Until the recent 65M + 15M Arsenal bid, there was no 60M bid of the supposed "gentlemen agreement", yet there were already whining, complaining, threats... Gyokeres' agent (and by extension, Gyokeres), are rubbing Varandas the wrong way and I really believe that Gyokeres staying at Sporting is a real possibility, although one that none involved really want.

He's 27 years old, he peaked these last 2 years, which were the best of his career. He earned admiration and respect all over the football world and beyond. He's in a club that gave him all conditions, with fans that adored him. He's risking to besmirch his legacy here and never return to these hights ever again. If he was smart, he wouldn't risk ending his career here and besmirch his highest achievement.

If he misses training tomorrow, without permission, he's proving to be dumb.

If Arsenal eventually sign him then it will make sense but it seems risky in how he and his agent are handling this while being second choice for Arsenal.

It would seem there isn't other clubs there to pay 70-80-90 million. Would Sporting really be that tough to ignore a decent fee and then send him out on loan. I suppose a quick apology and he could start next season.

I'd worry if United went for him, he'd have to understand it would be part of a project and not demand we sell him at a huge loss or loan him after one season if we're still midtable. We also can't take a loss on him if say Amorim is sacked and then he wants out, the club has to make sure he wants to be here even if Amorim is not around by December.

Wait until he plays I guess but something about this dude screams to me bullet dodged. I appreciate you have to push through a move sometimes but considering his career before sporting was entirely forgettable, a bit more grace and decorum wouldn't go amiss.

The guy was loitering in the Championship and Sporting gave him the platform that has made him one of the most coveted strikers on the market this summer, and this is how he behaves.

I’m generally wary of players who skip training to force through a move, almost never works out at their new clubs.

Not sure where this idea that Gyokores was struggling in the Championship has come from, seen it mention on here a few times. He was the 2nd top scorer and most assists the season he left. Yes Sporting gave him a platform to further showcase his talents but from that David Ornstein article it seems like they've gone back on his word of what would reach an agreement. He has also, unlike other players who get upset about not getting moves, is willing to give up wages as part of his loyalty bonus.

It really seems that Arsenal, Gyokores and his agent are going all out against Sporting's President. Hopefully they have the 80m that the President demand. Otherwise it will end up very ugly.

Exactly, people are just hurt he didn't choose us and that's their way of coping, making it seem like he is a trouble maker.

The most important question is, is Gyokores now Arsenal's priority after he burned the bridge with Sporting?

If the answer is yes, Sporting president is very firm on the at least 80m. Do Arsenal have the money?

List of highest goal-scorers in the Championship for the last few decades. Sporting gave him the platform which has made him desirable for clubs like United and Arsenal.

Yes. If they'll do it for force a move from their old club, chances are at some point they'll do it to force a move from you.

The championship spell is a huge red flag, no matter what anyone says. Guess time will tell..
The spell where he made the Team of the Year (2nd top scorer and most assists) and was a penalty shootout away from leading Coventry back to the Premier League?

I have had reservations that he would seriously excel over here but I'm not sure how his spell in the Championship can be a red flag. It might not indicate that he will be great at Arsenal but it also can't be a red flag because he was excellent with Coventry and then obviously dominated at Sporting.

He'll have a sick note for 'anxiety' or at least a note from his mum excusing him games.

It's pretty appalling behaviour for a contracted employee to refuse to turn up for work because he can't get his own way. I wonder if he'll return his wage for all the days he doesn't bother working?

Very much do sympathize with the clubs position, they've sold better players who were much more professional in how they went about it.

There's also no way they should accept less than what Benfica received for Darwin given his production and the lack of that in the market

Yikes, I've massively gone off him now. Can't be adding someone like that to the squad.

A lot of cope in the above few posts

Im indifferent about it. Would have liked him at United for the right price but I don't look at him and think wow this is somebody who is going to tear it up in the Premier League.

I'm thinking 15 league goals, maybe 20 with penalties. We'll see.

Employee wants to leave to better themselves, with higher wages and a higher level of working, let's employer know about it...fans kick off...

Pretty sure anyone else would do the same thing in the circumstances. Not sure why people are so up in arms about this.

Also it isn’t like he is asking his employer to let him go for peanuts. I believe Arsenal's offer was €65m+€10m. I can see why Gyokeres is acting like this if he felt they first betrayed him by not honouring this gentleman's agreement and then turning down a €75m package.

Btw didn't Sporting sell Bruno for an initial €55m? I know a few years back so inflation needs to be accounted for but do they rate Gyokeres that highly? Or have they just become more greedy?

Gyok should change representation asap and with immediate effect fire his incompetent agent. He’s extremely bad advised.

He should also take a good look in the mirror because right now he looks like a greedy fool. I know people who know his father Stefan and they’re a little bit chocked. These actions isn’t a fair representation of his family’s values, they have no history being greedy and petty like this.

I sincerely hope that Sporting is standing firm and teach Viktor and his agent a well deserved lesson. If he’s smart he pick up the mobile and phone the president and apologize. Maybe maybe then they can find some common ground and move forward.

On a side note wtf is Arse thinking? Never go public or expect anything until they’re sure every number is 100% correct. Clearly amateur hour in the red side of London.

Must have missed Arse "going public" ?

His employer has a price and he's under contract. It's higher than Arsenals offer, there's no real reason for Sporting to accept less, especially when you're paying about the same for Madueke.

Doesn't really matter what we paid for Bruno 5 years ago, in today's market. I don't think Gyokeres' valuation is particularly high, you guys seem to want to cheap out on buying a striker, but happily throw money for players in other positions.

You can't say this paints him in a very good light. Compare it to the Mbuemo situation and it's night and day.

Not sure how Arsenal is doing anything wrong here. We're bidding what we think he is worth and negotiating with the selling club, standard stuff.

I think Arsenal is basically fine to let this go on for a while because we don't leave for our pre-season trip to Asia for another eight days and maybe RBL has a rethink on the Sesko price in the meantime.

The agent says there was a gentleman’s agreement and he has proof. The president refuted this and asked the agent to provide the evidence. No evidence has been provided yet but Gyokeres still feels betrayed? Hmm, something doesn’t quite add up and someone’s lying. Surely the agent could’ve just provided the proof he claimed he had and settle all this drama? Not a good look for any player to try and force a move through by refusing to turn up for work.

Different economy, back then they needed the money... They don’t now, they can hold for the deal that they feel is right.

Feels like what happened with Harry Kane. A gentleman’s agreement means feck all if it ain’t in the contract.
