A shame we conceded, but overall, happy with his performance. Out-muscled a few times, but was really good on the ball and gave us good distribution from the back.
Agreed. If Iheanacho is outmuscling him I worry about him against the really strong players, but he played very well overall. Seems to have a good sense of positioning when we're defending deep, which makes sense as the Swedes basically only do that and he fit in well there.

His level of confidence is day and night difference from last season. Was great.

Thought he had a very promising game. Exudes a bit more calmness than the madman next to him.

How can anyone take nothing but positives out of that performance.....

Still not convinced he has the natural talent to play at Manchester United.

But that's the case and has been the case for many other players.

Mental fortitude will be very important now.

He is solid, just a bit lean. He reads the game and try to avoid the physical part.

Victor is getting there. More physical today but still need to get a bit more prescence. Eric was immense.. I can see them building on this and moulding into the partnership everyone of us was hoping for.

Had a few shaky moments, but sorted them well. We should give him and Bailly some time to mould together.

Thought he was good today, and let's not forget he had a really short preseason

Looked pretty good but still need some work on those headers. With Bailly having sky-high limit I think Victor could be a really solid partner, might just need a few more pounds of muscles. Position play was good, as usual.

I thought he was good. A ball playing center half. If he and Baily can stay fit we have a good combination. It's not like the old days when teams has a bulldozing center forward. Teams have more agile attackers now and we need more agile defenders

People underestimate what game time does for the confidence, but also gaining tactical experience. His only major consecutive game was in the world cup. Luke Shaw likewise, a few games will build momentum.

Doesn't get enough praise when he does play well. I thought he was just as good as Bailly for most of the game.

Improving. Hopefully he keeps it up. That was a long way from Huddersfield away last season!

Could turn into a good buy. What was he, 35m? Half a VVD

Heard he took a year or two before he adapted to Benfica, maybe he's a slow but steady learner.

Smalling has been at our club for nine seasons . Lindelof can 100% be a top CB. How good was Alderweireld at his age? He is fantastic on the ball, great positioning and calm. Perfect partner for Bailly. The only issue is his aerial ability. Which he needs to improve.

What do people mean by that? Fantastic on the ball?
What was fantastic about those run of the mill passes?

I’ve criticised him a lot but he looks so much better than early last season. Still feel there were moments he had to be so much stronger but it was encouraging overall.

For some reason i'm not sold on this guy yet. Looks to be pushed off the ball quite easily. Also quite poor in the air.

Rock solid tonight, another performance to build from. Fine partnership with Bailly. People need to stop saying 'ball playing CB'. All of our CB's can defend (well maybe not Rojo) and that is that, if they are decent on the ball it is nothing more than a bonus. He's a defender, he defended well. Hope he continues to defend well.

Much prefer him at the back to Smalling, because he actually knows how to play football. Always been a big supporter of Lindelof, and thought he finished last season strongly. Still developing, so could become very good. Hopefully people won’t turn on him after his first mistake.

Against big, direct teams, you’d have to draft Smalling in because both Bailly and Lindelof are suspect in the air, but otherwise it’s nice to see Jose have to actually use what he has rather than continually replace.

Do you expect our CB to play scholes-esque passes every game? He is great at playing the ball through midfield. But okay dont let that ruin your agenda against our second best CB.

Pick a partnership and let it grow.

Yesterday was perfectly fine and I see no reason to change him for the next 5-6 games.
