VAR and Refereeing 2025/26 | General Discussion

Honestly, if you’re comparing the two incidents in the two games, you’re just flat out lying to yourself

It’s been explained a million times why the Trossard ‘foul’ wasn’t a foul. We even saw tonight in the Liverpool defeat that those aren’t given. There IS consistency there.

Now, it was clear at the time Bernardo got away with it and saved a point for his team in the process— a point which would have meant Arsenal needed only four points from there two remaining games to secure the league. That happened before the Arsenal V West Ham game. Were you outraged then? Where was/is the outrage in this thread about City being given a life line in what was by far the most blatant error we’ll see in a long time?

The panels decision on the Bernardo blunder makes a complete farce of 90% of the outcry posts regarding the Arsenal game. But it will stay silent here

Ridiculous post, It's been explained how ? The laws of the game don't apply to Arsenal? How does it make them a farce?

Yeah Bernado did get away with it, in this incident, one of the very few this season City have got away with. He was also denied a clear pen a couple of weeks ago when player stood on his foot in the box and it wasn't even reviewed... Sure, City are financial cheats who look like they've beaten the league in court, but that's a different story.

Arsenal have been getting away with it all season on the pitch. Be it Gabriel not getting a red card or them being allowed to foul at corners all season.

Chelsea fan who is always defending Arsenal and praise Arsenal in 90% of the posts. Too ashamed to put Arsenal name in the support section?

Bernardo run around not facing the ball holding on to the attacker. Trossard run around not facing the ball holding on to the attacker but for longer. The only difference is one attacker fell down, the other didn’t.

It hasn’t been explained why it wasn’t given, the audio shows it should have been looked at by the ref and possibly given, they just didn’t show him it clearly.

And I’m constantly outraged at VAR, it’s ruining the game massively in many different ways, I haven’t got the time in my life to come on here and cry about it everytime it irritates me though.

Congratulations to the referee for actually understanding and applying the rules.

A deflection off the body into your arm which is leads to an accidental handball is not a handball offence unless you are the goalscorer

This is what I thought too

Gary Neville needs to be educated on the rules also

Neville is essentially saying he doesn’t think it should be allowed - not because of the rules, but because he thinks it’s unfair.

You get this often from ex footballers.

Having actually seen it come off of the thigh first - that makes the difference.

Hits his up onto his chest/arm then deflects onto a Forest player. Shouldn’t be disallowed. The only reason it should be is so many other daft handballs are disallowed so where is the consistency? Neville saying it’s as obvious as it gets is complete nonsense.

You would never ever want or get a penalty for that handball, thus the goal should not be ruled out. Simple really.

The absolute best part of that decision is hearing Neville (& to be fair the other commentator) demonstrate he does t actually understand the rules.

Handball law is in a strange place.

I get that it is accidental, but it leads to a goal, instinctively feel it shouldn't stand.

Everyone that says that refereeing panels, VAR committees or other things that you see here need to consist of ex-players should just shut the feck up, to be honest.

Somebody Tweet this to that Twat Neville.

Absolutely insufferable these days, I'd pay an extra £20 a month just to have the option to turn the whiny cnuts voice off.

Thats feels like the first wrong VAR decision going our way in at least a couple of years.

Have we seen a single replay of the foul on Bruno leading up to the 3-2?
Nope, classic Sky hyping up the handball thing and seemingly not knowing the rules, which thankfully the ref did.

Yet not a word at Bruno clearly fouled for their goal.

Fair enough, but applying that logic would also see accidental handballs at the other end leading to penalties. Which I think most people wouldn't like to see.
