U21s: United vs Everton

Very good ball by Kone, great touch by Fletcher and excellent finish

I get that it's perhaps not always practical with the managerial merry-go-round at the club. However, shouldn't the U-21s play the same formation as the senior team, therefore making the progression easier and clearer?

Man City vs Liverpool going to extra time. We’ll face either West Ham or Sunderland in the quarters.

It took a huge deflection. Thought he’s been poor all game tbh. Their number 10 has had the run of it all match and Kone hasn’t offered any protection.

Good goal by Kone. Had not been up to it all game though. A bit sloppy and not up to the tempo.

Second half much better after a sloppy first one. Thought Fletcher and Kone were the best today. Moorhouse sometimes tries too hard, but his running is amazing.
All in all a deserved win, though our defending needs to be much better

I can’t tell what you mean. In terms of style of play?
He looks like him, he runs like him, he always wants the ball like him, he loses the ball like him, he scores brilliant goals like him and makes weird defensive mistakes like him

Said it before but Moorhouse’s close control is ridiculous.

Seems to run and run with the ball and then do nothing with it quite often, from what I see. Not too dissimilar to say, Jack Grealish in that respect. The talent is definitely there, but I didn’t watch the game tonight and that clip of his run posted in this thread ended exactly how I expected it to end before I had even seen it.

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but I feel like he’s involved in a few games where everyone (not literally) scores except him, which isn’t that common for a standout attacking player at youth level I find. The ability is of course clear to see, will be interesting to see if he can make we can get him to channel it and add some more substance.

This is Moorhouse's first full season since he was an U16 and even then he's barely cracked 20 appearances. He's only going to get better the more he plays. The fact he's playing this well despite being so far behind his peers, in terms of minutes on the pitch, is pretty remarkable.

In the end, a good win against a decent Everton side - although they got away with a few dodgy tackles. Wheatley looked good and I can't understand how he can't get any minutes for Walsall. Fletcher and Moorhouse were excellent, but Kone was a bit in and out - sometimes superb , sometimes sloppy.

Any reason why Kone isn't getting first team minutes?
