Tyler Fredricson | 2024/25 Performances

Or alternatively, the defence did pretty well?
That's one alternative, the other is watching the match and seeing exactly how little ambition or threat Wolves offered.

Although by the original logic, can the defence have done well as we lost?

Not really their fault if Eriksen fecked up and also the ref was shit. End of the day the attackers had to score and the senior players really let the young lads down. Wolves have won 5 in a row, including against us, so to call them shit is a bit ridiculous.

I'm not calling them shit, I said they were shit offensively.

Say what? were not stacked at all, plus what price would you even get for an untested player. No we need to keep talent like this at the club, not sell them.
That's why I believe they give him minutes now. Don't think he'll be a United starter from what I've seen before this game, but he can show what he can do and maybe United can get some money for it.

I agree not all are starting quality, always fit & i know some players will leave, but you have 9 other players who can play CB who are already a the club ATM.
2/3 of those will leave soon (Evans, Lindelof) and some are often injured of course. Still believe they might sell if someone puts down some money.

He’s not getting sold. And nor should he be. He’ll fill a squad role as back up CB, which is perfect when we’re playing three at the back and have two older ones leaving. Having him and Heaven as younger understudies learning their craft from the more experienced Maguire/Maz/De Ligt/Martinez/Yoro/Shaw is a great balance and means we should be able to focus our funds on much needed reinforcements elsewhere.

Plus you’re ignoring our prevailing transfer policy, which is to scoop up exciting young talent on the cheap and build for the future with them m. When we already have one such player, selling him on after one exciting debut makes zero sense.

In hindsight looked more assured than I had originally thought. Surprised and pleased with his willingness to get stuck in aerially and jostling/tackles. For a debut it was a solid performance and an apt game to play in but it must be said though that it he wasn't tested that much individually. Going to be interesting to see his game and physical development.

For those that have watched him at youth, how's his acceleration/speed i.e dealing with 1 vs 1s in open space and runs in behind? Passing in between the lines, ball carrying etc?

I would say his debut is excellent! His anticipation and positioning are also excellent.

We’ve been envious of Liverpools effectiveness at selling prospects in the 15-20m range.
Giving minutes to players like Amass, Collyer and Fredricson leads us in that direction.

Ofcourse the ideal is they establish themselves. But at the same time we do need this additional revenue.

So much pressure being put on this guy. Just let the next Maldini grow.

You found the Holy Grail: A compilation without godawful music!

Kid looked fantastic. Hopefully that’s his base level. If it is, we’ve got a real player on our hands.

Collyer yeah I can see him getting sold, he's decent and I'm sure he'll have a good EPL career. Amass not a chance, we've been waiting since he was 16, he has that technical level we would struggle to find in the market. Fredricson to early to call.
It's obviously part of the strategy to sell some youth, Amorim already spoke about that, but it wouldn't be the Amass class.

I’m not saying all will be sold, but spreading minutes out makes it possible.

I think we have some very good players that can play CB at the club meaning we should be looking to cash in on Martinez in the summer. He’s too injury prone and when he was fit wasn’t that great. We have Yoro, De Ligt, Maguire, Shaw, Heaven and Fredericson. Get rid of Lindelof as well. He winds me up.
This is the worst time to try and cash in on Martinez and it's easy to forget how he picked form in the 3 CB system. He was one of our best players after a poor start. None of our defenders come close to what he offers on the ball, which is essential for this system.

Martinez/Yoro/Heaven/Deligt/Harry/Maz/Fredricson/Kukonki, I think we are good at defence and focus on ST/GK/CM/RWB in the summer.
Do you think the same or you guys like to add another ball carrying defender to the ranks?

Lindelof and Evans will both leave on a free (latter probably retire and become a coach). I think Martinez stays another year.

RCB will be Mazraoui and Yoro rotating; CCB with Maguire/De Ligt; LCB will be Martinez/Heaven/Shaw (with Yoro also playing there when needed).

Fredricson stepping up as the 8th CB when needed. Use next season to see if he’s up to the standard we need or sell him for pure profit next summer

Agreed. I would remove RWB and add another no.10 (or two) instead.

My ideal summer is something like:
1. Goalscoring no.9
2. Ball playing CM. High volume passer, good under press.
3. At least one ball carrying no.10 who can also function as a winger (think more Amad and less Mount type)
4. New GK (subject to getting Onana gone to Saudi)
5. Either side wingback who actually plays like a wingback

Excellent debut from a cool and calm guy.

