Ugarte appears to be out the door this summer

Pretty sure Iraola is taking charge of Milan, he wouldn't have Ugarte anywhere near his midfield. Turkey seems the likely destination and that's his level.
Maybe a buy one get one free - Onana and Ugarte

World Cup year, Uruguay usually do well and let's pray he does well enough to attract a buyer from the PL. Otherwise it will be loan after loan until his cotract expires.
I’m hoping for this as well. He usually plays fairly well for Uruguay. I can actually see him doing much better at a slower paced league like Serie A.

He won't be sold because there's no chance we'll even get the required amount for him to break even. He'll be loaned and that break even amount goes down next season. If he's loaned to the right club in the right league I actually do think he has a chance to compel the club that loans him to make it permanent the same way Hoijland did at Napoli.

It seems you are looking at "break even" from an FFP/PSR and depreciation perspective. That doesnt really matter as i dont believe were even close to being up against those caps, be it FFP, PRS or the new SCR rules.

Its just about trying to get the most possible back for a player who we know will be a tough sell.

Surely nothing happens with this until after the WC. He's looked better for Uruguay than he's ever done for us. Likely get 5-10m more for him if we wait.

He gives the impression that he would prefer to move on so Mendes will find him somewhere eventually.

If we get over £20m for him that’s gonna be decent. The World Cup will likely make him look better because internationally he looks like a very formidable ball winner as the game is slower. I genuinely think the league is just too fast and physical for him.

Can’t believe we paid 50 mil for him. Ridiculous
50 million euros, no? Around 42 or 43 million pounds at the time, if I remember correctly. Still too much for someone who had struggled a bit in France after looking great in Pertugal, but it would mean less of a hit if he is resold for 25 million pounds or so.

Here's hoping that he is a beast at the World Cup and brings in a nice fee from Turkey or Arabia.

The days of international competitions adding millions to the value of a player are long gone.

Clubs know about 99% of players.

A couple of good performances against Cabo Verde and Saudi is not going to change anything.

Have a funny feeling that this will be one of those players you just can't get rid of. Onana too but for different reasons as I expect the latter to refuse all offers and just keep taking his fat salary until it runs out.

As much as I hate Onana, I don't think he'll do that. His international career is very much still at stake and he has 10 years of football ahead of him at club level, to be throwing it all away for warming the reserves bench for 2 more years. He'll accept a wage drop and move to Turkey where he's loved.

The revisionism about McTominay is ridiculous. It doesn’t matter how shit Ugarte is, McTominay was never good enough either.
He's done quite well for himself and I've been rooting for his success in Italy since but you're right.

People moaned about our McFred midfield for years . The way we used him was rarely to his strengths either, he's not a DM/holding midfielder at all.

He'll just keep taking loans.

Yeah he’s done great since he left, but the same people who criticise Ederson for playing in Serie A which is a weaker league also praise McTominay for his performances over there.

Hope I'm wrong, but this has deadline day loan, with Utd covering a chunk of his wage, written all over it.

If we've not triggered any clauses so far in his transfer, he's currently on the books for €30m after two seasons with us. Hopefully someone is desperate enough to minimise our book value loss on him.

We really need to get away from these desperate loans. He might even have more value for us as a pure emergency back-up than being loaned out to cover a relatively low wage. Hope we manage to sell him outright.

Who underwhelmed the most Ugarte or Schneiderlin?

Schneiderlin was just invisible here.

I bet ye we will sell Ugarte for a decent fee after the World Cup. He's not on huge wages and we won't be looking to recoup everything we spent on him. I bet we will get about £30 million for him off another PL club. He's doesn't suit a club who want to dominate the ball but there are 10 other teams who play counterattack who'd love to have him. He's been poor here no doubt about it but we are seeing more and more that there is life after United for plenty of our players. Someone will take a punt on him and hope he fulfills his promise

If iit's like the Hojlund loan, it'll be fine.

If it's like the Sancho, Rashford and Onana loans, then yeah, probably worth just keeping him around as a spare body.

Schneiderlin. Because much bigger things were expected of him.

Funny enough Ugarte would also suit a Moyes Everton team. I don't think he is a bad player just the wrong player for Utd that expects to have high possession and push teams back.

Ugarte is a classic swing and a miss, which happens to every club every season with at least one player. But I do recall a great deal of skepticism over Ugarte at the time we were chasing him. Poor job of scouting perhaps, or perhaps something went very wrong in his personal life in Manchester that led to unexpectedly poor performances on the pitch. It's happened before.

Yeah I think safe to assume he didn't hit the add ons - I assume the quoted 26m EUR figure will be his value if it's correct. I thought Simeone would fancy him but we gazumped them for Ederson so maybe not very keen to do business with us.

He would be good player in a high press/ suicide press team. I don't know why we bought him as we were never going to play that way. It's a system used to negate your oppositions advantage if they are a better footballing side.

We could play that way with say a Dorgu Ugarte Baleba Mbeumo midfield but what's the point when our players are generally better than the other sides team.

The spells when he was playing more or less regularly, he was kind of ok-ish. It's hard to make an impression when you get these short cameos once in a while, and surely there must be some out there wanting him. He's good enough for any PL team on the lower half of the table.
