Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2024/25

On the flip side you look at Hojlund and Zirkzee and probably back yourself to come here and become the starting striker immediately. Not as clear a path at Chelsea, I would think

Exactly, any striker would look at the strikers and think they're poor and he is better. A top striker would know how their own ability shapes a great deal of the chances they get, Delap would never in a million years look at Hojlund's performance as indicative of his own at United unless he just doesn't rate himself as a player. He would also look at Bruno Fernandes as one of the consistently high chance creators in European football, the 'no service' narrative is nonsense.

Agreed, especially if we can keep Amad fit for a full season.

This Cunha signing is interesting. No strong opinions but it may be helpful to anchor with useful comparisons.

Cunha will be 26 by the start of next season. He has 36 G+A in 58 games his last two seasons for wolves.

Jota, Olise & Trossard transfer comparisons below.

PlayerG+A two seasons prior to transferAge at transferFee (Year)

Michael Olise29 (56 games)22£51m (2024)
Trossard20 (50 games)28£27m (2023)

PS. Forgot to include James Maddison.

Thanks for this!

Signing all these players is pointless unless we replace the clown in goal with a semi-competent keeper. That should be our priority, and is as clear as anything after yesterday.

Those numbers are impressive. He is obviously a good player, and he reminds me of Captain Bruno a bit in that you can see yourself loathing him if played for anyone else.

And with that comparison, am I wrong to question if he would fit as a lead-the-line striker? I see him more as a 9.5 but heavily leaning towards a number ten. He seems to like dropping deep, no?

He’s a support striker or whatever you want to call it. He would add goals and service to the main CF

Seems like he is viewed as a 10 who can score and create, his numbers in the PL are good.

Cunha is probably the one player I’d be really upset if we missed out on, we should have signed him before he went to wolves.. He’s got United player written all over him

Wouldn’t be against this. It’s a shame but he’s too affected by the pressure here. I think Zirkzee will be a much better player.

Still need a proper striker, so although I rate Cunha not sure he’s the player we should be prioritising?

Yeah he's the profile Amorim wants out of Garnacho and Rashford. He's more technical than they're can dribble centrally and plays with his head up. Will also run behind defenses and score.

Ideally we get the expensive striker and Cunha, however unlike City and Chelsea we have a budget
I think it’s possible if we sell Garnacho and raise at least 50m for him. Plus sancho and rashford sales. Should be realistic to get Cunha plus Gyokeres/Osimhen. But we still need a RWB aswell as potentially another CB

Yeah not forgetting midfielder too

Who are your targets for each position?
Gyokeres/osimhen. Cunha/Dibling. Frimpong/Fernandes. Not really seen us linked with any CM but we definitely need to target a really good passer and someone who can set the tempo, break the lines.

We need a keeper it is an absolute necessity to sign one. We also need a striker desperately, those 2 positions are absolutely essential in the summer. After that we can filter through priorities between centre mid, wing back and attacking midfield.

Angelo Stiller is in the 97th percentile for progressive passes from CM/DM

Yeah this worries me. Maybe we see Fernandes in the regista role going forward and think Amad should be 10 along with Cunha or someone like that.

He is growing in that role to be sure. Before he moved deep, every time he was back to goal about to receive a ball, I braced myself because he was going to get tackled, give the ball away, lie on the ground and cry. I still doubt he is a proper regista but can't argue the form he's been showing.

Would you not rather cuhna and delap rather than 1 expensive striker?
I'd prefer a top number 9 and a cheaper 10. However, I understand that top number 9's are quite limited. It seems to me that we've looked at it and thought that we can't get Osimhen or Gyökeres, so we'll get a cheap 9 and try to balance it out with a prolific 10.

First time I saw Cunha playing was when he ran at UTD in the first 5 mins at OT playing for Wolves. Absolutely frightening. Ran us ragged all night. He's real quality. As for the temperment....as a UTD player he'll be targeted. That'll need sorting and should be reflected in the price.

Yeah definitely looks that way

I'd rather go for broke with a ST, prolific 10s aren't guarantees and we already have that with Bruno. I'd rather focus on a ST, CM, and a GK this summer. I don't think our defense will ever trust Onana completely. I don't like Bruno as a deep playmaker I think we still lose physicality and we're not utilizing Bruno to the best of his abilities

First time I seen him was at athletico Madrid where he was a powerful runner then, but ridiculed for his finishing. That’s when they were playing him as a 9.

I like Cunha but once again I think we are being daft spending £62.5m. Compare that transfer value and age to the other players you mention. We cannot afford to overpay even by £5-10m anymore.

We really need to start signing 2-3 players every summer on free transfers. Even if they don’t work out they can be sold the season after. We should be all over J David for example. This is how Real have built an elite squad whilst building their new stadium, and remained being successful (albeit this season).

What would a CM do when the goalie will allow every limp kick into the goal?

Prevent us from being overrun in every single game ? - at the moment we have Eriksen who will leave, Casemiro who probably will leave, Mainoo whose future is insecure - that leaves us with Bruno, Collyer and Ugarte (maybe Mainoo and Mount who can stay injury-free 2 months at best).

I would much rather start the next season with Onana and Altay and 1 new quality midfielder - than I would with those midfielders and a new goalkeeper.

But - of course we need both

Getting rid of Rashford (40m), Sancho (25m) and Anthony (25m), freeing up about 700k a week and bringing in Delap (30m) and Cunha (62.5m) for their release clauses would be decent business.

I'd be happy with that!
