I doubt Leicester want to be receiving any calls from us again for at least a year

With all the talk about a bid for Mandzukic (a player coming to the end of his career) I started to try and think of players of similar age and but who are Premiership proven. And it led me to this fella. Surely he'd be a better fit in terms of the pressing that Ole wants to do. He's definitely more of a goal scorer than Rashford so could fit that central striker role, with Martial and Rashford either side. I'm sure he has at least another 3 good years in him so why not slap in a bid for him, plug the Lukaku gap short term and continue to look for a younger, more long term player to slot into that role?
On pressing I'm not sure there is many forwards that do it better than Mandzukic to be honest.

In theory, I'd love to have him here as a short term fix. In reality, Leicester would never sell him on deadline day and even earlier in the window he would've been absurdly expensive.

Yeah it was only really a theoretical offering! I suppose I just mean I'm surprised that with all the links to strikers in the last month or so, his name wasn't at least mentioned.

Under a tree.
It's funny because when we were in for Lukaku, Mandzukic & Vardy were the players I thought we should get instead..

That ship has sailed, Vardy will probably cost more now then back then given how the market is.
Werner is who we should be looking at now, imo, given he is in his last year of his contract.

He will retire at Leicester for sure unless they don't want him anymore at some point.

It’s funny how his incident in the casino was so easily forgotten.
That and the performance "enhancement" stuff like the tobacco and extreme caffeine use.
I've always wondered if that stuff is what has been admitted to, what else is there on top

Best decision he ever made was not joining Arsenal.

Especially in the title winning team, 'big' teams had an 'its only Leicester' attitude and played a high line, he thrived/thrives in that space behind them.

Playing in a side where the opposition sits back, he'd be denied that space and he'd lose his primary weapon.

He'd have struggled at a 'bigger' club.
Yeah it seemed to take until about March for teams to think, hang on, this lot have a guy with a sprinter's pace, so maybe we shouldn't all cram up on the oppositions 18 yard box and leave him the whole pitch to zoom into

He's one of the most exciting counter-suited strikers I've seen. You just know he'll kill any opponent on the counter.

Bottled the move to Arsenal. He'll stay at Leicester until he's done now.

Unless other clubs plan to double his salary otherwise it is the best for him to stay. No need to adjust to new teammates, manager and playing style, and he will retire as a legend in Leicester. He made the right choice reject the move to arsenal.

Bottled it? He made a smart career move not like he was turning down a team going for trophies
I don't mean it as disrespect to Leicester but that was the time for him to move.

When Leicester were a purely counter attacking side (e.g. The season they won the league + the season after promotion) - 0.41 goals per game
Since Leicester's counter attacking football became less effective and they turned into a side looking to build around possession (every season since) - 0.49 goals per game

So since we have become less of an 'Unknown quantity' and now a side playing a possession based style, Vardy's goal return has actually increased.

Cannot be touched in this league outside of Kane/Aguero......
And i'd actually argue he would score more goals at more clubs in the PL than the above two because of his varied skillset.

if he was 25 instead of 32 we'd be getting bids well north of £100m for him

I’ll probably get ridiculed for this, but I’d have Vardy in my side ahead of Kane.

Massive fan of Vardy. Our lot could learn a lot from him.

Wouldn't have worked. Leicester are built to supply him in ways that suit him best so he'll score a feck load of goals for as long as his pace doesn't let him down.

Not me. I'm still a bit miffed that Southgate seemed to think he could fit Kane into the system England played at the World Cup. Should have gone with a 3-4-3 with Sterling, Vardy and Rashford as the front three against Croatia. And remember, England would probably have made the final if Kane had just squared it to Sterling here instead of shooting...

Who is they?
the secret organisation that go round chasing people who are mean to St. Harry of Kane, for he is God and passing the ball to a teammate that has a tap in when you can shoot into 5 defenders is what gutless wimps do

Or maybe Kane just made a mistake like all players do.

Leicester haven’t been a “counter attacking team” for over two seasons FFS. Against possession team Bournemouth we had 55% possession.

The notion his goals are all counters is laughable.

no, but that doesn't mean he has to leave just because Arsenal wanted him
At his age and the season he'd just had, that was generally his last chance to make a move to a 'big' club. Why do you think he didn't take it? Because the club in for him isn't a regular challenger for trophies?

Other than against the top 6, every other team pretty much plays with 10 behind the ball against us. The notion others seemingly open up against us is bizarre when you watch the games.

he takes the sort of shots you'd scream at a 14 year old not to take as they are so low in probability of scoring you are just wasting possession, but he's the England captain playing for a side half of fleet street report so no one is critical of him.

Put it this way if Rashford took all the shots Kane takes you'd want him dropped from United until he learns how to play as a team

because Arsenal were a terrible fit, had Klopp's Liverpool wanted him he would have gone I'd imagine

Do Liverpool fans want Salah dropped for taking many shots? Son is also a player constantly shooting.
