OUR APOLOGIES FOR THE POOR SOUND QUALITY ON NIK'S AUDIO - WE HAD SOME TECHNICAL ISSUES.

Nik(@Rood) and Imran(@Annihilate Now!) are here to discuss Amad saving our blushes in a win against Southampton as well as our now annual loss at home to Brighton. They discuss Amorim's post-match comments, revisit how mid-table we may or may not be, and discuss some transfer news.

Despite Nik's audio problem, I managed to hear that he's not given up on Onana yet.

I didn't think we have a goalkeeper problem until recently, but I do now. With all due respect to his (very good) saves this season, which were mentioned, this just does not offset his recent string of errors - his second string of errors in just a year and a half at the club. All keepers are capable of outstanding saves and yes, some are better than others, but the basic requirements from a goalkeepers are stability, reliability and few errors. If you give away so many cheap goals, which also affects the rest of the team, then those saves lose value.

I can’t remember if it was this episode or the last one but Nik made me laugh. Imran spent about a minute and a half detailing a rule change he’d bring in before Nik responded with

“Yeah! Dunno about that…”

Officially he's made 3 major errors, not the worst (that's Sanchez) but up there:

I'd put him about even at the moment for the season since he was very good at the start - hopefully he can shake off the feck ups and get back to the early season form

Still I'd be happy to see Bayindir Vs Rangers

That was Imran's idea of no pens for handball in the box unless it's stopping a goal!

The handball rule is broken and needs major change but that's going too far - the whole 'unnatural position' thing is total bollocks though

Well those official stats really dont tell the whole story. There have been countless examples where he might not have been at fault, but could have done better. Then you can add all the mistakes he made in the champions league last season, that effectively ended up costing us progression there.
On top of that our defence have never really looked calm with him, there seems to be a lack of proper communication.

Just from memory, he also cost us a goal against Plzen in Europe.

Aside from the fact that stats aren't everything and crap goalkeeping that isn't an "error" wouldn't be counted here - like, I suppose, the second goal against Brighton - since when "not being the worst" is a factor for us?

Also, I'm OK with a goalkeeper making some mistakes during the season, that will happen, but when he makes a string of them in a short space of time (again), it shows he's unreliable.

He was absolutely useless in Europe last season no doubt , early this season it looked like he'd put those mistakes behind him but they have creeped back in under Amorim

Not sure Bayindir is the answer though

Agreed. Dont think he is in the long run, but think he deserves a run of games. Sadly looks more and more like we need a new keeper, on top of everything else.

Just making sure people remember that he was very good at the start of the season - got POTM, save of the month twice etc

Like I said though I'm happy for Bayindir to be cup keeper and fight for a first team team spot - long term it might be neither of them but we have bigger issues in the squad to fix first

That was my take a couple of months ago - that even if Onana isn't what Amorim wants, replacing him won't be first, second or third priority and could be done in a year or two.

But if he continues gifting goals and if Bayindir isn't the answer (I also don't think he is) then we might have to speed it up.
