Just turned 17 yesterday but has been the best defender in our u18 setup by far.

Also been fairly consistent. Seems to be quite underrated!

he is with England U17, so hardly underrated. Not many of our players are with England youth teams. Recently we have better record there, but still 1-2 per age group at most. Mainoo and Ogguneye in that age group with him, but Mather, Gore not involved

Both Mather and Gore have been involved in recent squads.

I would say he's underrated in the mold that few here and few on Twitter are talking about him. As the OP said, our best U18 defender so far this season despite being quite young. Good times.

Shoretire, Forson, Murray, Mather & Gore have all played for England's 2004s while Myles, Wooster, Jackson, Fredricson, Ogunneye & Mainoo have played for the 2005s & Kamason, Parker, McAllister, Missin, Berry, Musa & Wheatley have played for the 2006s so quite a few have played for England recently

yes, in the younger ones. But before, since Gomes generation and around we had a few, Gomes, Garner, Greenwood, Laird, Mengi, Williams and in a few seasons before that I can't remember we had a lot of players in England setup (Rashford, Axel) and before that maybe James Wilson. So, it looks that we are doing much better job in recruiting kids, lets just hope they will develop properly.

Thought he had a rough first half on Wednesday but really showed his class in the 2nd half. Excited to see what's to come from him.

Is Fredricson injured? Seems to have disappeared from the playing stats at U21 and U18 levels.

Yeah he's the most ready out of our youth CBs (and also the oldest if you don't count those on loan). Still too early for Kukonki to get minutes in the PL imo, and Munro is raw as well.

Playing in a back three will allow him more protection, however, I would much prefer Kukonki to play, simply because there's a chance he may make it here long term. I don't see it with Fredricson. Ngwashi looks a really good talent, but obviously way too young for now.

The games I’ve seen recently for the U21’s and 18’s Kukonki has looked very raw and given the ball away a fair bit. He’s a long way off first team minutes I’d say

This is still a proper PL game not a a development game or friendly. You can't just throw a youngster in just because "there's a chance he may make it here long term". If that's the case might as well just start Lacey and Mantato.

Also we probably wanna give Shaw minutes at LCB for match sharpness as well. Fredricson on the other hand can step in anywhere across the back three.

That's fair enough. I suppose, I'm just a bit disgruntled that Fredricson is the best current option available. I just don't rate him really. Hopefully he has a decent game.

No. But you can do it if it is important to rest more senior players.

Never looked an obvious candidate for promotion to me but it's often the way it works. I'd rather the youth than Lindelof

I'm extremely happy for him. I think he has quality and is our best youth defender. But especially he deserves it after all his injuries

Definitely expected Kukonki to get the nod and Munro maybe on the bench who I really like but have to agree with him being the most ready at this present moment out of the three. Hopefully he does ok

Had a very self assured debut so far. Reading the game well, winning headers and looks really good on the ball- hope I’ve not just jinxed him!

Had a fantastic first half. Himself & Amass were the best players on the pitch.

He's playing right now but we can comment?

This feeling of power is making me dizzy.

Hopefully we're not jinxing him but a very good half from himself and Amass. Good to see with those two and Heaven we have a decent crop of young defenders coming through.

I wouldn't risk Shaw around any kind of sharpness.
