Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2025/26

This feels like we have our priorities backwards - i.e. it should be that after signing a new GK, ST & CM Utd still want Mbeumo
You don't always sign in order if priority position for obvious reasons.

I’d say a player like Mbeumo is much higher priority than a gk. yes Onana is shite but we’ll automatically leak fewer goals when the opposition is actually concerned about our attacking players.

Very true. Best form of defence is attack.

Really hope it happens today. Would like the club to draw a line under these signings and move on to the next order of business...

A lot can happen in 5 days. Don't want Mbeumo to reconsider or more clubs to come in because we dallied

The transfer window being open doesn't matter, we can sign him regardless. It's just a registration window

Who should we be targeting (realistic)
Hayden Hackney this year and Adam Wharton next summer or in the winter, we need a strong core of homegrown and I would develop Kobbie too, if Amorim doesn’t cut it , we will have very few wingers left for a new coach’s 433 system, so we can’t make the same mistake with midfield players.

I have a feeling Adam Wharton who is a northern lad from Blackburn will want to return North, he’s not getting in the City or Liverpool team and with wages of £35k per week, currently they won’t keep him, if they are not allowed to play in Europa this season then he will be gone by January 1st 2026 for £75m.

Incorrect
We need to score goals to win games

Goal keeper situation, whilst bad, was over stated because we simply couldn’t score

Transfer window technically shuts again today as was only open so clubs in the World Club thingy had a chance to strengthen before it starts. We can still sign players though, just not registered until 1st July.

Nothing changes for us between today and tomorrow. We have no matches to register him for before the next window opens.

It's very clear that the ordering within our transfer strategy this summer is based on opportunity.
  • We've gone for Cunha and Mbeumo first because they are premier proven talent that (hopefully) can be acquired for relatively modest sum. As such there has been quite a bit of interest in them and by moving early we get ourselves best positioned to get them
  • We went early for Delap because due to his release clause it was felt there was a good chance of getting a "decent" (YMMV) no 9 for a bargain price. Once the "bargain" had gone, we slowed down.
  • We haven't gone for a GK yet because, and not sugar coating it at all, we could choose from 20-30 different candidates in the "up to 20m" bucket and they'd all be a massive upgrade on Onana.
  • As for Gyokores, since the rumours with every other club going in for him have died down, it feels like his agent has told clubs who approach that he's waiting for United. Also for the ST position, it's good to get the 10s in first, so that any propective signing can see that we've done work to improve the supply to the striker.
  • Again, for CM and WB roles, there are no obvious candidates that mean we need to rush. I'm sure based on sales that we will be in for some in this area
Of course we do need to balance our purchases with sales as well which will influence timings as well - good luck with that!

A very sensible common sense post

If I could like this post I would

Does the window now close for a while? Or can deals still be done, just not signed til it opens again?

I refuse to believe we call on a daily basis, regardless of how genuine our interest is.

Remember when people worried about tapping up. Now they're saying clubs are having daily catch ups with players they haven't even bid for yet.

Spot on, its refreshing to see strategy in the market from us finally and it will involve patience.

I thought we had to get Mbeumo (or someone) over the line today so that we use last year's FFP allocation or what have you, and then can start fresh when the window reopens?

Doesn't look like anything will happen today regardless.

It can only be open a set number of days which is why it's closed for a week, otherwise it'd need to close a week earlier towards the end.

Very well said.

It's the arbitrary maximum 16 week rule that's causing the problem.

Because the newly extended Club World Cup is only going to be every 4 years then they won't change the rules permanently, so it means once every 4 years we'll have this tweak so that clubs can register new signings for it.

It's a bit clumsy, but overall makes sense when dealing with the arbitrary 16 week rule. Though why they can't just add that it can now be a bit longer in a Club World Cup year I don't know.

PSR accounting rolls over on 30th June - 1st July. Has nothing to do with this transfer window… so we can register between 16th - 30th and it still be included in this years finances.

Nonsense if anyone suggested such a thing.

Selling would be different. And it's 30th June that matters on that front.

Anyone else feel that the mid table top talents like Mbuemo, Cunha, Joao Pedro, Semenyo, Kerkez etc all getting snapped up by the bigger clubs will make the league a bit easier next season? Definitely weakening the middle of the table and allowing traditional bigger teams to flourish and pick up more points.
