United - Real Madrid U21

It also helps if you focus on technique, skill, etc in training rather than physicality

Posts like this are so annoying. What do you think actually happens at academies in English clubs? Two hours of press ups, burpees and a quick game of heads and volleys to finish?

Look at all the best young players coming out of PL club academies. It’s their technique and ability on the ball that stands out most of all. The idea that these clubs aren’t interested in technical ability is decades out of date.

I’m not sure how anyone can walk away from last night questioning Chido Obi’s work rate unless you’ve already made your mind up.

His pressing was very good, created our second goal and he forced a number of mistakes from their keeper. We forced about 10 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, they were shit scared of our press. On the ball he had a very poor night, poor decisions and bad application. But his work rate was great.

And for how much praise Real Madrid are getting, we dominated them for the opening 30 minutes. It wasn’t until our midfield was completely changed that they really managed to create anything.

Worth pointing out that they had 2 players aged 23, 2 aged 22 and our eldest was Fredricson who just turned 21 with every other player 20 or below so the average age means they are a lot more experienced side and the first half hour we looked good.

Then why do they tend to have x times better skills than English players?
