This doesn't really make any sense.
If he was such a high quality player he wouldn't be where he is now?
At the age of 27 his career is essentially two good seasons in the Championship and two good years in Portugal. He is yet to test himself at the top level week in, week out.
Out of interest why do you think a club like Brighton that are famed for developing players never gave him a chance?

The principle is the same. You don't compare leagues, you focus on a specific player's quality. Otherwise players from non-big 5 leagues would never move up in the world. Fortunately, clubs don't casually dismiss individual talent because they happen to play in a different league. Otherwise, we wouldn't have ever seen the likes of CR7, Nani, or Bruno at United.
Probably because he wasn't half the player then as he is now. Sometimes players leave England and return far better versions of themselves. Take Salah flopping at Chelsea, moving to Italy and having moderate success, only to return to England and knock in over 40 goals in a year. That's why its important to look at the individual and how they are faring in the present, instead of several years ago.
Moving leagues can make a huge difference though, Timo Werner for example got 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga games at Leipzig then moved to Chelsea and scored only 10 in 56 Premier League appearances from them.
That can go both ways though. Beyond the Salah example, Haaland scored more in England than he did in Germany. That's why leagues should be ignored and all the focus should be on individual player qualities.

Signing someone who is young at a lower price to come in and learn is not the same as signing a 27 year old for big fees to be your main man.
Bruno has been great for us imo but there is a big portion of our fans who think he has not been a success.

Precisely. That's why you ignore the leagues and focus instead on the player's individual attributes.
If you're having to resort to criticizing Bruno (who is objectively our best player) in order to argue that Gyokeres isn't the right buy because he too is from the same league, then that's a debate you're likely to lose 100% of the time.
I am not, I like Bruno and I think he is our best player... I am usually the first one to defend Bruno.
Lukaku is very much a good example, he looks no different whilst playing elsewhere it's just he's been more productive.
Anyone looking at Gyokeres's numbers alone and assuming they'll translate is being foolish. However for anyone watching his actual games it's clear what qualities he does have and why he's considered a top striker.

There's obviously zero expectation that 50 something goals in Portugal will result in the same number in England. Somewhere in the 20s, possibly as high as 30 wouldn't at all be unreasonable though. When combined with Cunha, that would be a massive improvement from this year.
He also plays well for Sweden, so he has shown that he's capable to score goals beyond the Portuguese league.

Of course we can afford Gyökeres and Cunha (I now assume we can offload at least a couple of players for a decent fee like Rashford and Sancho) - but that probably rules out most other signings for the summer. Having said that - they will strengthen us so much I would actually be happy if those are the only players we get.
Note the word "only" in his quote. Also I think that would rule out all players anyway.
I think he'd be poor at this level. He found his level in Portugal at 27, scores a lot of pens and goals with space he wouldn't get in this league with shots poor keepers don't save. Fans are that desperate for a good striker you would think he's the 2nd coming of batigol

Odd. I watched the presser and didn’t hear him say this. He basically responded to the question about Gyokeres by talking about how he wants to help Hojlund improve.
It sounds like Romano has disingenuously merged the answers of two separate questions to create a misleading headline.
I think it’s correct to be sceptical of a player putting those numbers up in the Portuguese league, however he has also been a success in the championship. Any player that can do it in that league can probably handle the PL. I doubt he flops, he just won’t deliver 50 goals like he is now.

This is a very poor understanding of probability and should be ignored.
