Flicked the fingers of a hand which was higher than his head. You couldn’t ask for a more obvious “unnatural position” penalty. He blocked a goalbound header as well. VAR asleep at the wheel.

Another bizarre VAR cock up was when Cunha was tripped by a knee in the back of his thigh, as he was running into the box, in the second half. Much more obvious penalty than the first one.

Came to talk about the second one.

You can see the knee hit the back of his leg making him buckle, honestly think we get that if we didn’t get one before.

The fact that the one before was probably taken into account shows how unfit for purpose VAR is. It gives the illusion of removing the human element but of course it does nothing of the sort.

Referee bottled the red card for the first penalty, it was as clear as day. Both the ref and VAR bottled the second penalty when Cunha (I think) was kneed in the back of the leg.

Didn’t have to wait long for the next absolutely inexplicable decision. Declan Rice just conceded the most obvious penalty in the history of penalties from the corner before James scored. VAR not interested.

Yeah that was inexcusable. It was as clear a penalty as you like for holding. Then he moves his arm towards the ball in case there was any doubt about the initial call.

There were actually 2 pens in the same instance! His wrestling + the handball. It's a ludicrous decision. Will be brushed away as Chelsea scored straight after, but very weird decision.

And on the next corner that they concede from, he is doing NFL blocking where he is not even looking at the ball and just pushing the player off the pitch. It is ridiculous what they are allowed to get away with.

This Rice penalty is one of the most egregious decisions VAR has taken.

1. Pulls Hato's shirt
2. Hugs him
3. Handball

Might as well dive and pretend Hato hit him and win a foul and a red card.

Not sure it's a penalty as incident starts outside of the box. Then red card: you'd say it's a correct decision if he's last defender. Was he? Will have to see it again but anyway it weren't 2 clear easy decisions and we'd be annoyed to extent if it went against us probably.

Don't know what people are moaning about, the two fouls cancel each other out.

Nope, cunha got goalside of his man and foul ended inside the area - which is where it matters, and the defender denied Cunha a goal scoring opportunity by making the foul which wasn’t playing the ball - and that’s the crucial point. There is no ambiguity over this at all today, I’m concerned there are so many people unsure about it being ‘soft’ and how we would be annoyed - if it happened to us we shouldnt be annoyed as those are the actual rules and credit for a change that the ref and VAR (eventually) got it correct - unlike Mbeumbo against Brentford incident.

Aye was Cunha, Alan Smith on coms said he lost his balance and it was a bit clumsy looking but there did seem to be a knee into the back of him.

It’s not about where it starts but where it ends. You also don’t have to be last defender. He’s denied a clear goal scoring opportunity. It defies belief that the ref needed VAR to tell him it was a red.

The ref getting it right and having a decent match would defy belief, his incompetence along with the rest is standard.

Truly beyond me how Rice both gets away with having both arms wrapped around a Chelsea player and the subsequent handball situation.

As for our match, no idea what went on for the handball situation where the Palace player had his hand over his head when he partially blocked Sesko’s header, nor when Cunha got a knee on the back of his thigh. fecking farcial that the referee had to be sent to the monitor to correctly determine that it was both a penalty and a red card for denying us an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

I’m sick of being gaslit by those on comms too. Alan smith blatantly ignoring that knee to the thigh on cunha as he says there’s not enough to go down.

I won’t defend Kavanagh because he’s one of the worst… he’s not just inconsistent, he’s weak. But… the VAR monitor call was only for the red, not the pen (think Carrick confirmed that in his post match interview).

The red card situation was one where he was always going to check with VAR, seeing as he has VAR to use. That’s just human nature. Why make a call like that in real time when he can reserve judgement and look at a slo mo replay?

As for the other two incidents, I’ve absolutely no problem with a referee missing either of them in real time. I have a huge issue with a technology that’s been foisted on us, at the expense of entertainment, yet is still apparently unable to pick up and correct obvious errors like these.
