You should watch where Mount played under Carrick and now in pre-season. All as an 8. He is clearly being re-made into an 8, which for me makes perfect sense as most of his qualties are great there, only maybe lacks some strength, but good at passing, pressing, reading the game, can do long passes as well and is looking to play forward. His qualties as a 10 is honestly less clear.

Haven't heard directly, but seen quotes Mitten said we passed up on Spanish midfielders due to having not played outside of Spain. We do seem to be putting a lot of stock in it for our first choices.

This is scary, worrying levels of ineptitude. Some of the best midfielders we have ever seen in world football history are Spanish and we are just closing ourselves out of that market out of fear. So we are basically denying ourselves the chance to sign the next Xavi, Alonso or Rodri?

I would love to watch Mount, but he spends most of his time in the treatment room. Any plan with him is a bad plan. Since Bruno always plays anyway, he's fine as a bruno backup.

When he has played as an #8 in competitive matches before for us, the game has often flowed by past him, with him being rather ineffective and not getting on the ball enough.

I think the comments were more concerned with specific players than a blanket avoidance of Spanish nationals. We have seen some excellent Spanish players over the years but equally there are examples like Saul who was the wet dream of many on the Caf for a number of summers and when he finally arrived in the PL he looked like he had neer played the game in his life. More recently we were sold on the idea that Zubimendi was some sort of footballing savant with the Liverpool pursuit and his eventual move to Arsenal and yet he was benched before his first season was over and the pursuit of Guimares is an acknowledgement that Arteta thinks he is not good enough. I imagine we would be open to the right player but the history of La Liga imports suggests that just as with Serie A there are many players producing great numbers over there who would struggle to get on the bench at West Ham.
