Newspapers are claiming we aren't interested because £35m is too much... of course it might be rubbish but if true: who do the club think they can get who is better? And surely everyone knows that £35m isn't that much any more when it comes to transfers (whether you think it's a lot of money generally is irrelevant). I mean we paid £50m for Fred...

There's 1 article from the Mirror and it says we decided against it when we decided Pogba was staying, not that we think it's too much. Not exactly 'newspapers claiming'.

I wouldn't believe everything the tabloids say, I'd be amazed if you pulled out of the deal over price, more likely Utd preferred another player if they were in for him at all

Is he any good? Seems like people want new players every day. I remembered the Caf wanted the club to sign Mario Lemina from Soton when he was first linked. Was he even able to improve the squad? He’ll be classified a deadwood by the same time next year if he isn’t

Don't waste your time and nerves on it. He is very bright and witty boy who just before Ajax qualified to this season CL, said that Real Madrid should leave him alone as he isn't going to consider there offer before next summer. And it was a direct quote from him, not some tabloid made - up story.
So doesn't matter what you read now, he isn't going to go anywhere from Ajax before next summer at least. And by then his price might have doubled from now and he has a wide range to choose from.

He would have been a good signing for that figure, yes — would have been a good signing for even £50 million. Shouldn't be compared with Lemina, who has always underperformed despite being quite talented. Van de Beek is not the most exquisite passer from midfield, can't really dictate games yet, isn't the most athletic player, but...
He seems to be quite advanced in the way he interprets the game (like Thomas Müller, who wouldn't have made it at the top level without that quality).
A tireless worker on the pitch and reportedly a wise-head at Ajax — so he could develop into a leader at United.
Has a refined nose for goal from midfield (20 in just over a year) and frequently makes runs from the deep, which is a characteristic we sometimes lack.
Positionally versatile as a point forward or all-round central midfielder, and balances Ajax's system — e.g. last season De Jong would drop into the left half of defense to form a back-3 with Blind and De Ligt, while van de Beek and Schöne would hold fort in midfield. This term they often deploy a similar scheme depending on phase of the game, and van de Beek is crucial in 4-3-3 to 3-4-3 (or vice versa) transitions...

Did really well in Ajax's big games last season: scored vs. Juventus and Tottenham, and was on of the best players on the pitch vs. Madrid as a phantom second striker (setting the stage for Tadić to produce one of the best Champions League performances in recent memory).
The current United team in short on players with his qualities, IMO, so he could have been an astute signing — though conversely, he could have found himself on the sidelines like Blind because the way we structure ourselves might not have suited his skill set, especially if there was positional overlap between him and Pogba.
Not a big fans of this guy. I would rather signing Bruno due to we need playmaker & creativity in the team. However, if the one who said Bruno isn't the right signing is the same person then he needs to be punch right in the stomach. And if he's the same person as the one who recommended Fred & cost us 50m then he should be sacked asap. We could be in serious mess if we keep this person.
Been seeing this about for a few days. It’s obviously rubbish. If we wanted VDB, we would have paid £35m for him. We only wanted Brits, and Ajax were asking for more than that according to all reports, reports that never mentioned us and continuously linked VDB with Madrid.
The forum is full of whoppers at the moment. The whole 'Rashy' and we only buy English players narrative is ridiculous too. I genuinely wish the boring cnuts would leave the club and close the door behind them. Plenty of space for them at the Etihad.
