He had some great games for us since 2019. No need to go overboard with the criticism

What are you talking about?

How is saying he's not good enough and should have been sold years ago "going overboard" with criticism?

He's clearly not good enough and never has been. The odd good game in 6 years doesn't change that.

If I remember correctly he was a key part of the team that went closest under Ole. You just can't do that if you're as bad as people on here spout.

Key part of a team that won nothing and finished a distant 2nd once?

Well worth him being here 8 years then you're right.

The way he was brushed off and thrown to the ground by vardy on that chance de ligt bailed him out epitomises him. It's a, if you don't laugh you will cry, situation with him still being a united player

Pathetic player and always has been. The was he fumbled and then also left Heaven to deal with the attacker was prime Lindelof. Travesty that he is still at the club.

Can't recall anybody ever saying 'Lindelof was brilliant' in all his time here. He's just bang average or below average in every game. How has he been here for eight years?
There were two big games that I'll always remember fondly. Against Juventus in the CL in 18/19, and then in the last PL game of the 19/20 season where we were facing Leicester with the winner finishing in the top four and getting the final CL spot. He was great in both.

He has had the occasional other great game over the years, but those are the two that come to mind for me.

He was horrific in his first season and has been very poor these last two seasons. However I'd say that during the five seasons in between he was at a decent squad player level. Unfortunately he was being used as a starter for most of those, but if he'd been used just as a squad player (like he was in 22/23) he'd be worth a place in the team.

He's definitely stayed past his time though as, like I said, he's been terrible the last two seasons.

He’s captained his country, and got over 70 caps. There’s some ability in there, it’s just he’s not a winner, not determined, doesnt want to get dirty and fight for the ball.

Look at the block that De Ligt pulled off yesterday - sheer determination, and we see that sort of commitment from him every week. For Lindelof, that’s happened a couple of times in his career.

At any other club he would have been binned off years ago, and perhaps would have taken stock and improved - but he’s never had to at United. We’ve been happy to tolerate a completely passive CB.

IIRC we've been involved in 6-7 cup finals since his time here. 2 of which he started where we lost (Europa League 20-21 and FA Cup 22-23) and he was directly culpable for goals conceded in both of those games. He also was directly responsible aka 'was in the vicinity but did nothing to defend' both goals conceded in the 19/20 Europa League semi-final loss against Seville. The other 4 cup finals he didn't start or play, we won.

It's not a coincidence. He's shit.

We bought him in 2017.

It was clear by the summer of 2019 at the very latest that he wasn't good enough for us and should be sold.

The fact it's 2025 and he's still here is just astonishing. I know he's only playing because we're cursed and regularly have about 5 centre backs out injured at all times but still. How has he managed to eke out an 8 year Utd career? Mercifully it looks like we're down to the final couple of months.
I understand you all but don't think his United career has been that bad, really. Don't remember much from 17/18 and 18/19 seasons (I'd say he was decent in those but would perhaps be wrong) but in 2 full seasons under Ole Lindelof and Maguire developed a solid partnership and were functioning well in most of the games. 21/22 he was probably poor like everyone else and then a squad player ever since it feels.

Captain for Sweden, played for Benfica (arguably biggest club in Portugal) and then for United for 8 years. It's a very good career and I'd even say he's been decent for United when I look back. Not great, not good enough but decent and not a disaster.

What is odd is that Mourinho bought Lindelof. Victor is too passive and weak and PL football doesn't suit him and you'd think Mourinho of all people would know that.

On Lindelof lasting 8 years at United: it's not surprising. Jones was around all the way until 2023. I love Mata but he too left 2-3 years too late. There were few others as well.

Man Utd 0:0 Man City
You can see why Amorim likes him. Him and Yoro are our best CBs at passing vertically between the lines. Which is really important when you play a back three.

Maguire is good at pinging a crossfield pass and carrying the ball but rarely if ever hits an incisive pass along the ground. I haven’t seen De Ligt do it much either. His choice of pass is similar to Maguire’s.

Had couple of shaky moments but it was a decent cameo. Hopefully more of those to come before he departs.

I'd keep him for 1 season as a 5th-6th pick.

No. His contracts up, it'd be madness to extend.

Yoro, Mazraoui, Maguire, De Ligt, Yoro, Heaven, Shaw, Martinez.

We don't need another CB on the books. Lindelof and Evans contracts should expire and if we for some reason need a 9th CB then promote someone from the youth or stick Ugarte back there.

Yoro so good you named him twice

Lindelof has to go. If we get that stretched and Cas is still around then he might as well cover.

We have 2 Yoros!?

I'd have no issues assuming he drops onto a low wage and knows he'll barely play - seems a popular squad member and has made no bones about essentially being last choice CB. You never know with footballers, he's 30 and so clearly financially sorted forever, if he has kids in school, his family are settled he might just want to stay and get paid like £30k a week (chump change for a footballer but still insane money) and do his badges.

Depends on the Martinez prognosis. I don't think you can count Shaw due to his lack of availability, so if Martinez isn't progressing well that leaves only 5 on your list, for 3 positions. Not enough.

That would leave the question whether we can re-sign Lindelof as 5/6th choice for a reasonable salary or have to spend tens of millions on a replacement, and using that cash elsewhere might prove more effective.

He has never had the physical attributes to be a top defender in the PL but his style is well suited to a less intense style of play and his reputation in European football remains strong. I think he will have good options to join a club in Spain or Italy for example on a 2 or 3 year contract as a starter and we are obviously not offering him that so he will go.

He would be mad to sign an extension. He can join a non physical league and have a good couple of years. He can join on a free and get some joining bonus too.
All better than wasting his time here playing 5th choice.

Olympique Lyonnais 2:2 Man Utd
Absolute wet blanket of a defender. Did terribly vs Lacathreat for their equaliser.

They all struggled with Lyon's attack. Tolisso got through a couple of our players before luckily taking a weak shot straight into Onana. We let them take too many shots from dangerous areas and in the end it did cost us.

Newcastle 4:1 Man Utd
Weakest centre back in the history of the club, managing to get 275 appearances here is a disgrace.

Appreciate he’s playing as others are injured or being nursed back but I hope enough of them are fit now that he doesn’t play for the club again before he goes in the summer.

Pathetic. Cowardly. Scared. Weak. Slow. Passive ad nauseam. Feck him and all his fanboys over the past 8 years.

Cannot believe he still plays football games for this club. Everything wrong with the last 8 years.

Cancel his contract, pay him whatever we have to to leave. We should have forced him out years ago when all knew he wasn’t ever going to be good enough.

What's even the point of playing him? He's rubbish, and his contract is up.
