Maguire, Lindelof and AWB all poor for the second goal.

It's a pretty good cross taking Harry and Victor out of the game and catches AWB sleeping.

It's all on AWB. Maguire is well beyond his near post so Lindelof moves forward to cover the enormous space. So AWB needs to tuck in and mark the player. He does that, then inexplicably leaves him for what? What was AWB going to do?

There were plenty of times during the game when he was showing the type of front foot aggressive defending that many have wanted to see from him, then that second goal. AWB has to take blame as well, as great as he is one v one he has a tendency to knock off and ball watch a bit when runners are coming. That issue should stop any talk of him being converted to a CB.

Even if he sees AWB picking up De Jong, why isn't he being proactive and taking him off him!?

I swear sometimes it's as if he doesn't really enjoy defending
Yeah, he should be taking charge. Was happy to let someone else to do the defending, without even fecking communicating it!

That was an example of why so many people aren't convinced by Lindolof. He can look like such a classy defender but he has moments like that where he's just way too passive and he switches off. Was proper Sunday league defending on that goal. What was he actually doing? He wasn't marking the man or the space. Was basically pointless being there.
He even stepped back to allow the ball reaching the other properly .

How? How? How? What's a right back to do if he is behind him? He has to cover the space behind him. The other guy who cuts the line just drops it and lets the ball fall to De Jong' feet. The keeper should have read this as well.
This 100%. I have seen Romero and other keepers deal with those kinds of crosses. Defending 101, a CB had to be near the attacker and in place to cut out the threat. Bailly does that excellently, Lindelof loses his man time and again. Tinkering with the team and bad finishing has us out.

Shaw is but Maguire isn't.
He isn't Rio but next to a quick CB, he is going to be fine. We need to massively upgrade on AWB though. He gives nothing going forward and apart from 1v1, he is not great at defending either. What were we thinking spunking 50 mil on him.

Lindelof should never be first choice for a club like us. He is never going to be first choice for any of the other top clubs then why the feck have we persisted with him. Smalling is miles better defensively than him.

Now we have 4 weeks rest. We definitely need that, so that's a plus. A good window and we can make very good strides. This team has some really good quality, just need to fit in the final pieces to get it together.

Unforgivable defending. Never have and will be comfortbale with him in our defence.

The Iceman has melted on the big stage so many times it’s a wonder he’s not just a pool of slush at this point

He really doesn't like taking any authority right? Just let the ball pass and let someone else take care of it.

Such a poor player. Feck sacho, get in a decent CB and backup for Shaw.

I liked him but feck, disastrous defending in the second goal, then went on and insulted Bruno as well ? Feck off.

He did his usual turtle routine. Watch it again. He actively gets out of the way.
Not sure he would have reached it anyway but make a bloody attempt. He was at no risk of putting it in his own goal because he was outside his own post

We need to score. Defence is one of the best in the PL but we cannot win games if we miss som many chances like today.

Let's be honest here, his positioning was poor so he was nowhere near the cross, no need to make things up.

He absolutely did not "get out of the way" he wasn't fecking in the way in the first place.

It was a four pronged error. First Pogba lets His man go in midfield, then Williams doesn’t stop the cross, then Lindelof goes awol and then AWB doesn’t cover for his wayward defensive partner. Lindelof with the big error but most goals have more than one player culpable.

No club makes a title challenge with him being a big part of it.
But City can win the title with Ottamendi?

Anyway it was poor from him and poor from everyone in the back 4 but lets blame one player

He's not good enough, switches off far too much.

Glad the cameras caught Fernandes telling him, shows a player above his level is letting him know he's let his team down.

Lindelof is still okay but yes his partnership with Maguire means two average slow defender playing together.

AWB has convinced me that he isn't suited for us. He is good for underdog teams but when we have to take initiative, his non existent attacking play really limits us. We made a mistake with him and wasted 50m.

Wouldn't be upset to see him go, honestly think Smalling is an improvement over him and I don't even want Smalling as a starting CB.

Let's not blame the attack and forget embarrassing defending from this guy.

I just checked the replay of the goal and think you’re right. There was no chance he could have reached that ball.

He's not good enough, simple as that. He would not be playing for any top club if he leaves us and that says it all.

I can’t work him out to be honest after a good performance he goes and does that. We need a new CB though. We used to have quality defenders like Ronny Johnson and Berg who weren’t regulars, maybe Lindelof should fall into that category too.
