we manage to bring in a clinical striker and a No. 10 who can consistently deliver, it could make a huge difference to our overall attacking threat.

Tier 2:

The release clause info seems to come from Nick Ames, whilst Steinberg and Jackson are there to report on Chelsea and United's interests, respectively.

A bit more info on Delap (Tier 2):

  • City aren't expected to trigger the buyback clause.
  • Delap will likely prefer a team that'll offer him European football next season.

Surely if that's your choice, Chelsea is a no-brainer. They're not great at the moment but they're full of talent and have plenty of money to keep improving. As a striker you would have to look at our squad as wonder who exactly is going to be creating chances for you.

Depends really. He may look at the churn at Chelsea and competition with Jackson as being less attractive than filling a more obvious gap at United. If we were to win Europa it would probably tilt it in our favour.

On the flip side you look at Hojlund and Zirkzee and probably back yourself to come here and become the starting striker immediately. Not as clear a path at Chelsea, I would think

Maybe the most creative midfielder in the league?

Italian clubs will offer a loan with the option of another loan and then another with the parent club still paying 99% of the players wages.

Yeah If I’m Berrada and an Italian team calls me I would say make a serious offer right off the bat or I’ll have to move on. Honestly 0 point doing any deal with the offers they make, we’d be better putting him in the u21 and hoping he finds the fire

More info from Matteo Moretto:

Source (Tier 1):

Rasmus Højlund, possible return to Italy: Juventus are thinking about it.

Napoli, target Davide Frattesi.

Tonali-Juventus, Newcastle's position.

Negotiations underway for the renewal of Weston McKennie with Juventus.

To be fair to the new regime, Villa pay 75% of Rashford's wages while Betis pay 84% of Antony's wages, and iirc Chelsea pay at least 80% of Sancho's wages, clubs now know that they can no longer low-ball us with loan deals where they pay little bit, they know that they will be in the hook for the majority of the wages as well as a loan fee too.

I don't recall the club selling any player since INEOS came in, but I hope they sell at reasonable fees this summer.

They nearly managed it with the £25m fee for Sancho. Maybe they still will.

Depending on how well villa do they pay more for Rashford

Scott, Greenwood and AWB

I don’t think Delap is the one we need.
Could be good business I think, especially if its a reasonable price. Then we can hopefully make wise investments in other areas.

But I agree, if money wasn't an option he wouldn't be my first pick.

If Juve want Hojlund, they'll probably give us €15M max with all the add-ons, and we’ll still have to cover part of his wages, won’t we?

Fair enough. I think they were in charge but I also remember SJR saying that the team was only in place after the summer, he used that as an execuse to explain why EtH was kept in the summer.
