U16s are once again on their annual tour of Hong Kong. They will play against Kitchee's U18s on the 14th & then Hong Kong's U16s on the 16th. Links to livestreams for both games are below.





Squad:

Goalkeepers: Marley Irving, Bill Hartley

Defenders: Locclan Harrison, Joey Akinsanya, Jack Waters, Gus Murdock, Jasper Mantato (injured), Joe Deighton, Lincoln Fagborun

Midfielders: Jed Bangura (injured), Eddie Wright, Cole Marsden-Umebuani (U15), Brian Nyonyi, Benji Houghton (U15), Reece Millward (U15), Ellis Mills (U15)

Forwards: Estan Chisnall-Devent, Mane Soares (U15), Simon Okeke, Mo Ibragimov (U15), Dane Mullings (U15)

No Jaice Dore or Ben Lyne in the squad, suggesting they could be involved with the U18s at the Otten Cup.
 
Both Mantato brothers are injured. That is really bad luck

Lyne could also be involved with Ireland's U16s who have a double header with Wales at the same time. We'll find out soon either way.

Just saw that. Wonder will Ireland try to call him up too? Looks a good prospect so would potentially be a big loss for us (Ireland). Think I read he was born in Ireland but not sure where his parents are from which could have bearing on who he decides to represent long term.

He will most definitely represent ireland long term. I’m from the same area in which he’s from in ireland and have heard ireland is his desire long term. Just experience in England camps
 
XI vs Kitchee U18s: Irving; Akinsanya, Murdock, Harrison, Waters; Nyoni (c), Bangura; Soares, Wright, Chisnall-Devent; Okeke

Bangura amazingly fit and playing. Had crutches and a knee brace on just the over week but obviously just a precaution.

Thats kinda cool you know.

Also Marley Irving is so weak for that goal. I hope it stands. barely touched by the striker.
 
1-0 Kitchee. Marley Irving makes a bit of a mess of a cross and drops into his net. VAR recommends the ref to review but he sticks with his decision and gives the goal.
 
2-0 Kitchee. An unfortunate slip allows them to break and they finish well.
 
1-0 Kitchee at HT. Been a really competitive, full-blooded game. United have had most of the ball but Kitchee looks dangerous on the break. Mane Soares has been bright.
 
1-1. After a scramble from a free-kick Locclan Harrison smashes the ball into the top corner.
 
Mo Ibragimov has a massive chance to win it but slips at the crucial moment.
 
Finishes 1-1 and we go to penalties. Kitchee have done a LVG and brought on a keeper for the shootout.

And it works, Kitchee win on pens.

Quite a scrappy game overall, not a whole lot of quality. Very difficult given the age gap and the conditions though. Nyonyi, Bangura & Akinsanya played well, as did Mane Soares before he came off injured.

Another game in a couple of days, with a lot of the younger players likely to heavily feature.

Was told his family made the trip and were sitting with the supporters group so nice little moment for them.

Anyone got the squad numbers particularly for the subs? Not entirely familiar with some of the younger ones. Just know Mo Ibragimov is 17.

deserved,

He started off quiet. but got better and better. Likes to take-on defenders and helps off ball too.

Brian Nyonyi and Mane Soares both class too.

Joey Akinsanya got better second half.

Simon Okeke, Eddie Wright and Bangura very quiet.
 
Benji Houghton makes it 2-1. Beautiful move with Murdock punching a lovely ball between the lines for Nyonyi, who turns and picks out Akinsanya down the right & he crosses to the back post for Houghton.

His family have made the trip too so lovely moment for him.
 
2-2, Hartley fumbles a shot and it ends up in the back of the net.
 
Marley Irving is subbed on ahead of a penalty shootout. Interesting decision as Hartley saved three against Tigres at the SuperCup.

He didn’t get close to any of them so that didn’t work out.

Been a weekend of poor keeping though. Both Hartley and Irving dropped easy catches into the goal and Hardy and Watson were full of mistakes at Otten Cup too.
 
Benji Houghton named United's MOTM. Smallest player on the pitch by a mile but had a really positive impact off the bench.
