This guy is single handedly going to get luke Shaw a contract extension

The fact remains he didnt do his job, even as a limited player. Even if we say he doesnt have the pace to keep up and pressure Osula, he does get back in position eventually for Osula to take him on at leftback. At that point Osula comes inside and Malacia not only doesnt even try to defend it, he does the worst thing you can do as a defender and turns his back on the attacker as if hes just seen him push the ball down the right wing and he needs to stop him getting a cross in. The guy is so out of phase with play hes seeing things. Maguire and Lammens arent able to bail him out and the shot is a good one, although at a savable height
I don't agree its saveable, it's an insane finish. Sure, Malacia is not good enough, but then he could also be a better full back and that goal still happen (it's not like a left footer checking back to shoot is that easy to stop given how much bend he puts on the ball). Given where the game was, and Malacia knowing he never plays, there's an argument he should have just taken the guy out I guess.

Can someone try and explain why did this guy got on the pitch before any other LB that we have from the U15 to the U21?

Its certainly savable from De Gea types, but most often a goalkeeper would read that he can only shoot for the backpost and move to catch it comfortably

Probably would have been the best course of action tbf.

He's not good enough and not right for us, but some of the bashing is over the top. He isn't that bad. The guy has barely played in the last three years, what do you expect?

Probably not turning 180 degrees when the attacker throws a stepover at him

Him not to be in the squad

Might have happened if he had an inch of match sharpness, but how would he?
Or if he had any idea how to defend

I’m with you that he was thrown into the fire after so long out and it’s a ridiculous decision but he’s a professional footballer and that was one of the worst bits of defending I’ve ever seen a United player do.

It is a chain reaction. Someone makes the bad pass that Osula intercepts. Osula is the fastest player in the league and hard to catch. Harry and Malacia are not up to the task of getting hold on him. Malacia has really not played for about two years. Osula hits an absolute screamer. Bad luck and I dont think that Shaw would have done much better here. Dorgu on the other hand would have had a fair chance of getting close enough to do something.

I would say the chain reaction begins when Bruno decided to play a high risk/low reward pass to the player that had 4 opposition players on him, instead of playing the obvious pass to Malacia that was in good position to keep working from there.

Malacia with the pile on in here, but he was the player with the lesser responsibility for that goal.

He was in an attacking position and had to track back the whole pitch, got to the player and made sure he didn't wins the touchline, forcing him to cut inside. At that moment is Harry's responsibility, but he just stands there looking while Osula prepares the shot, instead of rapidly closing in with a tackle.

We blocked his move in January to have him as emergency option. In first 10 minutes of that "emergency situation" he cost us a goal.

Another reminder why you don't keep a player just for the sake of it. If he is not good enough, he is not good enough.
It is better to use young player or switch position of first team player than use these kind of players.

Completely not his fault though. It is on Wilcox who kept him and Carrick who used him.

I think many are being very harsh on him.. he comes on, v late, we are not playing well, Newcastle are playing with great spirit and that kid scores a genuinely outstanding strike... there was a raw-ness about that goal, from a young kid still learning. It was a fantastic goal, no goalie would have saved that, it literally came from nowhere, and thinking objectively, it is one of the moments of the season.

I do not blame any of our players.

Malacia looked a real talent when he arrived, and I would like to see him go out on loan, because an additional left-back is a massive asset for our club. Let's not turn on the kid. We were not good enough against Newcastle, Carrick admitted this straight after the game.

If you have the courage of rewatching their winning goal, his defending is an abomination. Truly worthy of contract ripping.
We were bad in the second half and didn't deserve the win but Malacia single handedly lost it for us.

It reminded me of that Europa League match vs Bodo Glimt where he got completely skinned for one of their goals. Not sure why he even got a kick when we could've brought on Heaven instead.

A really bad decision by Carrick in a tough game against physical opponents. Malacia has looked as bad before in brief appearances after coming back as he is not up to speed at all.

I don't even blame him, what a weird decision that was.

Yeah it's incredibly stupid by Carrick to bring on a player that's barely played in such a delicately balanced game.

He's not going to be here next season so I wouldn't even have him on the bench. I'd rather play somebody out of position at left back if we really need to.

He couldn't get remotely close to Osula, who had him on toast. Then he gives up and leaves him to Maguire. Absolute apprentice vibes there. That awful pass to either Amad or Dalot on that RW was equally as bad. Like he was paying soccer aid or something.

Heaven was there and ready but Carrick in his infinite wisdom decided to bring on this guy instead.

Does Malacia even have an assist to his name at any point in his United career so far?

Carrick and co failed him putting him on in a position like that. He should be training with the under 21s

‘he’s been out for ages, wasn’t fair’

But how doss that translate into this

Have you never done unexplainable things in your life? We can't always think of players as robots, he barely played any football and then was chucked into a raucous match away at Newcastle at the worst possible time. Sometimes people get so stressed they forget their own name, I would wager he was just all at sea which was inevitable. It is a funny and ridiculous picture and scenario, but human beings do weird things under stress. We can't talk about how hard the PL is and then just disregard that for someone who has played barely any football at any level for years.

Carrick made a horrendous decision to chuck him in there, Malacia should be coming on in games we are comfortable in so that he can get some semblance of match sharpness and adjust to playing at the highest level if we intent to use him in the slightest. There is no planet where chucking Malacia on away to Newcastle in a tight end to end game is a good decision. I feel sorry for him.

This picture is amazing

Just saw a clip of him pirouetting around Osula and basically letting him have a free run to take that shot. It's so bad it's morbidly hilarious, kind of like Onana letting in that straight shot from Gibbs White.
