Sancho's first touch was poor

That first touch.. The ball wasn't even coming at him with pace. Abysmal stuff
And due to that first touch or lack there of, AWB finds it difficult to play intricate passes in tight spaces. Basically he needs space to run into or else he’s fecking useless.

I've been saying this for some time now; AWB is often times caught out of position and offers next to nothing going forward. He is simply a very good tackler of the ball. That's it. Everything is else is average or below average for what a United Fullback should provide.

A red card in isolation's fine. A red card that's completely due to an issue that's been pointed out time and time again (before he even signed in fact) is slightly more annoying.

People in this thread pretending like the red card is the only time AWB has been shite this season. He deserves a lot of criticism for how his season has gone so far. A United full back needs to offer a hell of a lot more than just tackling.

In short, not good enough for us.

I`ve said it so many times. We never should have bought Sancho. The money should have been used on a good CM and a RB. Bisakka is a major liability and our midfield is shit. We have enough quality on the wings for the season.

Been saying the same too.

How was he ever considered a winger in a PL academy when he looks like he's afraid of the ball?

Exactly. The red card isn't the main issue for me. Shit can happen. However the other issue is more concerning

You can tell the difference between an occasionally recurring incident and a frequently recurring one, can't you? You mean to tell me you believe that Pogba and AWB have the same quality of first touch?
Pogba usually makes that challenge when it runs away from him. It happens.

Red cards can happen to literally anyone. His overall quality is what makes him a bigger question mark than a daft tackle tonight. He's got a lot of glaring weaknesses.

I don't rate him but it's too easy to pin all the blame on him. He's doesn't usually make bad tackles like that and the reaction from the team in going down to down was terrible.

Well, I would say most of the blame probably is on him in this instance. We don't lose that game if he doesn't do that.

It doesn't mean we make sweeping judgements on him as a player but let's call a spade a spade, if you get sent off in the first half at this level, even if it's not against a CL giant you are in trouble.

He's a very large part of why we lost tonight. We can analyse the mistakes after that in terms of approach and further individual mistakes but still..

Yeah you're right. If there isn't a red card I think we win comfortably. Don't think it excuses the performance thereafter though.

I’d have Dalot ahead of him every game. He’s a £50m gamble which has turned out shit. I’ve been saying this since last season. Put him on the bench (when not suspended) and let Dalot play week in week out!

You cannot have top player in every goddamned position. We are not City or Chelsea with oil money. It never happens. Gary Neville wasn't a great right back, as well, far from the best, but United was winning everything with him.

AWB got a red card, can happen to anybody, and he is suddenly a villain. Feck that. What we need is a proper DFM, not a RB. When we were 10 it became even more important to have a proper DFM. Also, starting Lindelof (who cost us first of their goals) and bringing in Lingard (who added nothing to attack and cost us ridiculous second goal) were the worst decisions that really cost us the points. This is Young Boys FFS, we could have won with 10 players.

I mean he did cost £50 million. I’m not sure money is an excuse for right back being an issue.

And most importantly, he still has the same weaknesses as he had when he signed over two years ago. That’s what annoys me about him. You’d think that he’d be able to improve at least one aspect of his game in over two years at one of the biggest clubs in the world, yet he’s the exact same player he was two years ago with the same weaknesses he had back then.

So he’s got to come on and take off like a rocket. Give the lad a chance, 10 games to prove himself!
AWB is better than him by streaks. I kept tabs on his loan move he isn't what you think.

Neither is Trippier, only RB that could do it is Max Aarons but he's too small for me.

Ronaldo cost us games against City getting sent off in his first spell. Neville, Keane, Rio. United has been a club that always gives youth a chance, how do youth learn? Make mistakes and grow I'm not going to say a 22 year old RB is rubbish when he has produced some world class performances against Mane, Sterling Mbappe and many more. He has a skillset many want to ignore because they have limited understanding why Ole goes with him instead.

Pogba has made a similar mistake with his touch vs Wolves, he didn't get booked, today AWB did get booked feck it sucks but its football. Our fanbase frustrates me sometimes.

He's a B-rank right back, nowhere near Hakimi, Trent, James, Pereira, Walker. He isn't a bright player at all, but he's reasonably solid in some aspects. Long-term he needs to be upgraded upon, In 2-3 years time. Laird has far more potential than he does I'd say for starters.

He was playing okay actually, was getting forward. Even got a cross into the box. You can tell that he was drilled to overlap with Sancho and back him up. Unfortunately, a rush of blood to the head after his touch let him down. It can happen. Pogba got away with a very similar challenge against Wolves, when his touch let him down. And nobody is calling him Championship standard.

Find the footage of AWB playing for Palace against City. He was tearing them apart. Had Sterling in his pocket. He was immense. Head and shoulders the best player on the pitch.

Yes, the red card did cost us the game in the end. But only because we overly adapted the team to a more defensive one, and gave up any type of formation or gameplan. We capitulated the win through fear of conceding, when we should have just sat deep with the same formation, and hit them on the break. It was like they were planning to give Dalot some game time, but in this situation with 10 men, we needed Varane. He only realised this at half time, so hooked VDB and in the process handing over the middle of the pitch to YB's. Sancho was probably the right person to take off, but it should have been for Varane at CB with Lindelof at RB.

Fred and Pogba in a 2 is a disaster. They were completely overun.

Dalot was much better than AWB has been all season, and Dalot didn't even really do anything.

Wan Bissaka has a horrible first touch, he can't cross, gets caught out defensively seemingly all the time and most worryingly he isn't improving in any of those areas. Time for Dalot.

Lacks any skill, flair, creativity. Just a really boring player with many flaws on both ends and just the one redeeming quality. Funny thing its exactly what was written on the tin. Don't know why we thought it would turn out any different.

Can’t plays at this level, even at leeds, would be benched by ayling, a far better player at 360°

he has no knowledge of the game, no marking abilities, first touch and passing at sunday league level

He can make big bloopers in every moment, you don’t know exactly when, but you know it will happen for sure at some point

£50m down the drain. Another £40m on Van de Beek and £30m on players that aren't ready in Amad and Pellestri and suddenly the only thing Ole gets credit for in bringing in the players doesn't look as good.

Same goal involvements last season in the PL as Shaw...

Shaw. Total PL apps: 192, Goals:2, Assists: 13
AWB. Total PL apps: 115, Goals:2, Assists: 11

People want to be right about him being wrong for us but today was a freak event, he's a top RB and needs intensive coaching (as all young players do).

Please don't compare him to Shaw. World's apart.

If you've been on here longer than a couple of seasons you'd remember the days people were clamouring for Shaw to be sold as well. Shaw is 26, AWB is 23, focus has to be on developing our players.

I think he's a great player for when we play teams with a flying winger and he needs to lock down the side and dominate 1v1s.

Outside of that, I think we need another RB.
