Bit too kind to De Ligt on the first goal I thought

If a striker gets the ball back to goal 1-on-1 and scores then the defender has to take some responsibility, it was a good finish TBF

He made up for it with the equaliser anyway

And ye AFCON is really going to feck us - let's hope their teams fail and they are home soon!

Good pod guys as always, thank you.

Agree on Ugarte, he's getting worse and has kind of become a nothing player. His pitbull aura is gone.

Its his second year. If the Barada policy holds, he will be shipped out next summer.

It’s a shame because I do think there’s a decent combative midfielder in there but he’s not showing it at all this season

Re Ugarte; The rumour is that Amorim had a proper go at him after the EL final. I wonder has that affected him a bit?

Either way, I’d expect him to be shipped out this summer

It makes sense, but it might be one heck of a midfield surgery. Casemiro will surely be gone, Mainoo's future's in doubt, and some wouldn't be certain about Bruno either. We've already heard United are likely to sign two midfielders in the summer, but even that might not be enough.

I reckon 2-3 first team ready midfielders come in, with Jack Fletcher and perhaps 1 more youngster given game time next season to make up the numbers

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Casemiro get a one year deal on less money

I have seen floating around that Amorim told him he's not the player he was at Sporting. In his defence I would say it's hard to expect him to be in the position he plays, but he's had time to adjust at this point and he's coming up short

For me, our biggest issues are at wing-back, central midfield, and striker.

Amad actually looks quite promising as a right wing-back, but he still struggles defensively. On the left side, I just don’t see Dorgu as the long-term solution. Casemiro is running on his last legs, and unfortunately Ugarte doesn’t look anywhere near ready to take over that role. Bruno is still our best player — both as a CM and as an attacking midfielder — which really tells you everything about the lack of depth and quality behind him.

Sesko so far looks like a downgrade from Højlund, which I honestly didn’t think was possible. But clearly, the no.9 role in Amorim’s system is one of the toughest positions in football — isolated, overworked, and often starved of service.

On the positive side, the goalkeeper looks decent, and the back three have been quite solid overall. We’re also well stocked in the attacking midfield positions.

I’m just disappointed that Mainoo hasn’t managed to play himself into the starting XI yet. If he could, we’d be able to move Bruno further up and gain a bit more tactical flexibility. Maybe he’s not quite strong enough for that deeper role yet, but we absolutely cannot afford to let him go — it would be a huge mistake given his potential.

Central midfield, both wing-backs, and a proper striker are an absolute must in the summer window.

I don't rate Ugarte, at all. He lessens our performances so much it is frightening.

Saw a report saying some dialogue has started between the club and Casemiro, but would be on massively reduced wages. If Casemiro was fine with that, and we can get a major CM in as we expect, and ship out Ugarte, that already looks much stronger to me.

Good pod lads :+1:

I can see him as a squad player who rarely starts... But he'll have to agree to a lot less money. Question is he if he'll be interested in such a role compared with what he could probably earn elsewhere.

Bruno might be the only one that stays

Supposedly he and his family are very settled in Manchester

For 300k a week, so would I...

But In all seriousness, If he's offered a one-year contract for far less and can earn much more elsewhere, then being settled for one more year might not mean as much.

If money is what motivates him, sure, he'll be off. But I'd imagine he could have taken a bigger offer from the Saudi's when he joined us.
