Tyler Adams…

We are taking our demand for PL proven to ridiculous levels, whilst not willing to pay the going rate. We are acting as if all the best players in the League played in the PL from day one, watch us two years down the line haggling with Brentford begging to sign Sangare for £80m whilst they demand £100m when his data suggests he will do well and he is gettable at a reasonable price whilst we pay 50% more for a more polished Ugarte.
Haven't heard directly, but seen quotes Mitten said we passed up on Spanish midfielders due to having not played outside of Spain. We do seem to be putting a lot of stock in it for our first choices.
Where do all the strong opinions about him (mostly negative) come from? Do people on the Caf genuinely watch him with interest?

I'm barely aware of his existence.
He's the archetypal Red Bull midfielder and mostly the type of midfielder we want to move away from.

If we sign a starting level midfielder, both Mainoo and Santos will be on bench and only be rotation options.

Given Santos has left Chelsea for regular 1st team football, and Mainoo has been a key part in our midfield last season, we will end up creating a Chelsea like situation if our first choices are fit, bench options don't get a lot of gametime to prove their worth.

Hence a Sander Berge/ Tyler Adams type of signing works according to clubs opinion I believe. Though having watched Tyler Adams, he gives Fred vibe, amazing engine, not great on the ball.
I really like mainoo but if we can sign someone better why wouldn't you? It would be on mainoo to compete

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and hope mitten is making this up. I refuse to believe we would be that stupid when some of the best midfielders the pl has had in recent times have come from la liga

Think this is just paper nonsense, he's had a lot of Injury problems and I don't see us risking that with the amount of sicknotes we already have. No chance this happens

I think we're just risk averse. When all the prem proven targets are too expensive or not available, we will pivot like we did with Lammens.

We hhave already seen just how little Carrick played Ugarte, buying limited players just wastes money regardless of fans feeling like it is a good bargain.

Look at Norgaard for Arsenal, cheap "squad player" who was pointless because the manager simply didn't trust him enough to play a significant role. Just wasted fee and wages if they are not trusted to contribute.

Seeing the way Carrick refuses to both with Ugarte much, says to me that he won't be encouraging us to buy players who are that limited on ball. But who knows with United.

Because of the additional games Carrick is going to have to use more players this season so we have to sign someone. Norgaard just gave Arsenal an extra body but he only cost 12m, Adams would be closer to 4 times that.

Adams doesn’t seem like someone Carrick would use a lot and if the club is trying to make their money go further spending such a large sum on Adams just wouldn’t make any sense. I can only see him being a target if we miss out on numerous other players before the end of the window but who knows.

To those saying "hope we sign a squaddie because of Mainoo and Santos"

I wonder if they would have complained when SAF bought RvP alongside Rooney because we already had Chicharito and Welbeck.

Surely Bournemouth won't sell both Scott and Adams anyway. I'm hearing a reasonable fee but if Scott goes to Chelsea for another hugely disproportionate fee, then Adams goes nowhere.

Would rather keep Collyer and give minutes to the Fletchers, Thwaites a other youth than spend money on Adams, he is a decent player but does not raise our floor or ceiling just our depth.

So we won't sign players from La Liga, so they want PL experience players, but will not play the prices. That could become a bit of an issue.

What if they turn out to be rubbish, what if we don't get CL? Our model is now that we need CL football financially. The PL is now beyond competitive, so not a given we will get at least Top 5. We do not have time to try and blood all those players unfortunately or we are in the poo. Don't give me that United are on some sort of moral crusade over prices. We don't have the money due to bad purchases in the past yet still having to pay other clubs for those bad players and no I don't particularly want Tyler Adams either. I think we are being gaslit.

I agree this is probably a nothing story, am not saying I do not want a 3rd midfield signing, just do not think Adams is that much beyond Collyer anyway

Collyer is and should absolutely not be an option for us in the coming season. He needs to play football and a lot of it.

I do agree that if they are not going to sign quality then why bother. My worry is that they are now not bothering too much as they know quality will cost a lot of money. They have seriously misjudged the market and are arrogant enough to think the name of Manchester United still makes other clubs quake in their boots.

Collyer is rubbish and Adams is much better.

Adams isn't a terrible player, but a club our size should be able to get much better, but due to bad management and bad judgement we aren't.

