David Beckham and after that maybe one more year of Eric Cantona. After that just retire the shirt forever.

As a meme give it to someone funny. Like Tom Heaton. I'd like that.

You can even do a promotional video on twitter where the text goes "Next season's number 7" and add seven fire emojis because young. The video can start with a shot from behind of Heaton's two feet, solidly planted in the grass, with a Ronaldo-esque-fk-stance.

Then slowly panning up to the back of the shirt with number seven, but cut it before it reaches Heaton's name because suspense. While this is going on we hear a cacophony of sound bites from various commentator outbursts after great goals - of course none of them originating from anything Heaton-related.

In the end the light is turned on and we see Heaton in his Ronaldo-stance but about to take a goalkick for the Under 23s.
You want a meme? Give it to Greenwood. :wenger:

I think the next no.7 will need to be like Bryan Robson, a leader who can do things in a not quite good enough for top titles United.

Cantona and Ronaldo were the cherry on top for good squads and Beckham was just a really good player in his own right

It's clearly going to be Sancho since that was the plan before Cavani overstayed his welcome and Ronaldo came back.

Sancho will probably get 7 and hopefully Antony will get 11.

If Murtough can't get Antony over the line this window, the 11 should be kept on ice for a year.

110% that Sancho is our next nr 7 - he is the closest to a superstar that we have after Ronaldo right now. Varane is a huge name as well, but nr 7 will not go to a defender that might play for us 2 or max 3 more seasons.

If dont buy a HUGE worldclass superstar, like Lewandowski (which of course wont happen).

We should build our team around players that doesnt think that they are more important or bigger then Manchester United!

I rather we archive it for the time being.

Fergie had the right idea by only giving it to the best player or the one with most potential(well aside from his last few years).

Wasn't there a story of beckham begging him for the number after Cantona left? I think he wanted to give it to Keane but he declined and that's how beckham ended up with it.

Don’t know how to break it to you….

The number 11 isn’t free. Neither will it be until it’s vacated.

Martial had his shirt No taken. Dont think its down to the player if the manager wants to give it to someone else.

That was Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There’s levels….

Antony isn’t taking his number and the club wouldn’t allow it.

Greenwoods currently got 11 - considering he's never going to play for us, they won't have any problem taking his number.

Can only see it being Sancho, he’s only one close to being world class at the moment.

What annoys me more is both of our first choice fullback numbers (2,3) being taken up by CB’s

Don't let the weight of the number detract from first performing on the field. Whether it is Sancho or someone else, let's use this season for them to get back to their best first.

It can be Brian Brobbey to break the 7 curse for all I care

Until he’s proven guilty, if he is. They are not going to remove his number from him. Would make zero sense and would be a stupid move by the club and fans to think so.

If we get someone like Antony there are various numbers he can use. I mean if it was Arjen Robben we was signing I get it.

Sancho obviously, its purpose built for a talented young player. "Yeah but he doesn't deserve it" neither did Maguire with the captaincy yet here we are the squad is a joke at least this is only a symbolic number.
Ronaldo wasn't a planned signing when Sancho was given the 25. But actually Cavani had the number 7 didn't he then, so I've lost my point now. Ok yeah maybe Sancho then.
