We look the better side if you only look at footballing qualities, but they are much bigger and stronger. Derby with the only big chance so far, well-saved by Guadagno

It's honestly like watching a top youth outfit against a league 2 side.

14. Apparently now holds the record for youngest ever debut for the u18s and u16s.
With the way we're losing players for the U23s he might end up being the youngest debutant for them as well

Also McNeill 1-0.

Is it too early to say that Finley McAllister is the new Scott McTominay?

When does Willy come back? He looked like a tank against Stoke on his debut.

It's alright, I'm from the country.
The 2 Charlie's very impressive first half.

McNeil is much more than just a goalscorer, really puts a shift in. He dropped deep a couple of times early on and sprayed a couple of great balls to both wings to initiate attacks.

Savage really looks the part, lots of accurate long range passing off either foot. As someone has alluded to he also lives up to his surname, plenty of steel to go with the craft.

Garnacho worthy of a mention too. Extremely quick, comfortable with both feet. Played a big part in the goal, forcing the CB into an error which allowed McNeil to run through on goal.

Interesting first half, getting to see some players for the first time (or for rare starts).

We've not looked as good as usual, but that's understandable given the inexperience of the line up.

Mainoo has looked much more threatening than last week. Oyedele looks a decent versatile performer. And McAllister is a tigerish competitor belieing his young age. Gore has been disappointingly quiet so far imo. But hopefully there's more to come from him.

I wonder how many of those missing will be in the U23 squad at 2pm? I imagine Hoogewerf will be again. And Fernandez of course. But it'll be interesting to see if the likes of Jurado, Bennett, Wellens make appearances?

McNeill reminds me of Rooney in a lot of ways but he’s much more of a finisher/poacher.

We'll do well to weather the storm for the next 5-10 minutes, Derby asking all the questions at the moment.

Typical U18 refereeing that, let borderline assault on our players go but book one of our lads at the first possible opportunity.

Said that McAllister was the youngest ever U18 player for United, courtesy of Tweets from JB and Mr Mujac.
Thanks.

Very boring game today, unfortunately, just can't keep up with all the missing players. An expected defeat. City will probably win the league because of that, would've been fun to win it.

The fecking cheek of Brailsford to be angry at anyone when he should've been sent off half an hour ago.

Disappointing result and performance, but understandable given the age of the team. I guess City and Liverpool will end up ahead of us again while we focus, rightly, on youth development and quickly promoting players to the next level.

OK first half but very poor second. Derby had a lot of players that looked stronger and quicker than ours, and were presumably older, and became more physical and dominant as the game went on.

None of the newcomers really stood out for us - Mainoo looked technically decent and a handful at times. They all seemed OK, and will improve with experience - just too many thrown it at once wasn't helpful to them today.

fair result 3-1 Derby, we played decent football until we faded when they went 2-1 up

We've had some batterings with similarly youthful sides in the past so good to see we kept in the game well enough

Don't think the lads should be too hard on themselves. At the end of the day they lost to a few set pieces against a team who were much older and clearly more physically well-developed. Games like this are a great learning experience.

Willy, Iqbal, Hurado, Mejia, Hansen, Forson, Pye - it looks like we miss about a half of a squad right now due to injuries and covid issues.

Think Jackson did well for an U15 playing up for the U18s. Him, McAllister and Ogunneye probably will be part of this squad next season.

Good to see Kilner out there after a horrible injury few years ago.

Well - to put things into perspective - of the 16 players involved yesterday - Savage, Hardley, Hughes (who was injured after 30 minutes) Guadagno and McNeill started the season in the U18-squad - all the others are U16-players

We could have played:
Vitek, Fernandes, Fish, Bennett, Jurado, Pye, Kambwala, Forson, Hansen Aaroen, Iqbal, Hannibal, Wellens, Svidersky, Hugill, Hoogewerf, Emeran, Mejia