There are obviously much better players than Adams. However, the parameters our club seems to be working within at the moment are ‘are there much better players than Adams for £35m?’. We could sign better players than him, but they would cost more money, and the impression is that we are pursuing players based on their price first and foremost this summer.

I hope it works, because it will make us look a bit daft if it doesn't. They cannot keep banging on about being such a world class club if we skimp on signings. Surely there should be a happy medium. I am happy with the other two signings and Darlow. Just thought the third midfielder would be a Wow moment. They might surprise us yet.

Tielemans is the RVP. Only two of 2/3 of them are going to start and Mount is there too as unreliable as he is and then the youth players. I think we aren't going to sign another marquee player unless it's a really good deal for the club. It's a really boring underwhelming transfer window I get it but all the daily negativity on here you'd swear we haven't signed anyone yet or we have no plan at all.

We've lost 2 midfield players, one to injury who will be back and sold on, and we've since signed 2 good midfielders, one in his absolute prime and one with major potential. I would argue that we are finally playing the market in a sensible way. It's boring but I guarantee you once the season starts we are going to be as good as if not better than last year if we can keep Bruno in decent form and collectively develop a way to replace Casemiros goals.

I’m not convinced personally.

I don’t necessarily want us to spend money just because, but I do want us to get the best players and more specifically - I want us to get the players we identify. Like, there’s a famous saying of some people do what they want, some people do what they can. More than the price, I would just like our targets to be based on who we want, not who we can.

I think my main reservation about signing Tielemans for example is that I strongly suspect we signed him because he cost 35m, while the players we actually want are going elsewhere.

Getting the players you WANT is more indicative of a clearer team strategy, with you recruiting the pieces to an already outlined puzzle. Getting the players you can would lore suggest that you need to wait until you finish shopping and then decide a way to play based on the players you have. It’s reactive.

That is a worry. It could easily spiral out of control. They have to get CL football regularly. Unless you win the EL, then it generates bugger all money and until they build this stadium and can generate huge sums, they are like someone who has been let loose with the credit card with no thought about if they can make the monthly payments.

same

He is a midtable PL player, not good enough for a CL side. I hope we have higher ambitions.

He is good for a specific role and would be a depth option but that only really has value if the player can be depended on and his injury history is awful. Lots of people are down on the idea of Kone due to fitness issues and yet Adams has a worse record and is a significantly more limited player, all whilst being not much cheaper. If we are shopping on a budget he is not the option I would take.

How much can Chelsea spend this season? I thought they were already in PSR trouble and they got Rogers for big money (+ Palestra and Quenda potentially at wing backs).

Can they really do the Scott transfer for 80m+?

Yeah they will find a loophole like always

There's far too much panic over this link.
We will only get 1 more CM at the most. This guy might be on the list but there's no way we rush our final CM signing unless he's deemed to be too good of a deal to miss out on, which really doesn't appear to be the case here. We're clearly waiting on higher priority targets until they're deemed impossible.

If we haven't signed someone else when the window is about to close then this becomes a possibility, maybe.

Tielemans is the RVP.
Then you still need the Rooney in that analogy. And Rooney was almost a guaranteed starter also.

Mainoo and Santos will get plenty of time, and will have to earn those minutes. There will be 4 competitions, and there are always injuries.

Yeah feel he's below all of the following

Tchouameni
Camavinga
Kone
Baleba

You need to be supporting Real or PSG for your sanity! It'll all work out in the end going this direction for a little bit isn't a lack of ambition it's the reality of the situation we are in. They are trying to steady the ship into a tight knit hungry top 4 unit instead of all the yo-yo and wastage and unprofessional stuff that's been constantly happening.

Imagine we signed Fernandes and he was pretty good but still needs a lot of development but now everybody wants parity? 250k a week is instant league winner type wages. Back to square one! It makes sense to create a tight unit capable of beating anyone on their day instead of randomly splashing major cash at one problem and then ignoring 3 others. We can slowly up the wages when we see the players truly become value for money. We clearly need to find a few more good players but they don't need to be superstars or majorly hyped. They just have to be good in our particular system, really hard working and hopefully fairly grounded. It's a team sport, not transfer top trumps.

Yeah I will honestly admit I still feel we need a marquee name in that midfield which this guy definitely isn't
