A player this bang average has managed to calve out an 8 year career at Manchester United

Sums everything up to be honest

8 fecking years you have to laugh

That moment when he, Yoro and Maz stood off the Newcastle player at the edge of our box in the first half before quickly realising that they should be closing him down just summed it up. Bruno’s despairing look afterward said it all.

Multiple mistakes costing goals in this one

First goal he drops off thinking Isak is making a run behind for some reason, when instead he had dropped deep. Tonali lets the ball run for Isak who is now free with loads of room from Lindelof. He has time to take a touch and then another one playing the ball into Tonali's run behind Yoro and Tonali finishes.

There was no reason for Lindelof to drop off and because he did that Isak had the time to control the ball and play in Tonali with ease

2nd goal was Dalot beaten too easily, Mazraoui letting the cross come in, Amass sliding in when if he stayed on his feet he might be able to block the cross coming back and when the ball is crossed in, both Yoro who is closest to the cross and Lindelof are both ball watching while Barnes is ready to react to the cross and turns it in

Third goal Mazraoui falls over and loses the ball. Lindelof doesnt shift his legs fast enough and Barnes just runs straight past him with the ball and smashes it home. At the very least Lindelof could have taken him down for a freekick. He ended the game without being booked so would have been fine

He couldnt do anything about the 4th goal. That one is just down to Bayindir

Remember when he came, shit then and still shit. This club, 8 years for this guy

I still don’t understand why he can’t jump?

Last season here without any doubt.

Probably one of the oddest signings Mourinho has ever made. A guy famous for signing strong quality centre backs.

You can't be serious brother.

First goal: This was possibly the worst of the lot. Lindelof starts this goal by playing an awful ball to Eriksen in our own half. When we recover and defend, Lindelof sees Isak, but he gets done by thinking Trippier is going for a cross, so drops back all the way into our own box. It gives Isak time to recover from a bad touch and find Tonali.

Second goal: There's only one option for Murphy, which is easy to defend if Lindelof had any awareness and wasn't jogging.

Third goal: Barnes runs past him. How he shapes his body and turns to defend here is pathetic. Doesn't even give himself a chance to foul.

That doesn't mean that any of our other plays covered themselves in glory for any of the goals (see Dalot, Yoro, and Amass for Newcastle's second goal), but once again he's one of the main culprits if not the main.
You are just looking at it with a lense of hatred.

The first goal Trippier wasnt closed down. Lindelof took a step back trying to anticipate the cross. In the end it was just a really good goal. You could mark out about 3 united players at fault more than him.
The second0 Dalot was done. Mazroui went to cover which forced Lindelof to move accross to cover front post. Amass should have got to the crosser and Ugarte should have covered the runner. Again 3 or 4 United players more at fault than him.
Third - Mazroui loses it. Lindelof had two runners at him. He was trying to stop the runner on the outside and keep an eye on Barnes. Again 2 or 3 United players at fault before him.

Now Im not saying Lindelof is world class but hanging and lynching him when others were at fault is a bit harsh

You haven't addressed what even led to Tripper getting the ball. It was Lindelof's grenade pass to Eriksen which ended up causing the turnover. It's comical that you're putting this goal down to Tripper not being pressed and it being a "really good goal". Lindelof knows where Isak, Barnes, and Dalot are because he has a look. There was no reason for him to drop back the way he did. If he wasn't an average defender, he would've been close to Isak after that poor first touch. He was the main culprit for this goal. I'm not even going to get into the other two goals because it's already been explained, plus in your own words "United players more at fault than him". Which contradicts your original post: "what did he do wrong?".

A player with that level of experience putting in this type of performance is shocking, but it's Lindelof. Just glad that this is his last season with us.

Makes me wonder really. After Mourinho was sacked, he was on punditry for a United game and criticised Lindelof's lack of ability in the air. Surely a scout or Mourinho would have seen that at Benfica?

Yeah that was bad. Although it has to be said that Lindelof ended up the closest defender to actually blocking the shot.

The first goal bothered me. Felt as though if he’d been braver and stuck his head in where Isak was about to kick the ball he would have easily won a free kick.

My theory was that Mourinho was very good at identifying centrebacks, defenders in general, but all the defenders he signed is essentially fecking awful at defending.

With Lindelof i just don't think he's ever had the instinct required. There are so many situations where he has the advantage but he ends up losing the duel. There are so many situations that Terry and Vidic would die for, the ones where you can get 100% of the ball and at the same time completely wipe out the opponent and make them fear going into 50-50's for the rest of the match as a minimum.

After this season ends, I will be so thankful that I will never have to watch this man play for my football club again.

How he got to stay for 8 seasons here is absolute insanity.

Noticed he was smiling and joking after the game too. The fact he’s been steeling a living for eight seasons just proves how negligent the owners have been.

Really baffles me how it was Mourinho who got him in. A guy known for having and training some of the best CBs in world football.

no idea how yoro looks to be trying to take control of the defence while lindelof (our veteran) looks timid, passive and lost

I look at Lindelof and how he plays, and he kills my soul. You have 30 better CBs in the premier league, every one of them 10 times more likeable than this guy for the simple reason of not being an absolute pussy. Can't dominate in the air, constantly ball watches and backs down, an absolute passenger and he has been like this since day one. 8 years later he still does this in a United shirt.

Lindelof doesnt need to anticipate a cross and he doesnt, because there isnt one. He's already in position to defend if a cross comes in, no attacker was goalside of him

He just brain farts and when he loses his head Lindelof reverts to his nature which is running away from the ball back towards his own goal rather than towards the ball or the player with the ball

Meanwhile what he doesnt anticipate is what should have been most obvious Tonali is a few yards away from Isak and both are in a pocket of space deeper than our CBs. So a pass into there could find either of their players. Its obviously what should be coming. The clever part is from Tonali realizing that and leaving the pass to Isak and making a run in behind. And that cleverness is what catches Yoro off guard

Surely one of the best things to come out of this season is the end of his time here. I don't care what possible technical skills he may have, he is the least committed, least brave defender I've ever seen. An absolute joke of a footballer.

He is 8 years at this club, almost a decade. Imagine that Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Man City etc. keep a player like Lindelof for almost a decade. I know that we sadly can't compare ourself with these clubs for the last 10+ years, but it shows how poor we managed contracts, especially in the Woodward era where we extended contracts for shit players just because of his "resale value" strategy had that failed massively.

Has never had anything that you want from a Premier League centre half. So glad we won't have to watch him for much longer, but yeah it's criminal that he's managed to spend almost his entire career here.

All the hate and yet he was a key part of the Ole team that finished 2nd. There were far worse performances yesterday but the hate is great in here and Lindy is chief whipping boy.

How dare we defy such greatness!
