Tyrell Malacia | Manchester United player | Is in the 25/26 squad

We had spare slots in the 25 man squad so makes sense to add him given he’s staying for now. Whether he gets any playing time is another thing but he’s there if needed.

Good luck to him, still a long difficult road for him, but he could get 1 chance and if he does he must seize it.

I was a fan of this signing based on the lower fee, wages, a seemingly good personality and an upward trajectory. He looked good in his first few appearances too, though the early promise tailed off before his injuries.

It's a shame how his career has panned out, and the mystery surrounding his lengthy absence is odd.

Hopefully he gets a move of some sorts in January as I cant see him getting any gametime under Amorim this year.

Well he stays in the end but guess we couldn't get rid of every player we wanted this summer. At least Malacia is not on big wages and will be gone either in January or next summer. And who knows, he might get some minutes at some point.

Who wants to go to Turkey when you can earn a cool 4m for doing nothing, aye?

Another Ten Hag special!

It seems he has been injury free since he came back in Nov 2024 and has had 20 appearances combined for us and PSV. Who knows, maybe he can get his fitness back during this season.

Could still move to Greece, transfer window is open for another 2 weeks there.

Cant blame ten Hag for Malacia. Its not ten Hag his fault Malacia didnt play football during a crucial time in his development/career. Malacia looked like a cheap, okay-ish backup option with room to improve before the year long injury.

Pre injury I dont think he was that bad... and we paid €17m for him.
Also he missed 500 days (70 games) due to injury.

Even getting his fitness back, him getting back to the required level is highly unlikely, especially when we don’t have minutes and easy games for him to play. Him going on loan would have been best for everyone. It now looks like he gives up on his career altogether.

He looked crap from the very beginning. Yeah, it was cheapish: only cost the club 30m in fees and wages for doing feck all.

Just not true. His first season was what you would expect from a young player that is new in England.

Some good games (had a good game against Salah for example) and some bad games. If you read through this topic, you see quite a few agree that he wasnt crap from the start.

You got enough sticks to hit ETH with but the Malacia transfer isnt one.

He came from his agency and anecdotally Ten Hag liked him because he had a good game against Antony in Holland. Of course, this failed signing is on him too. He looked thoroughly mediocre before the injury as well.

Manager asked for him. It wasn’t a signing recommended by the DOF. Of course it’s his fecking fault.

It made plenty of sense at the time, we needed an understudy/competition for Shaw at left back, given his injury history. A relatively cheap punt from the Eredivisie fits that profile, and he performed passably well in the 1st half of 22/23 in that role.

Obviously, his injuries since then made him a horrendous buy, but there’s no need to pretend that it was an outrageous or shady decision at the time, just take a look at his transfer thread of 22/23 player performance thread if you needed proof.
Absolutely this. Don’t remember many complaints and the time and people seemed encouraged by some early performances.

Very unlucky with injuries and with a short career (and his will be shorter than most due to the injuries) he will stay and get every penny of his contract.

I suspect this may be more to do with trying to make him look a reasonable player so we can offload him in January. Didn’t seem like we could get any serious interest in the summer.

I can see him playing some minutes in future games especially given Dalot and Dorgu’s recent performances down the left

Christ on a bike, between Dalot, Dorgu and Malacia, our LWB position is a bombsite.

And we could have had the lad now playing left back for Real Madrid for 15 million but decided not to take him.
