Tournament hosted by PSV. In collaboration with the Dutch FA, the tournament features a number of innovative rules, including:

Effective Playing Time - games are 20 minutes each half, with the clock stopped when the ball is out of player
Sin Bins - Certain yellow cards offenses are punished by 4-minute sin bins
Dribble-In - Instead of throw-ins players can dribble the ball into play
Self-Pass - From free-kicks, corners & goal-kicks, players are allowed to touch the ball to themselves and then play

Looking through all the squads, United are the youngest team there along with PSV. Tournament rules allow you to bring a certain amount of older players, so some teams have '06s & even '05s. United's youngest player is 2008 born.

Fun little note is United will be facing Ruud Van Nistelrooy's son, Liam, later today.

Which of these players have the best potential for becoming a first team shout in the future?

A bit early to say really. Big fan of Helafu & McCormack but both lack a bit of athleticism at the moment. Ngwashi is very highly regarded but has been out for a while with injuries. Emsden-James also very good.
 
0-0 at HT but PSV much the better side. Camacho-Sidos had United's best chance at the end of the half as he went on a brilliant surging run but just overan the ball and the keeper was able to block his shot.
 
Much better start to the 2nd half with United going close through McEvoy & Camacho-Sidos.
 
Ngwashi is booked and given a 4-minute sin bin. Insanely harsh decision.
 
PSV player given a yellow card but NOT a sin-bin. I don't know the rules but that was 10x worse than Ngwashi's 'foul'.
 
Finishes 1-0 to PSV. Much more competitive second half but United ultimately undone by a set-piece.

No idea who's playing up top, no recognized 9 in the lineup.

Palmeiras have got Fabio So starting for them, who made the rather unusual move to them from Burnley this summer. He played twice against us last season in the U18 PL.

Bradbury is actually starting, not Brown.
 
1-1. Beautiful cross from Carrick finds the head of Ngwashi.
 
Watson hits the post with an fantastic strike, really unlucky.
 
1-1 at HT. United ending the half strongly and have overall enjoyed most of the ball. At times they've been stuck in their own half, unable to really progress into the final 3rd, but have been better as time has gone on. Ngwashi & McEvoy having excellent games.
 
Jodie Nganga booked. From what I can tell, only yellows where the player is deemed to stop a counter are sin-bin offences. Nganga remains on.
 
Finishes 1-1. United the better side and had some decent chances to win second half but unfortunately couldn't and are probably out now. Rooney was lively second half but couldn't find that final ball.

Final group game is tomorrow morning against Adelaide United, then two placement matches.

Finishes 2-2. Really poor second half from United.

They finish 3rd in the group and will now play two placement matches, one later today and one tomorrow.

I love the sin bin-this needs to become more mainstream. If only the referees got the same respect as rugby referees!
 
1-0 United. Ziro nicks the ball away from a Club Brugge CB and Mpofu is there to apply the finish.
 
2-0 United. Really nice build up from the back allows United to break. Ziro slips in Shah, whose effort is saved but Ziro is there on the rebound to finish.
 
2-0 at HT. United playing well and in control so far. DeJonge-Seiros and Ziro have been lively on the wing, while Helafu and Ngwashi have also been impressive.
 
Really like some of the line splitting passes from Carrick, just like his dad.

Camacho has been great today but he’s totally not a 10. It’s like he loses all his ability when gets near the goal, he’s had about 5 shots that were just passed to the keeper. There doesn’t seem to be any 10s in the squad.

The midfield and defense overall have been good and we’ve done well controlling in most matches but there is a real lack of spark in attack. Haven’t been particularly impressed with any of the wingers or strikers tbh.
 
Finishes 2-0. Not a whole lot to shout about 2nd half, Club Brugge had more of the ball but didn't create a whole lot. Ngwashi United's best player overall, he's really good.

Last game is against Benfica tomorrow.
 
3-1 down to Benfica at HT, Camacho-Sidos with our goal. Fairly even game but just some very sloppy defending. Benfica’s opening goal was a 40-yard lob after Watson gave the ball away.
 
Finished 5-1, their 4th coming from another really poor GK error.

United end the tournament in 6th overall. Difficult to properly judge their performance given the significant age gap they faced in several matches but I do think we lack attacking firepower.

Ngwawhi definitely the standout, he’s in for a big season if he stays fit. First-years Manu Ziro & Jaume Camacho-Sidos did well.
 
Based on what I saw at the tournament, I would go with this next week against City:

Hardy ; Helafu, McCormack, Ngwashi, Watson ; Carrick, McEvoy ; Ziro, Camacho-Sidos (JJ?), DeJonge-Seiros ; Mpofu
 
Palmeiras won the tournament. United were the only side they failed to beat.
