Makes me wonder really. After Mourinho was sacked, he was on punditry for a United game and criticised Lindelof's lack of ability in the air. Surely a scout or Mourinho would have seen that at Benfica?
He and Bailly seemed a bizarre couple of centre back signings for someone like Jose.
Maybe it was a case of have these guys or no-one and most managers will always take thar.

All the hate and yet he was a key part of the Ole team that finished 2nd. There were far worse performances yesterday but the hate is great in here and Lindy is chief whipping boy.
Criticism is not hate

They both seemed like Jose picks though, rather than club targets.

Both really quite expensive given their lack of experience when we bought them.

I know we’d love to be 2nd place in the league now but that’s not really that impressive in the scheme of things.

If he played in the era when kits are washed for the next match he will not be washing his because he doesn't break a sweat.

He has been here for 8 years, same amount of years as Vidic.

Rewatching the Newcastle game again and just watched the Barnes goal for 3-1 again

I'm reminded that in his first seasons there were posters that claimed that Lindelof is quick. Well in that goal he looked like Laurent Blanc from his United days, slower than Maguire has ever been

His last run of decent form was in Erik's debut season when he had a longish spell partnering Varane, one of those random situations where two players just seemed to click and form a good partnership. In the two years since, he has not played much and has been sidelined repeatedly by muscle injuries, that has contributed to his not exactly elite athleticism declining to the point where he is physically incapable of meeting the demands of PL football.

He had one hardcore fanboy, who has conveniently disappeared as soon as his game time has dwindled the last of couple years. Then there were other sympathisers trying to gaslight people into thinking Lindelof was some underrated player held down by Maguire/McFred and had achieved greatness securing a 2nd league finish against all the odds. "He would play better in a more expansive team/higher line", "cultured player, who would do much better in other leagues", "a good passer on the ball", "best third choice centre back in the league", "he didn't make a mistake and therefore wasn't at fault for the goal conceded" rinse repeat.

He stepped in for Martinez and had a decent run of about 5-10 games. Guess how that ended? Letting the ball bounce and getting out jumped by Kevin fecking de Bruyne in the FA Cup Final in the first 10 seconds. He's started 2 Cup Finals for us IIRC, both of which we lost, not to mention the other Semi-Finals in the Europa League, where he had a hand (aka in the vicinity of but didn't do anything to affect) goals conceded in those games. He's been readily available for us because he simply doesn't compete, take responsibility or put his body on the line. Now that he's had some injuries, he's fallen off a cliff from the already low heights he was already on anyways.

I'd bet good money that Maguire would absolutely burn Lindelof in a foot race. I think Casemiro and Zirkzee both would too tbh

He better be nowhere near the pitch tonight.

He's the total opposite of fight to the death.

Barring some medical catastrophe I don't see him playing. His involvement at the weekend, like Eriksen, was to keep other players fresh for the more important fixture tonight. I think a back 3 of Mazaroui, Maguire and Yoro is nailed on for tonight and I would far rather see Shaw introduced as LCB if we are forced into a change than see the "Iceman" stumble onto the pitch.

Apparently had to leave the stadium due to a personal problem. Hope everything’s ok.
That would make sense why Shaw then came on - I assume Maz got injured and Lindelof was initially supposed to come on at HT

Man Utd 0:1 Wolves New
Read that the reason was that his son ran through a glassdoor and had an emergency operation to repair his forehead

If true, hopefully everything went well and the little guy will make a full recovery. The right decision to leave the stadium in my eyes, I am sure his partner was very worried.

It's confirmed - it was pretty serious - he got a huge cut in his forehead and will have a huge scar.....

Damn. But cosmetic surgery can do crazy things these days. Probably even more so in the next 5 or 10 years. And Lindelofs career will open up the doors to the best people. Still bad. Poor guy.

That’s scary. Hopefully he recovers fully. All the best to Victor and his family.

Yeah poor little bugger split his forehead in half on the glass stairs. Apparently already had plastic surgery.

Poor little man. All the best to them. A bit of context is a good thing in here.

Must've been scary. My son when he was 3 jumped off a chair and into the bookcase and split his head. No fracture but had to have his head glued.

Nothing more important than family and kids especially. Glad to read that the kid is doing well and they make a full recovery.

I would love to see the scouting report that led to his signing as you could see straight away he wasn't right for the premier league he was slow and weak which just isn't what you need to be in the premier league. That move just sounds like his agent did a hell of a job hyping him up and Utd were the one's who bit.

The summer we signed him Harry Maguire moved to Leicester for £12m just think of the money we could have saved if we just made the move for Maguire instead. If only a former Utd coach who was working at Hull could have tipped us off about that.

Nothing about Lindelof made you think he was a Mourinho style centre back so you have to wonder how much influence he had over that signing.

8 years later he'll finally be off.

Bet they regret triggering that 1 year extension which was clearly done to try and sell him last summer but he was injured as has become the norm with him.

I take back literally every nice thing I've said about Amorim.

Amorim isn't different to anyone else coming here. Again we get all the same old shit instead of playing youth.

He is only playing because De Ligt and Shaw aren't fit enough and Dalot is out. I think considering his options it makes sense rather than bringing in Fredericson who is very inexperienced

The actual depressing thing is we signed 3 CBs this summer on top of what we have and yet we play Lindelof in a crucial tie. Meanwhile most other sides just wing it with two first team CBs that seemingly never get injured.

Full list of CBs now is: Maguire, De Ligt, Yoro, Mazraoui, Shaw, Heaven, Martinez, Lindelof and Evans. We couldn't field 3 out of the 7 options that are ahead of Lindelof in the pecking order there.

Most teams CBs aren't as busy as ours
