He just looks so heavy. Every action is laboured - super poor from a technical point of view too. He essentially just comes off like a bodybuilder.
I wonder if losing some muscle mass might help, I mean the technique will remain poor, but maybe if he’s a bit limber and half a second quicker - he won’t look as poor as he currently does

The current striker for Sporting is banging in goals. I wonder if Sporting fans would even take this guy back
Suarez is perhaps a good reference to show the level of the Portuguese league now. As you say, he's banging them in but before he joined Sporting (He's now 28), he'd only scored a maximum of 8 goals in a top division.

Exactly, he's a journeyman striker with a good goal record in Spain's Segunda division. That is the level of most of the teams in the Primeira Liga, outside of Sporting, Porto and Benfica
I'm glad we went for Sesko now. I know he hasn't completely set the world on fire, but Gyokeres would've been a disaster in this team.
My mate who I was watching the game with yesterday said that Gyokeres looks like an SS guard and now I can't unsee it.

If he has some space to run into, he could be decent, but Arsenal's opponents will rarely give them that. I don't think Sesko would have done well for them either.

Ref gave y’all a foul (for some reason) but that would have been overturned by VAR. It was an absolutely atrocious failure of technique.

Slimani built a career off his time with Sporting. Averaged one in two over there but after that became a journeyman.
Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is another who stood out at Sporting and had very similar stats in the Eredivise after getting a move to the EPL.

I think it was on Licha, clear foul. He just pushed Licha from behind. Only surprising part was, why did ref take so long to blow the whistle.
Ref waited until the attack concluded before blowing in case he got it wrong and VAR could overturn. So, good thing Gyokeres missed, just in case.

The quality in the Portguese league outside of the big three might genuinely be equivalent to the top half of League 1 or bottom end of the Champo.
There´s a 12 point gap between 3rd placed Benfica (who are still unbeaten) and 4th placed Braga after 19 games. Porto look to be running away with the league with Sporting 7 points behind.
Speaks volumes about the competitiveness of that league. You basically play a handful of competitive fixtures each season and some occasional banana skin games against in form sides outside the big three.

On the other hand, he is Arsenal’s top scorer in a season were they lead both the PL and CL, so I’d say there are probably limits to how shit he is.

Nothing more demoralizing than realizing INSTANTLY that a player you signed isn't remotely good enough or that there's nothing to hope for as far as room to grow/improve. As you said, it was obvious with Antony pretty much instantly that he had little use in the PL and it's the same with VG.
Funny enough he's who I'd be playing up top if I was Arteta. I've always thought he was better suited through the middle instead of holding extreme width out wide and trying to create.
