Nik (@Rood) is joined by Imran (@Annihilate Now!) and Ed (@That'sHernandez). Loads going on in this one as the guys give their thoughts on pre-season, where we are at currently and set out their expectations for the seasons. Nik also had a chance to sit down with Michael from @FootballOranje_ who gives us the Dutch view on Ten Hag, Malacia and Martinez (Spoiler alert, he thinks Martinez is bloody brilliant). We also hear from other members of the United Hour team about their expectations for the season, Nik and Ed square off in an Imran's Stupid Game, and more in this United Hour podcast, XL edition.

Great pod guys. I share the pessimism of @Rood but somehow have a nagging hope that ETH will transform the players that let us down last season.

I think the latter is what is making me feel so confident. That and I just don't see how it can possibly be worse than last season.

I'm also cautiously optimistic that Maguire being switched to the right might help Dalot be a bit more defensively sound, despite Maguire's travesty of a season last season.

Just the whole way ETH has us set up to win the ball higher up the pitch I think helps to alleviate some of the defensive issues we have, and takes pressure off McTominay and Fred being defensive midfielders slightly. I get there's a real issue with our striking options this season but I also think the front line can be covered by the players we already have, though new options would help.

I have a feeling that Maguire is going to have a brilliant season.

I'm not doubting ETH and I'm fully expecting the likes of Maguire, Rashford, Sancho, Shaw etc to step up this season after being mostly shite last year

but still our squad is undoubtedly weaker than last season - the manager has been failed by the board before he even has a proper chance

Booting trash like Pogba etc out arguably makes the squad stronger.

Mata is the only person I'd consider keeping.

I didn't have any issue with any of the players leaving but there is no way the squad is stronger now - perhaps more committed (and we still have Ronaldo creating issues on that front) but we lost a lot of proven quality

7/8 experienced players left and replaced them with with only 1 of similar calibre (Eriksen), the other 2 will take time to adjust to PL football - we have some good young players but it's nowhere near enough

I said on the first preseason pod that we needed 5 or 6 new signings to give Ten Hag the chance to compete - the board need to sort their shit out ASAP
