I know he is supposed to be our talisman and all and that the club has invested heavily in him BUT for some reason I just don't care any more about his fitness.

All season long it feels as if we have been playing without him on our books and a part of me is already accustomed to seeing us line up without Wayne Rooney as part of the playing personnel.

The only way United are going to win the league is if Wayne Rooney gets somewhere back to his best. So I for one want him fit and in form.

Wayne Rooney is to be sent to America for a week's conditioning work at Nike Town in Portland, Oregon.

Rooney has been suffering from an ankle injury, which has now fully recovered, but he is in need of fitness training to bring him back up to speed for action with United.

But after intense public focus on the Reds no.10 last month, where his future at United went from almost over to secured in an incredible few days that ended with him signing a five-year contract, it was felt that he could focus better in isolation.

"Wayne won't be involved [on Saturday]," United assistant manager Mike Phelan said. "What we're intending to do with Wayne is send him to Nike Town in America for a week's conditioning training.

"We've decided, in consultation with Wayne, our medical team, the manager and the coaching staff that that's that will be the best for Wayne.

"He'll go on Saturday [6 November] and return the following Saturday. If that goes according to plan then obviously he'll be available when he returns.

"We have the facilities here but we felt it might be in his interests and the club's to have a change of scenery for a while. He's had a lot of attention lately so we're going to give him the best opportunity that we possibly can for him to be in good shape when he returns.

"We want to create an environment for him that will give him the best opportunity to be fit in a short space of time. He needs the conditioning and he can go there without the attention he'd get around here."

Sending him on holiday to Dubai with a fecked ankle and no strapping seems a shitty after all.

Idiots.
It sounds like his ankle is pretty much healed. But United want him to get his overall fitness back to where it should be (and possibly clear his head as well).

Surely the best place to get his fitness up to scratch would be here? We only have some of the best fitness/training facilities in the world.

SAF knows best I suppose.

Doubt he'll play v Villa next week either then so hopefully we'll see the Rooney of last season v Wigan on the 20th. We usually stick 5 past them anyway so it's an ideal game for him methinks.

This special treatment will sure teach him a lesson. The purgatory of two warm weather holiday's in a matter of weeks is too much punishment for the boy

Seriously, if I was a member of the second-class citizens ie. the rest of our squad, I'd not be too chuffed to see a player who's shown such contempt and disrespect get rewarded with a pay hike, vacations, and overall special treatment.

He's going to Oregon, hardly the warmest place on earth.

Jesus Christ, are you serious? You actually think intensive rehab from an injury is some kind of treat? By all accounts it's the single most unpleasant part of being a professional footballer. Isolated from all your mates, working your bollocks off in the pool and gym, without even kicking a football. "Special treatment" ffs.

For the record, it's just under 8C in Oregan at the moment.

Fair enough, I'm no American climate expert, but it's beside the point. He's swanning off on another jolly while the rest of our well behaved squad are slumming it out in the middle of the British winter.

He should be recovering and training at Carrington like everybody else, the fact he's not isn't a great message to send out, as was giving him a record pay deal after all the fuss he kicked up.

Nani is injured by all accounts, why not send him off to Dubai or the US? In fact why not send all our injured player's away on vacation, at least then there wouldn't be any special treatment going on.

Wayne must think life is all dandy and hunky-dory, well in the real world that's a million miles away from being the case. He should be brought back down to earth not sent on another expensive, 5 star retreat.

Sounds like the club is calling the shots on this one, I think it's a special case.

I doubt they'd send a player on hours of flights just for "conditioning" work that they know full well could be done in this country. I'd say it's more about the "rehab".

I don't doubt that is the case. The point is that everyone else completes their rehab and recovery at Carrington, except a special case like Owen Hargreaves, who is as close to being retired without it being official, for example.

Wayne Rooney from what I can see doesn't qualify as a special case in a medical sense. He's had an injury but it's not required surgery or specialist examination. The problem has been diagnosed and he should complete his rehab at United like every other player does IMO.

You've also got to wonder if Fergie's still a bit pissed off at him? Can't be much fun training on your tod on the far side of the Atlantic. I'm sure Rooney would much rather do his rehab at Carrington.

More likely some specialist equipment/expertise they've got over there. He's been knackering his ankles with worrying frequency. They probably want to make absolutely sure they get everything spot on this time.

He's been on holiday since the World Cup started!

He's probably shitting himself wondering what sort of reception is awaiting him, when he trots out again. :nervous:

His ankle hasnt been right since Bayern, like someone said above it makes sense not to rush him back again.

If we rushed him back and he picked up another injury, people would only moan about that too.

I'm getting sick and tired of all this anti-Rooney bullshit that is constantly being spouted by Manchester united fans.

He's our player and he isn't going anywhere so for fecks sake get over it.

He's our best player and we are certainly better with him than without him.

He's only our player because the Scouse cnut held the club to ransom for more money. :houllier:

If he ever kisses the badge again, I think I'll puke.

Well for some of us respecting the club, the manager and the supporters comes before bending over backwards for our "best" player, and some of us have principles that dont blow and wave in the wind depending on if he's staying or going. I will support what he does on the pitch, but will forever and a day think he is a shitty Immoral self obsessed cnut who cares about himself and no one else.

Dig up stupid!
could be the clubs protecting him from the media over here, could be that they're isolating him as punishment, could be that they feel the team in Oregan will do a better job, could be many other, and probably less complicated, reasons for it but we're not missing him on the pitch anyway so i'm really not that bothered.

The whole contract saga has removed a lot of the fans obessesion with him being fundamental to our success purely by turning many of them against him! When he does come back he needs to be at his very best to win many of the fans back over, whenever that may be

Different ankle this time actually. Might be looking into analysing his stride-pattern, footwear or trying to see if there's any other way of minimising ankle sprains in the future.

To be brutally honest, I reckon they should just get him to cut down on the pies and lose a few kilos!
