Sweeping up a lot of the young talent it seems. This is the kind of approach we should've been doing for a long time - you sign a lot of promising young players a few of them are bound to come good.
Shaping up nicely for 2-3 years time. Lot's of quality under 20 talent. Heaven, Yoro, Lacey, Amass, Thompson, JJ, plus a few other young singings

If Thompson is truly expecting to be in the first team squad as a left winger, Ineos probably don't have Rashford in their thinking for the coming season. I guess this means all the talk about re-integration is just a negotiating position.
Not really. If anything its more indicative that he's staying..
Instead of going for a 'ready made' rotation option investing £45m we spent £4-8m on someone who will be happy to be integrated over a couple of seasons

I like this. Makes more sense than splashing 50m on someone like Summerville when we aren't even sure we'll be selling Rashford. Does anyone know how he compares to Jeremy Monga?

Monga looks a lot more two footed and has played a lot more senior football. For whatever few extra million they paid he's definitely the surer bet but lots of good players go to city and never play so who knows...
This is another "market opportunity" this is the new Manchester United buzz phrase, the new we are monitoring the situation! It'll be fun to see how it all pans out. I do like these signings as squad players but Mikey Moore is supposed to be their main major attacking prospect. I'm worried we can't keep taking this particular approach and build a squad strong enough to get back to the very top but i acknowledge that we are a another year or two off challenging anyway if even so we can afford to take a few cheap punts and see. That puts JJ further away from starting, I don't mind but himself and Ajayi are now well down the pecking order and both look like very good prospects.

Worried? This isn't gonna replace how we sign first team players. This is what all the big teams do buy teen talents either hope they make it or sell of a good fee. I genuinely confused why you would be worried about this. Would you rather us just sign first team players and nothing else?

Thanks! Yeah, I think we were in a bit of an awkward situation on the LW. Cunha's clearly the first choice, and we technically already have Dorgu as an option, but it seems like he may be between LW and LB. Regardless, he's an option, so another established LW probably isn't a high priority with Rashford still around as it stands (unless there's a market opportunity heh). Our current academy options are also slightly too young to be considered sure options going into the start of the season.
As you say, I'm interested to see how it pans out with our other young wingers too, as my immediate thoughts (even back when we were linked with Monga) were that it may affect Gabriel/Ajayi.
I imagine Gabriel was only ever going to feature at the end of this season anyway (if at all), so it's not as if he's been directly blocked. At least with it being a cheap fee, whatever happens in the future should be based on merit.
Even if things don't work out with Thompson, I guess the hope is that he still shows enough to get a good move elsewhere for a decent profit. Win-win.

love signings like these, we need more. No disrespect to our academy but we barely get anyone break out , mainoo rashford far too less for my liking
He's looked very promising however he's been unlucky with injuries which have hampered his progression somewhat. If he can stay fit, he's a very good prospect.
love these kinds of signings ... low risk, high reward. Not everyone is going to be a Heaven, but no harm in looking for those situations where we can provide a better pathway for good talents.
I thought you liking this ahead of Summerville was a sign that you had seen him and had a good idea of the player
Nah, I just think his profile (young, cheap, promising) makes more sense as a rotation option than spending 50m on Summerville, especially considering our other needs. The money we save here could go into a LB.
Spur loses Elijah Upson to Arsenal and now this. They are paying out of the bank for average players while losing their top youngsters.

To be honest I doubt it means much. JJ would have had more hassle getting games next season past Dorgu Cunha and Summerville if we'd signed him for 50 million. It's just business as usual.
I feel like JJ was never going to be a big part of the matchday squad this season. He's still too young to even change with the seniors! I do think he'll get a few minutes at the end of cup games we are winning or if we are mathermatically certain of a particular league finish like the last Brighton game. He's someone we are going to want to keep at all costs but it's a balancing act keeping him grounded and giving him the best possible chance of success when he does eventually break through. Still too soon.

I also totally get why we are making these signings. It's a win either way as we can make quite a bit of money on them, they are close to breaking through and they are dying to show what they can do. I just mean we are signing these players on the promise that they are going to get quite a lot more game time at Utd than at Arsenal or Spurs who already have better players ahead of the players they are selling us. At the same time for a club of our size and the reputation of the academy I think we should at least have players as good and as ready as Tynan, Heaven or Chido already at the club pushing to get into the first team but it's seems we don't feel that we do and it's become an exploitable loophole in the PL market to find value. These are all internationally capped youth players who've done well in youth football but haven't made the final big push.
I hope Utd are thinking along the same lines with the best players around the world who are turning 18. It's been very punty so far with only Heaven really showing the required quality and Yoro doing alright. The foreign lads Leon and Kone look a long way off it but they were signed for peanuts. I mean real standout young players the likes Real and Barca or more recently City and Chelsea are going for.
Another thing that stands out to me is we are mostly buying in really physically developed young players which is something a lot of our own younger players are clearly lacking. It just feels like a there's a bit of a disconnect between the youth we are producing and the jump up to and the physical requirements around being in the first team. We should be addressing that in house and recruiting even more aggressively in the U16 age group with that in mind?
I hope I'm explaining myself better in this post even if I'm rambling. I'm just thinking out loud. At the end of the day this lad could be another really good astute signing for almost nothing and I've no real complaints about it. While there are clearly bargains to had I just don't think you can build a league winning team singing young fringe players from other big PL clubs but obviously I hope I'm wrong about that!
