Vanja Milinković-Savić

They mature early in Serbia.

Was my first thought as well.

Obviously from my posts I don't have a clue about him, but I love an idea of a big, bit mad and confident keeper. Probably still Schmeichel effect after all these years.

I don’t think we’ve given up on Onana yet but also don’t trust him to be undisputed number one. This is the type of signing I can see us making us he would be competition rather than a definite starter/backup.

He's having a great season, but it's a bit weird that his stats around dealing with crosses are bang average given that he's an NBA-sized keeper.

Hopefully he's not as bad as Donnarumma for being massive but flapping horribly at aerial balls.

We really should have. He's a mature keeper that's gotten two seasons to prove himself and utterly failed.

According to FBREF he's at the 57 percentile in terms of crosses. That puts him ahead of Alisson (17), Pickford (23), Henderson (29), Ederson (33), Mamardashvili (45) and Onana (48)

Well yeah, we know Onana is very average in those situations. It's a bit of a question mark that a keeper half a foot taller is only marginally better.

Alisson 17? Seriously?

Who's in the top percentile for crosses then? Jesus?

Muric at Ipswich. 15.3% of crosses 99 percentile

Alison is just 4.6% of crosses. But if you have VVD in front of you he'll take care of most of the crosses

I'm all for a giant bastard at keeper but if anything this guy looks .. too big? I guess Agile and fleet footed aren't words that come to mind to describe the guy.

I feel like INEOS bargain shopping is leading us to strange places. Why can't we just sign some normal players? Surely it can't be that hard to find a Vicario?

Anyway maybe I'm way off base here, looking forward to someone who is actually well informed commenting here.

He's bang average and not even a starter for Serbian national team. We need to buy a better goalkeeper.

I remember when he was greeted by the boss. Initial thought was,” feck he is tall for a young guy!!”

Good gk. Very tall, dominant on crosses and a penalties specialist. But Joan García is better (and also Bulka if you want a giant keeper, he plays for Nizza, so could be easy to buy him).
Agreed, Garcia looks excellent and the buyout is supposedly very low. Perhaps he doesn't want to join? There were rumours a couple of weeks back.

I like Bulka a lot and believe he countd as homegrown having come through Chelseas academy. We surely know all about him given the links so he must have been / is being considered. I'm not sure what the rule is with us signing players from Nice now..

Savic looks solid though, if not world class. Played very well last year and again won't cost much, you'd expect would be interested in the move etc. Could be a sensible budget upgrade in a summer where we need to work smart.

Its evident that Amorim doesn't rate our GKs and for good reason I might say. Which really makes me wonder. As you say Garcia has a 23m buyout. which would probably be covered if Onana is sold to Saudi. If sold Bayindir will fetch the 4m something we paid for which means that if we sell both GKs and we bring Garcia in then we'll probably end up with a marginal profit.

The problem with Garcia is that this is his first full season at La Liga level. Vanja on the other hand has a 17m minimum fee clause which I am pretty confident that Torino will be flexible upon. Torino do not offer great salaries and Vanja was initially brought in to be a no 2. If he comes to United with a small increase over his salary than he could easily fit in the second choice GK bracket. Could it be the case that we're aiming to have 2 decent quality GKs in? Vanja could be the first choice GK up until Garcia settles down and then switch to second choice GK, Romero style.

We simply cant afford another banter season and after Onana 'experience' I wouldn't be surprised if the club had decided not to leave it to chance

He reminds me of Haaland.

Looks like an absolute giant that can do things of his position very well.

However his reaction time can seem quite slow when observing his highlights for Torino.

Joan Garcia looks much more fluid as a goalkeeper And better on his feet.

However, there's an element of something in Milinkovic Savic that I haven't seen in a long time. Almost kind of that scary defensive tank wall like Cech at Chelsea.

Considering some of Milinkovic Savic's weaknesses it seems like it can be a gamble, but a gamble that could really settle in to the PL and be an absolute arsehole to play against.

Nothing against Joan Garcia because he is still young but gives me that Kepa or Raya type fluid keeper than someone like Allison, Donnuruma, Ter Stegen, Neurer, Oblak etc, someone that looks like they make the goalposts smaller just from their physique alone.

Even though he has more experience MS fbref is significantly better than Joan Garcia & on a low transfer fee I think I'd take that gamble.

Yeah he would be my top target too, however feels like we aren't looking for a starter doesn't it
why though? We should sign someone who can replace Onana short term. Garcia would also only cost 20m or something

Seen numerous people saying he's not great in the air which at 6'8 is alarming.

I'm all for replacing Onana, but it needs to be done properly. This just screams penny pinching. Like you've mentioned, there are better keepers out there for slightly more money.

We do need a commanding keeper and I don't think Onana or Bayindir have covered themselves in glory, we need a top player in every position, hopefully he is not a stop gap

Don't know anything about him (apart from remembering his name from 10 years ago being here) and I doubt many on here have seen much of Torino. I'd assume this is for a backup role just based on him not being a starter for Serbia. But then again, you never know with goalkeepers, it's hard to judge them. Sometimes they just click at a random club. The most important part of a keeper is consistency, dominating their penalty area, etc. If he can be a good shot stopper, dominate high balls and not make mistakes like Onana regularly does, then suddenly he'd make a massive difference. But that's what separates the best from the rest. Just mean it can appear from unexpected players at random moments in their careers. Van der Sar was at Fulham for a few years for whatever reason, Emi Martinez came to life at Villa... I'd be excited to replace Onana regardless as he's the ultimate keeper who obviously has talent but is forever going to be ridiculously inconsistent, and the other point being that I'm skeptical that we'll actually replace him this summer.

Well the piece from Fabrizio says he has been added to the shortlist and we have made initial contact regarding a possible move. Shortlist implies he is one of a number of names and no indication if he is top of the list or bottom. I am all for exploring the market and kicking the tires on potential replacements for the GK position and it would be good planning on our part to look at a number of options so that we can find the best fit in terms of budget and skillset. Vanja would not be my first choice but he is certainly better than any of the current options we have.

Approximately the same height as the Predator, a Space Marine or Hulk Hogan, any of which would give me pause for thought if they were running at me.

Bułka looks a much better option if we are going the budget route. VMS looks pretty awkward at times in his movements and with the ball at his feet to put it nicely.

Few observations there:
- he’s a giant
- comes off his line well to block angles
- seems very decent on penalty kicks
- did seem to parry some saves back out into the danger zone

Now the million dollar question: how’s his distribution with his feet and collecting crosses?
Yeah watching Onana parrying it back into a danger zone is something I've gotten fed up over last 2 seasons..that video doesn't look much better.

Must admit that the first thing that sprang to mind watching the Joan Garcia compilations was that he consistently parried shots to the side rather than straight back out in front of him. I know it is wrong, but after 2 years of Onana that was enough to sell me on him.

He's 28 years old and the biggest club he's played for is Torino and the Italian league is very different from the Premier League. Surely we can set our heights a bit higher than this?

Especially when there are good options out there like Joan Garcia with a £25m release cause and for another £10-£20m we could get promising young keepers such as Chevalier or Verbruggen or Lammens?

Yeah, really not impressed with his parrying technique here.
Came for the YT Montage, Hoping for an Onanana Upgrade, left underwhelmed.

While clearly he is an utter mutant, and should be in the next X Men Movie, I'd love to see a keeper who Is catching the ball from shots and crosses. Agree not impressed with his parrying. If he is at best as good as Onana with his kicking and distribution, then stick with Onanana and get the right keeper when he comes along.
