Looked like a player that hasn't played for nearly 2 years.

Had a few decent runs forward, but his passing /crossing in the final third was bad.

I remember debating with someone on here whether he was quick or not. Hopefully, today settles that debate. I appreciate his tenacity but he’s just not up to standards physically. Luckily, it looks like it only took Amorim 45 minutes to realise.

His first game back after 18 months injured, he’s gonna be more than a bit rusty and the sub at HT was probably planned. You’re being incredibly harsh and I hope in time he makes you eat your words.

He does not look ready, and I think Amorin did him no favour today. Some nice moves in attack, but startet the game with one bad and one terrible pass and kept on losing the ball in dangerous areas. And no way his crossings were part of Amorin's game plan. Loan him out to a Dutch club in January and hope he'll be worth 5-10 mill come June.

Of course he's had 18 months out which is like coming back from retirement. That 45 minute runout still made me think that's what he offered before, not much more than that. I think he had one top game for us (against City) and a lot of 6/10 performances.

His lack of pace has nothing to do with him just returning. It was on display regularly before the injury. I absolutely hope he makes me eat my words too but I seriously doubt it.

Wow, he’s slow. Remember when people compared him to Evra? Must be the present Evra. Even then I have my doubts.

Decent link up play going forwards but lacking a final ball.
Yes, shocking how he was parked by Zinckernagel. I remember he was pretty quick. Maybe that one run is not fully representative.

Was understandably a mile off the pace, big risk to start him that didn't pay off. Should have taken him off before half time.
I think the plan was always to give him 45 mins. The games are training unfortunately, Amorim has already said were are going to have to take risks to get everyones fitness up

Kid will come good. Got a messy injury at a terrible time for his development and dont quite get why they started him. But perhaps that means he s been impressing in training.

I'm sure he will come good somewhere as I think he's a decent enough defender.

Just not entirely sure it will be here, he's a little unlucky as he's only just back from a long term injury and we have brought in a manager who plays a left centre back and a left wing back. Don't think he suits either.

What his appearance tells me is Amorim clearly now views Shaw as a LCB. Why would you start a lad who's been out for 18 months ahead of a guy who's fitness levels must clearly be better.

I thought it was a big call to start him. Looked okay at times but obviously very rusty

Not saying you’re wrong, I agree he’s not looked quick. But this isn’t the game to judge him, it just comes across like you’re desperate to prove a point. Especially one so insignificant.

On a positive note, I liked how much he got involved going forward, and how many crossing positions he got himself into. Okay, the crosses weren't good tonight, but that can be improved. It was just good to have a left-footed fullback on that side again.

Like a new signing. One that we have to be really patient with and will hopefully come good once he's up to it physically. So exactly like a new signing.

I must say, it did feel pretty early to be throwing him in given he's only had 45 minutes with the U21s, but it's good to have him back in the squad at least.

How the hell have you put 2+2 together and got that conclusion here?

He’s rotating the squad, experimenting with different players in various positions and seeing what works. It’s his 2nd ever game as Utd boss. Drawing these kind of concrete conclusions is just silly.

Good to see him back. Wasn’t his best game but it’s 45 minutes in the tank.

I would judge him on a bigger sample, like till the rest of the year. I'm hoping that with games, he will improve and stay fit.

Didn’t shy away from anything and saw a lot of the ball going forward, fair play to the lad for that after being out for so long.

Did look rusty in defence and that match sharpness wasn’t there, which unfortunately cost us the second goal. Wasn’t surprised he was taken off at half time.

Still great to see him back and hopefully he can get his career back on track, whether that’s at United or elsewhere long term, let’s see.

Great to see him back.

I think the best thing United can do is give him a chance to show that he's fit enough to play football.

I don't think you ever really recover from an injury of that length and the way he was outpaced for the 2nd goal is worrying.

I'm shocked that people think he was slow before his injury, I remember him being quick, quick and strong was his noticable attributes before we signed him, unless my memory is betraying me.

Its going to take him a while to get back up to pace - should not be starting until that happens

If I were trying to prove a point I would dig up the old discussion. This is simply me voicing my opinion on him while emphasising that it isn’t a knee jerk reaction based on yesterday’s performance.

And no, it’s most definitely not insignificant. Pace is vital in football today. Look at other top clubs. They have superb athletes all over the field while we have assembled one of the slowest group of players in living memory: Case, Eriksen, Mainoo (whom I’m a huge fan of), Zirkzee, de Ligt, Evans, Maguire, Martinez. Malacia is part of this same problem.

He was out for 1.5 years, but it was a shitshow yesterday. He was outpaced for the goal like he was against Usain Bolt - and offensively he just misplaced all the crosses. Very poor performance, and a hole in our squad at LWB is huge

It’s insignificant in terms of it being a discussion about a player who has barely played and most likely won’t be starting many games. In all likelihood we’ll sign another LB/LWB anyway.

I don't mean to be harsh but I agree with you completely, Malacia was a massive disappointment.

I had some sympathy with him looking physically off it defensively, given he has not played proper football for like 500 odd days. What disappointed me most was his reluctance to put balls into the box.

He and Garnacho were getting into good positions on the left and treating the cross like the option of last resort. I wasn't expecting an Andy Robinson tribute act but you could see Hojlund running the line, yet Malacia basically refused to put the early ball in across the box: Delay, delay, delay, floater into the keeper's hands. That was it and it was doing my head in.

We have a #9, all the space for us was in the wing back areas. Next time Malacia plays I hope he uses that space much, much better.

He was generally awful last night but hes been out for a year and a half so its too soon to say much. All I will say is that a good player in that position last night would probably have seen the game put to bed in the first half. He had so much space and got the ball in so many good positions and did nothing with it.

I just don’t think he suits a wing back role too much. He’s a Ten Hag full back that is better at inverting and is solid on the ball but he’s not quick enough or got a good enough cross on him. That’s not just based off yesterday either, he’s never been that sort of full back.

Awful game but we need to throw him and test him. He needs time after 18 months. We should not be harsh on him. We know that he can be a fine squad player.

Hopefully his lack of pace and poor defending for the 2nd goal was to do with him being freshly back. But it was concerning to watch

He wasnt a decent crosser before injury and that hasnt changed, poor delivery

Bad game but given how long he's been out for it would have been a surprise if he played well. Actually getting back on the pitch is progress enough for one game.
