With the FAYC semi-final against Chelsea confirmed on Saturday 21st March(17:15) would be tempted to go with a very young side tonight, the League position isn't important, and why risk players who we will be relying on in the FAYC against an Everton side who will be physical.

Even if they get shown their backsides it will be invaluable experience for them when they step-up as Scholars in the next few years.

Or give them games so they’ll be sharp for the cup game. Elanga, Emeran etc. need games after coming back from injuries. The Chelsea game might be physical as well so tonight could be good ”practice” for it.

The Chelsea game will be physical, and if players get injured in that match there's not a lot you can do, but it's just not worth the risk tonight playing anybody guaranteed to start at Chelsea if fit, i'd wrap Elanga who looked fine at the weekend in cotton wool because he's that important to the team, but maybe risk Noam Emeran, Max Haygarth and Mateo Mejia tonight with a place on the bench in the Semi for one of them if they survive/prove their fitness against a team of young Scouse cloggers.

Don’t think they (coaches) see it that way when developing young players, that they’d try to save players for another fixture that is being played 11 days later.

They need to play though. Very dangerous not playing them at all for weeks regarding match fitness. Our U18 has not had many games lately. Barely anyone played on Saturday against Sunderland so they need games. It's 11 days to the Chelsea game... perfect to put on a strong team today.

We'll soon find out, but it is Liverpool v Manchester and players on both sides will get wired in, so more chance of injury, don't think Newcastle will be as physical at the weekend and that will be the ideal game to play the team Neil hopes to play at Chelsea the following weekend.

Guessing it'll be the same for Chelsea though, and a lot of the anticipated Semi-Final team will have been training up a level with the 23s anyway.

Indeed it is. Quite close to our best XI in terms of the Youth Cup, too. Replace Bejger (who hasn't been bad at all) with Laird and Sotona with Hoogewerf, that's it. Fish/Hardley as the left-sided CB.

Any standouts here?
Thomas Cannon (just turned 17) who has 15 goals in 14 U18 league games this season plays for Ireland U19, I think. Perhaps @jb8521 can confirm if true. Dobbin has loads of England youth caps too, but of course those numbers don't always tell the whole story. Rhys Hughes Wales U19 (not sure if capped already) with 6 assists this season. But I'm sure jb knows more.

Some really nice play by United with no end product. Mjebri looks like is going through a rough patch of form. Really impressed with Devine. Has been superb this season.

Sotona 1-0. Mejbri plays a nice ball to Bejger who crosses it to Sotona who chests it in the net.

FFS Mejbri was away there, but the ref calls an offside even when Sotona (who was offside) obviously leaves it to Mejbri.

Almost 2-1 for Everton, this time Mengi playing a sloppy pass straight to the opponent.

My MUTV app went dark but apparently Elanga scores a nice goal to make it 2-1 United.

69’ 3-2, Everton pull one back, looked like an easy goal with Mastny poorly positioned. Cannon’s 16th of the campaign.
