US Men's National Team Discussion

Pulisic gets a 1/10.
Poch reverts to late stage Spurs form
Turner showing why he is nailed to Palaces bench
CONCACAF doing CONCACAF things by playing on a field that in 90% the size of a regulation WC pitch.
Just a horrible, uninspired, insipid performance.

Just such a concacaf match. Tiny ass field, early gametime with no usa fans because of work and Mexico fans buying the double header tickets, bunker football by one, shit reffing, and of course a random ass MLS player making you laugh

All that is true, but it was an insipid performance by almost the entire team and I still have no idea how Reyna/Luna did not see the field. Panama was playing a 5-4-1 with 2 dm’s. On a field that small you can’t really play wide, so you need players who can operate in tight spaces. The is not Tessmann or McGlynn, or even Weston. Just an absolute disasterclass by Poch.

Yeah not a good match by poch. The subs just weren't good choices.

Panama's Cecilio Waterman celebration calling Thierry Henry "Eres mi ídolo" and having all Panama team hugging him is priceless. Moments like this are what makes football so special.

Aye, celebrating your big moment with a notorious cheat.

Heartwarming stuff, like Saudi Arabia's newcastle winning their first trophy.

As an American who hates Trump all I have to say is GOOD!

Harsh on the millions of Americans who know, and act accordingly on the fact he's a scumbag.

cna we not keep politics out of it?

Canada manager sent off, figure we'll hear something on this in the match report but my guess is he said something extremely disparaging towards a female ref. He was pissed about the apparent no penalty call but live action and replay it was an obvious dive.

Brian “the new Wondiwski” White just had his Wondelowski moment. I hate this team, a bunch of no try prima Donna’s.

that must be the same time a game has taken place between a nation and a state of said nation? ;)

I honestly don’t think he’s taking it seriously.
The only thing I can think of is that he thinks since we are already qualified as a host nation he is just gonna use every single moment to test players out.

At least that's what I'm telling myself to feel better ha. That and missing dest, Robinson, and balo are obvious huge pieces that would've made it much different

Canada is just better than USA.
At this stage that is probably a fair statement. US was missing its 2 of its top 3 players in Robinson and Dest, but Canada lost Davies early on, so that is kind of a wash.

Can we all agree though that Marsch is a giant tool?

Plus we were missing our top 2 striker options as well with balogun and prob pepi.

I don't think Pochettino will be US manager when the WC starts.
I mean he has been here like 6 months so not like he's has a whole lot of time. By the time he could really be in trouble it would be so close to world cup that it would be almost insane to try and bring someone new in

Meh, sure. But it's not like either striker today was suffering from an excess of chances.

In any case, I have no idea what Poch is playing at. He just does not seem terribly engaged with managing the team. He is living in Europe, not the US (ok, I guess) but he is still not attending matches as far as I can tell.

I am also worried about our player pool as it is becoming more and more MLS heavy with guys who lack good (let alone elite) athleticism. Canada absolutely owned the US last night when it came to pace and athleticism, and it was a big problem. Like, why was Banks not called in? He is getting decent minutes at Augsburg. Add that to the ever present bus full of injuries (Robinson, Dest, Wright, Paredes, Tillman, Balo, Peip, etc.......are our guys made of glass????)

My other big concern with Poch was always if he would have the interest or drive to go after the dual nationals the way GGG and previous, non Bruce Arena, coaches did. Since he likely sees this as a short term gig, I am doubtful he is going to do the hard work of keeping the player pool improving and fresh. I have a real bad feeling its going to be the "Main European Guys" and then the rest of the roster being MLS filler.

he's not...he stated that his intent was to see the US thru the world cup and then go back to coaching at club level in europe
those things do not need to be mutually exclusive. You can absolutely take a short term role and take it seriously.

yeah i havent been super impressed with poch, and can def see the idea that he isnt exactly pouring his heart into this job. I def think he views this as a short term stint, which could be fine if he crushes it. If he does crush it then next manager could have an easier time recruiting, but a dangerous game if we continue to struggle. The atmosphere will be much different for our world cup games, so hopefully that alone can push things further.

100% but as a foreign manager on a completely different continent, i don't think this is his sole focus but not questioning his commitment
