U18 FA Youth Cup Semi Final - Old Trafford 7pm GMT.

If they can’t arrange their main stadium, i’m sure we are more than happy to lend them ours for a share of the proceeds. Would defeat their intentions i guess. Should be a requirement that the final is played at a proper stadium.

Seems confirmed by Andy Mitten

Absolute cowards

100% afraid they'll be shown up as not being the "real" Manchester team

Hahaha. They've absolutely bottled that.

Would have been 10,000 reds there.

Massive missed opportunity for the players aswell. Would have been a great chance to play in front of such a big crowd.

I hope this gets to be a big news story in Manchester, for some of those lads that have been through their system, a night at the Etihad to try and win the FA Youth Cup would have been the best thing that they ever got to do. Manchester City have put their pride before allowing them to have that. They can not claim to be doing what is best for the players that come on board with them in their academy and then be pulling ego-driven nonsense like this.

How utterly pathetic by City. fecking wankers.

Not surprised. Oil's become too expensive for flying in fake fans to fill up a larger stadium.

How do I get tickets at this pathetic little setup then?

Plastic Club

If they had been playing Palace instead you can bet it would have been at the Emptyhad no problem
Yep. Two years ago they played Leeds in the final, and of course it was at the Etihad.

Looks like we offered to play the match at OT but City said no

While there is an 11-day gap between their match against Crystal Palace and the last game of the campaign against Aston Villa, club officials argue playing the final in that space will rob them of essential time to complete construction work on the North Stand, which is planned to open for Villa's visit.

The club also have a test event booked for 20 May.

I think they had similar dilemma when they won it a couple of years back against Leeds. Leeds wanted something like 20k tickets and got about 4K of total 20k attendance. Moving to OT would actually be really good experience for their own players, large hostile crowd etc. real shame, really toned down a huge occasion for this young players

The latest is 'in due course'. I'm starting to think it will be a bad allocation too, like just one stand or some equally pathetic shit. What a wasted opportunity for the city and the revenue could have gone to a decent cause.

FA Youth cup final was at OT a few years back and a very good turnout, Forrest I think, I took my old man.

This is a great example of almost the gentrification of football fan culture.

The types of people that would have turned up (both red and blue) would have been mainly local with a higher percentage of those that are working class. . These are the kind of people they don't want associated with clubs anymore.

They'd rather lose money in the short term and lose out on a fantastic atmosphere created by 40,000+ then welcome some "undesirables"

Its really that City have very little history as a big club and because of the way that they've achieved success not being built on the club and community itself but on foreignmoney that only gives platitudes to the city, its easy for them to take a cynical view of things like this and kill the game for the sake of saving face

JJ Gabriels dad blames the FA for allowing this to happen, not City.
Doesn't want to burn any bridges I assume...

And he is right. It is City’s choice to do what is best for them. It is on the FA (and the Premier League with PL2, when City broke the rules there) to take action and make sure a suitable stadium is provided and to change it when there isn’t. City do what they want because they consistently are allowed to.

Allocation of less than 1k according to the BBC article.

The FA must step in here. All because the Berties are afraid of being outnumbered at the Emptyhad. This is the biggest day of these lads careers so far and possibly ever in some of their cases

Thanks for sharing, first time I've seen an actual reason for their decision.

City were drawn at home for the match but are unable to use the main pitch, with Pep Guardiola's first team still having three home Premier League games to play.

They feel they are entitled not to agree to a switch as they are the confirmed home team.

United, who last won the trophy in 2022 - when more than 60,000 were at Old Trafford to watch a team including Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho beat Nottingham Forest - told City they were prepared to host the game.

City said no, so the game will be played at Joie Stadium, which is used by the club's Premier League 2 and women's teams.

The club have used the stadium to host Youth Cup finals previously but since 2000, every other host club has played the game at their main stadium.

Two years ago a crowd of 20,000 watched City beat Leeds United in the final at Etihad Stadium.

Would it not make sense to play the final at a large ground based in the north west if they dont want it to be played at ot?

Surely Everton's new ground would be an acceptable compromise when players family and friends can't get tickets.

Given City are the only team incapable of hosting FA youth cup finals at their ground, maybe they should be barred from hosting them?

City struggling to sell out their allocation, just give it to us.

Latest Talk of the devils podcast said United have been given 900+ tickets.

Just because the useless tw@ts wouldn’t pause “construction” work for one day and have the game there… and because they knew United fans would outnumber them … definitely would have gone.