I wasn't aware he's an 'exciting' talent. Didn't think he was so highly rated before? That's what I mean. A lot more talk about the much younger Kukonki to my knowledge. You are suggesting we change course because he had a good debut.

I've come to realise Martinez is a luxury player that we need to move away from. If he was short but quick and athletic it might be ok but being short and slow is too much of a liability to have. After another serious injury I'd expect it to be even more apparent. Love the guy but I don't think he has much of a future with us.

Agree with you that there's no point selling him now when injured though.

Why is that changing course? Who says the original plan was to sell him and not bring him through?

Young players always develop at different rates, especially with injuries and growing pains. You never know what role they might play in the first team until they start getting a chance in and around that level.

He’s not a luxury player, he’s simply not good enough. I see a midfielder who wasn’t good enough who moved to CB and did well in a poor league at the best club in the league. He showed some aggression, which is sorely lacking in many players, but that’s about it.

We got robbed by Ajax, and his numerous flaws are even more exposed in this system. Unfortunately we can’t sell him this summer. I wish him well, but he shouldn’t be at United.

Could be just another example of youngster, actually offering something to the table.

Summer friendlies will be interesting watch.

The change is in the 'exiting talent' part, as I wasn't aware he was particularly highly rated.

The change is in the 'exiting talent' part, as I wasn't aware he was particularly highly rated.

He made one of Ten Hag’s squads back in 2022 but then had some long term injury problems. My understanding is that he has been one of the most highly rated defenders in the youth set up for a while.

But again, youth player development and the question of whether they can step up to the first team level is so unpredictable and non-linear, that you never know if a young player can and will make the step up until they earn a first team squad spot through training well and then get given a chance with some minutes. And when they get that chance in the first team and look right at home, I find it a bit odd to immediately start talking about selling them. Especially in a position where we’re about to lose two older players. That just doesn’t make any sense to me. What’s the point in having a youth set up if we sell players on after one exciting debut.

You had me for a moment, very good.
The kid looks decent, will be intriguing how Ineos treat these newer names coming through, will they just sell as many as they can with big buy backs etc. or is there an interest in developing them?

Rough day for him, today. Hopefully our support can moderate their response and not go from calling him the next coming of Baresi to fecking useless.

He was completely shocking tonight. He was responsible for at least 2 goals that we conceded. Fredericson was by far the worst player on the pitch today. It's obvious that he's still not ready for the EPL. He needs to be loaned to a Championship side to develop more as a player.

Inexperience today and got done back at the back post for a couple of goals. I think technically very good, just physically not there yet...

Yeah ideally he gets a loan, has some potential and will definitely (hopefully) have a solid career. A lot to like about him.A good season in the championship or somewhere similar would do him the world of good.

Good luck with that

We saw Martinez get caught this way a few times earlier in the season. We saw Yoro got caught, but now seems to be learning. Fredricson was caught quite badly today. Dorgu has been caught a couple of times...

Those balls to the back post between the CB and WB are a bit of an issue currently but it's learning curve for all of them - there's no full back behind them to track the runners from wide

Difficult day but that should be great for his development. Yoro got destroyed against Southampton earlier in the season and it was the making of him. Hopefully the young lads we played today get a similar positive experience from the match.

Didn’t do himself any favours today. Had a good chance to impress and folded, more or less. Not to an extent Amass did, but still it was a poor performance

Had a bad game but that’s the gamble you take playing younger players, they get a few opportunities to see if they’re ready or not and if they aren’t then you can decide whether to sell or loan them, he’ll get more opportunities to show if he’s good enough before end of the season

He wasn't the worst player on the pitch. He was OK. There were overloads at the back post and you can't expect a kid to do a man's job against a physical Brentford side.

My thoughts too. He looks like a good technical player with decent positional sense. He just didn't have the strength or the savvy to compete with their muscle.

Hopefully people stop thinking that kids like him and kukonki are a solution for the defence next season. They’re far off getting regular minutes under normal circumstances. They need to walk before they can run.

That was the sort of performance that kills a career in its tracks. All over the place positionally and didnt have a clue where his man was. He'll be lucky to get any more minutes here after that.

Slightly dramatic, he was better than the other youth players today
