so this guy has basically rinsed us at every transfer window so far and at every opportunity to sell him and the consequences about it are the captaincy and start in europa semi, add the fact that he is the weakest defender ever and never tackles and is bullied left right and centre every single game of his career at united, im genuinely lost for words he starts today

Athletic Club 0:3 Man Utd New
Saved a goal at least

Great goal line clearance but absolutely terrible on the ball and gifted them two chances to run at us in our half with his nervousness.

Casemiro was having a go at him when they played one-two around the half way line because he wouldn't move or pass the ball forward despite having loads of space and no pressure. He played it back toward Onana and we then got boxed in inviting pressure.

It's quite astonishing how time and time again he's so passive and afraid to take any responsibility. It's bewildering to see him constantly defer and take the easy cowardly route.

He recovered well from that error so credit to him. Keep it up till the end of the season then time to part ways.

Can’t wait to see the back of him, nearly give them to opportunity out of nowhere + he is so negative on the ball, sideway merchant brings too much anxiety in defense.

That nickname ‘’ Iceman ‘’ surely was sarcastic?

Shaky at the start but 2 crucial blocks to keep it at 0-0 while Bilbao were on top so can't complain, everything after was okay. For those who can't stand him there's only 5-6 games to go and he'll be gone. Hopefully with de Ligt and Shaw back (plus Mazraoui, Maguire and Yoro already being there) there won't be need to play Lindelof in Europa.

Give it a rest. We won 3 nil in Bilbao for Christ's sake

Horrible, horrible defender. Don’t care about the block, the ball just hit him. Casemiro and Maguire had to bollock him multiple times in the first half.

Captain of his national team right? Unbelievable. Can’t wait for him to go. I’m sorry, he pisses me off so much.

Made a great block but he was the worst player for us in the game. Needlessly gave the ball away so many times without any pressure at all.

I don't get the hate for Victor, yes I agree he's not up to the level we aspire to but he's done nothing but give his all ever since we signed him. Unfortunately he's just pretty weak as a CB, I actually thought he was tailor made to play in a back three as he's not bad on the ball.

It is mostly just due to the fact that he has been here for a long time during what has been a fairly awful decline at the club that has coincided with 115 and even more annoyingly the dippers winning league titles and Champions leagues. He has come to symbolize the drop in standards at the club for some and so he is the target for a lot of the hate regardless of the fact that he has always come across as a thoroughly good guy and is clearly very popular with his team mates. Under SAF he would have been quietly moved on after a couple of seasons and would just be a vaguely remembered squad member but somehow he has been here for almost a decade and so although the ones to blame are Woodward and his cronies the anger gets directed at Victor.

On a one man mission to gift them a goal

Also on a one man mission to make sure they didn't score a goal.

I don't agree, I think under Sir Alex he'd have served a purpose due to his ability to slot in at full back. Utility defender who would have been covered by brilliant players.

Unfortunately we've been making these squad style players key men for years now. He's never been first choice quality but used like he has been tonight is perfectly fine.

Yoro is the nearest to the top level defender we used to go out and sign back in the day.

Disagree with the 'mostly' here. You're doing a disservice to the core of why Lindelof gets the criticism he does. It's less to do with any symbolism and more to do with his actual ability, on field performances and his lack of courage to actually compete on the pitch. Being 'a good guy' and 'popular' really has no relevance here, otherwise we'll still have Mata at the club ready to sign another 1 year contract extension.

If he competed, dared to try and took responsibility, he would still get criticism (just as any other player that has left the club has e.g Fred, Herrera, AWB, McTominay and the list goes on), except the comments would be more or less 'he's not good enough, we need to move on' and not the existing 'why is he so scared and passive? Through his inaction, he creates more work for his team mates and makes us worse as an overall team etc'. We're talking about the most senior player at the club, a fully grown adult and seasoned pro, not a mascot or work intern. Sugar puff it all you want of 'we just won a game' or 'stop channelling the failure of the past 12 years on him' but the 'anger' is mostly because he's shit. Some people can't seem to handle calling a spade a spade because he's 'nice' and just want to like him because of that, whilst absolving him of his main and only duty, which is to help his team mates on the pitch.

When was the last time he had an actual run of games? I think the back end of Ten Hag's first season, where he was okay? I'm not too surprised he looks a bit shit since he's barely started in so long. Plus he was never that good anyway and I don't think he wants to be here anymore, so there's that.

We shouldn't be too hard on Lindelof. He's a squad man at best for us, and put in enough of a shift tonight to help deliver a clean sheet against a tough opponent at home. Of course he needs to move on, but he gave what Ruben asked of him and we're almost in the EL final now.

Failed to mention the 2 blocks from him which saved a certain goal.
Failed to mention that the goal line clearance is from his unsuccessful clearance 2 seconds prior. His clearance was tame, on the ground, in the middle of the box, penalty like almost for the oposition. So yeah, he was making up for his previous mistake, again.

We need a proactive defender, who can actually play football. How he got the nickname Iceman, I will never know.

No one is doubting he doesn’t need to go at the end of season but to not give him any credit at all for what was an important moment in the match is just plain stupid. But that’s just how some on here are. Too much hatred to give any credit.

I cannot understand those defending such a terrible footballer still at the club. When he gets his opportunity he never does anything to help himself. Not for a second would I credit him for that block, the ball just hit him and I'd not be in doubt that he may well have tried to squirm out of the way given more time. In addition he created that particular attack for Bilbao. I don't think anyone still believes he's still good enough, but I am in disbelief he still has people backing him. Another example of how far we have fallen when we have such mediocrity whores. Wake up

Such a terrible post

Still just don't get it with him. He's massive, but weak. He's supposedly good on the ball, but spent all of the second half yesterday not making the smart passes, instead turning his body completely away from half the pitch and cutting off channels for himself. His nickname of Iceman must be ironic given how he panics in his own box.

Anyway, 8 years. Good luck in whatever is next.

Shocking signing from the outset, another Mou and Mendes deal that screwed us over big time. I remember his debut away where he ducked a goalkeeper's kick near half way line, opposition player ran on and scored in first few minutes. Been overall poor and weak most games since. How he was allowed to stay is beyond me.

It's laughable to praise a goal line clearance when he created that goal chance for the opposition half a second prior by being an absolute mess. Why should anyone give credit for that?

WTF are you even talking about. He blocked the first shot and the second. He reacted as best to the first one. The initial fault was Yoro who didn’t come over quick enough to the wide player. What’s laughable is having so much hatred of a player you can’t even praise anything good they do. Rather pathetic.

Overall grand last night. You still see the reason to part ways with him as he can gift an opportunity from nothing.

The blocks were brilliant and if they had scored then we would've crumbled. However, apart from that was a clear weak link in the team. Hope he's not playing the 2nd leg, get De Ligt in please.

Those 2 moments of madness when he gave the ball away with zero pressure on him was infuriating.

Go and rewatch the whole play before you call out others, you obviously have no idea what are you talking about. A ball comes across and Lindelof clears the ball low and straight to the penalty dot to a Bilbao player who shoots and hits Lindelof who "blocks". If that's a "reacts as best" some kind of an excuse for a pathetic clearance, don't attack fans of having hatred towards Lindelof.
