Unpopular opinion - Daniel James is not very good

One of our best players in the beginning of the season. You have to remember, someone coming up from the Championship to play in the first team for Utd is unheard of!

We are in such a pickle that he's being forced to play almost every game. Fergie never bedded players in like this and it just shows you that a dip in form leads to threads like this.

Isn't fair on the lad.

I find it funny how people on an internet forum are privy to the exact amounts of transfer fees. No-one on this forum knows if it's £15m, £20m or anything in between. All we can go off is what the media tell us. Get off your high horses.
Ok. We'll just make fees up to suit agendas then shall we. Sounds legit.

Badly out of form. Needs to be benched for a few weeks. Could be doing with strengthening up so he isn’t flung around like a child.

He’s dropping into the Lingard, Pereira pool of players that just don’t seem good enough sadly.

Needs to come out of the team he’s all over the place. His pace is pointless he never looks to run behind anymore either.

I think he could be a decent squad player and that’s why we bought him, shouldn’t be starting week in week out.

He’s a speed merchant. Kick & rush and not much mote. His technical ability is incredibly low for a Manchester United starter. Should probably be on loan or used as an impact player.

For a winger, he doesn't really do anything. Hardly ever takes a player on.

He is not out of form, it's his level. Since the purple patch he had at the start of the season he is completely useless for the last 4 months.

He's been woeful for quite some time. Offers next to nothing.

He is not using his pace at all. I get that he has his limitations on the ball and with passing, but the guy isnt even trying

Always felt he was a good squad player rather than a starter. His performances over the last 3 months are concerning. He needs to at least show enough quality of a squad player.

He was never supposed to have been a player we rely on. His strength is his pace and should be used as a sub that comes in late to stretch tired defenses.

It's partly unfair on him that he's being put in at the deep end.

He played well for 5 games & has played badly for 20+, maybe this isn’t bad form, maybe this is his level? Average players have purple patches, look at Lingard in December 2017.

That's the worrying bit. He isn't even doing what you'd expect from your typical basic kick and run merchants.

That or he's not being used correctly.

It's odd how AWB and James threads are trending at how shite they've been, particularly today where they're clearly told to barely move from their shape.

These players have feck loads of talent under shit coaching.

Don't disagree that our coaching is substandard. However at the same time a player has to show more than he is.

Have they been told to not cross and not look up too?

There is usually nobody to cross the ball to as we don't have anyone inside the box. Our attacking shape is all over the place and it comes from coaching, or should I say a complete lack of coaching.

Isn't fair? Then don't sign for United. You knowingly signed for a club with the most basic of basic league one managers. Take the money and risk your development. That's the game. I'd have more sympathy if he came here under a top level team of coaches that were then replaced.

This system and coaching is going to make very good players look ordinary and 1 in 3 prospects look poor. Nuno can take Traore and add dimensions to his game, yet AWB can still look totally clueless with what to do with the ball out wide. Just like any other sport, you get confidence from training and preparation. Golf, tennis, boxing, football, what have you...expecting natural talent to just show up on the pitch and triumph in professional sports is foolhardy.

He's not doing anything he was doing at the start of the season, don't even remember the last time he had a proper shot. Very low on confidence. People have their mixed feelings about him but I'd actually be half tempted to stick Chong on at half time, he had a decent run out against Tranmere.

This guy is in danger of becoming little more than a water carrier. Good effort and hustle, but looks diabolical when we’re in possession. Looks totally devoid of any true cutting edge or end product. Scary thing is, I’m not sure he’s got the capacity to ever be much better than he currently is.

He’s been really poor since his first few games where adrenaline took him to some good performances.
The worrying thing is he never just “ kicks and runs” like you see Traore do - another player with limited football ability. I don’t think I ever see him take players on, get to the byline, play a speculative cross. He also never makes sprints between the lines. Our only forward players that do that are Rashford and Greenwood.

Pretty sure some version of this is correct.

Not convinced by him. He is quick, not sure he offers much else.

He needs a rest. People being overly critical of him are not being fair. It is not his fault that the squad is so poorly managed that we need Daniel James to start every game.

He has not scored since September. But ok he needs a rest.

Not convinced by him technically.

He's as bad & detrimental to our attack as Lingard if not more. Any attack vanishes immediately when the ball is played to him or his way as he's physically too weak and can't protect the ball. He's basically a counter attack player and needs space behind the defence to use his pace which is his only trait really. In possession we're playig with 10 men when he plays.

Bizarre first half to play him as an inside left. He needs exactly what Traore got: intense coaching to work within his limitations and keep his game simple. He needs to stick to the right flank, beat his man with pace and just cross or pass the ball. That way he will create chances or win corners.

The worst player in the history of football at any level.

Oh, is this not what we're doing? Ludicrous hyperbole?

It's not an unpopular opinion with me, Sir Alex got them wrong at times and this kid is one of the most limited players I've ever seen join the club. Kick and rush football isn't suited to the top of the Premier league.

Feel bad for him, the fact he’s being started over and over is embarrassing for a club that is supposedly so big. He’s out of his depth like so many others.

Genuinely think he’s a right back at best. He’s a very vertical player with high speed and energy. Don’t see the quality to be part of a front 3 at this level. Overlapping and crossing is about it from what I see.

He's not shit, he's just a fairyl average squad player that was purchased for the type of money that gets you fairly average squad players.

The real issue here is the fact that Ole sees him as a starting 11 player and continues to do so. But then, Ole has never had the best eye for a player has he? Does Cardiff City ring a bell with anyone? The bloke's recruitment is very poor when you drill down into it. His other two summer signings were complete no-brainers, obvious signings that any manager would have targeted.

He’s not a right back.

Just because Valencia and Young did it doesn’t mean everyone can. Valencia was a brick and hard to muscle off the ball. This guy would get bullied non stop in that position. It would be like when we played Carrick or Fletcher as CB.
