It's a joke that some think he won't paly well in England. This is a proper CF who would score goals anywhere.
Anybody that knows what to look for in a striker can see that the lad has the attributes. It's a joke that some think he won't paly well in England. This is a proper CF who would score goals anywhere.
Looks very much like he's decided on ArsenalI feel like all 4 of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and United should be going all out to sign him.
Yeah I think so. Things can change, specifically if United wins the Europa League, but even Sporting forum transfer insider think he's Arsenal bound. He's usually right so it's probably done.Looks very much like he's decided on Arsenal

And for just 60 million pounds plus objectives. Great deal for Arsenal. It was the best Sporting player I've seen in my life time and I've seen some decent ones (Figo, Quaresma, Ronaldo, Nani, Bruno Fernandes, Raphinha just Sporting career of course). He surpassed those Sporting career wise because he was the driving for in our two consecutive league wins. We haven't won twice in a row in 70 years, so he takes top spot because of goals and impact.

If it's basically done would we not hear more about it?It's a gentlemans agreement and not a release clause that activates at seasons end right? And for just 60 million pounds plus objectives. It's a gentleman's agreement I think. Sporting has renounced on the release clause when Gyökeres agreed to stay an extra year. I have been hearing and reading alot of stuff in Lisbon regarding Berta the Arsenal DoF, Gyokeres agent and Sporting DoF Palmeiro. I hope I'm wrong of course but I do think it's practically from what I'm hearing and reading. If it's basically done would we not hear more about it?It's a gentlemans agreement and not a release clause that activates at seasons end right?
I have an odd feeling he's still deciding, with Arsenal being most advanced as things stand.
Yeah I have little doubt that they've had some advanced talks, and that Gyokeres would be keen. It's a gentleman's agreement I think. I don’t think it’s as clear cut as ‘they add a 9 and suddenly they add his goals onto the ones they already score’. A large part of why their other players score goals is probably down to how they play and the fact they aren’t feeding a striker.Even if Arsenal get him, I still think they'd find a way to feck up winning the league.
I have a friend who is from Lisbon and we somewhat often watch Sporting matches together. Gyokeres is his favourite player that's ever played for them and, to my untrained eye, he looks sensational every time I've seen him play. He has that trait of receiving the ball and *instantly* trying to move forward with it, drives at the defence which none of our players seem to do.We literally have a Sporting fan saying he's the best player he's ever seen playing for them and some of you – and I'm pretty sure most haven't even watched full games – think he's shit just because he plays in the Portuguese league (the same one where we picked up our best player).![]()
The fact that there are no reports of him joining Arsenal yet gives me (false) hopes.
Let's say we win UEL and then get him instead of Delap, and don't sign another 10 other than Cunha. Sell the obvious ones, profit from Alvaro's and maybe Greenwood's sell-on clauses. That would mean we still have money to get a CM and a GK. Cunha and Gyokeres would massively improve our lack of goals.Apart from City and Newcastle he'd make every other teams attack better. Plus his release clause means he is reasonable priced.
The downside for United is the entire team is poor, so it's hard to find enough cash to fund multiply positions in one window.
But for Arsenal or Liverpool they can afford to spend most of the summer budget on one player and their team improves massively.
I made peace with him going there back in January when Ornstein said club feels he's going elsewhere. I do admire the optimism of people in here who think he hasn't made his mind up yet though. It's a gentleman's agreement I think. This signing makes literally all of the sense which is why I can't see it happening! If we win EL, there's a slight chance Ruben can convince him but I'm not sure he will end up here sadly
I know what you mean by that trait of his. I've hardly watched him at all but even the little I'd seen him at Coventry that trait was so obvious even then.I have a friend who is from Lisbon and we somewhat often watch Sporting matches together. I feel sorry for Ruben to be used to that and then watching Hojlund do nothing with the ball on a weekly baseI have a friend who is from Lisbon and we somewhat often watch Sporting matches together. I wish we could but clearly relationship not strong enough and now Berta has got in with camp. Plus the fact that @Sly said a reliable Sporting source says they hear it's practically done to Arsenal. I had slim hopes he might have had change of heart if we won on Wednesday but unfortunately that's not the case. So we will have to put our faith in Delap.Just for once I'd like us to hire a manager who can leverage a relationship with a former player that's good.
We had Ole, Haaland's manager, and wasn't even on the ball before he even got to Dortmund.
We've got Amorim, Gyokeres' manager, and surely we're not going to let him go to Arsenal.
Pay clause/just above clause in installments, and we get a brilliant striker for 60 odd million over a few years. What's not to go for here?
So much of the initialisation of Amorim's football is predicated by what the #9 can do. You can imagine the shellshock he's in trying to get his system to function when the first mobilisation doesn't, well... mobilise.I feel sorry for Ruben to be used to that and then watching Hojlund do nothing with the ball on a weekly base
Didn’t realize he has those love handles. Gotta get rid of them, if he wants to play here.
From the comments yesterday, it may not be as done and dusted as has been reported in some areas. The Sporting kit man even said after they clinched the title that it is not decided and he may even stay one more year to go for three in a row at Sporting.Looks very much like he's decided on Arsenal
