Viktor Gyökeres

Yeah all comps. I'm an optimist not a mad man.

I mean I'm being quite optimistic I know. This would require us to play at least 7 or 8 games across the FA Cup and League Cup, which added to the league would make it a 45 game season. Let's say they each play 90% of those 45 games, which let's say is 40 games on on average per player.

Viktor Gyökeres - 28 goals in 40
Brian Mbuemo - 16 goals in 40
Matheus Cunha - 12 goals in 40
Bruno Fernandes - 13 goals in 40

I've probably over shot it by about 10% across the board but I wholeheartedly disagree with some of the replies I've had suggesting Cunha and Mbuemo will get less than 10 goals each in all comps. Dream a little boys.
 tbf...we've got a few of those mad men in here

Personally, I don't think it necessarily does, depending on the credibility of the £100/120m transfer kitty, and whether any of those funds are needed to go towards previous deals.
i believe that's really the difference between this deal getting done right away or having to wait a few weeks for this to play out

But it’s not like they had so many offers at €60m+10 for them to renege on their deal.

This is more realistic.
This is very pessimistic. I get that our signings in the past have performed poorly, but Cunha scored 12 and 15 in the prem the last 2 seasons for a not very good Wolves. Why he’d suddenly drop to 6 I don’t know. Gyökeres about right, Mbeumo a bit low too.

How do you know?

For the public find out, someone has to leak it, once that happens relationships sour. If things are still amicable between club and player you’d think both sides would like to keep it that way.

Mbeumo averages very consistently 0.25 xG per 90 +/- 0.03 (excluding penalties), lets just call it 0.3 and be generous. That means to score 16 goals performing about average, he'll have to play 4800 minutes next season. Bruno Fernandes played 4,932 minutes in all competitions last year for context, that includes 1281 minutes in the Europa League. To get it in 40 games (at an average of 95 minutes per game, 3800 minutes), he'd have to over-perform his xG by about 25%. He under-performed his xG from open play in every season bar the last one (where he had an absolutely monstrous over-performance).

I'm not saying it's impossible, but mathematically... unlikely. 20 goals between them would be a very good and successful first season him and Cunha.

I'm not totally convinced by Gyokeres, but I think he's the right fit. Cunha and Mbeumo are creators first, not scorers. Having a true goal scorer in front of them will take a lot of the burden.

Be interested to know what names he did hear then, because if it's not him god knows who we're actually getting

I'd be surprised if he was told anything.
He is quite well connected but I doubt he would say if we were chasing someone even if he has been told as it could complicate things and damage his relationships at the club, stating we are not actively looking at someone is a more simple affair and is in keeping with what has been reported for a while now. I believe INEOS will look for a younger and cheaper alternative that fits the profile of what we are looking for and we could well be in for a surprise when they do pull the trigger, just hope it turns into a nice surprise.

Here's Andy Mitten to piss on everyones chips:

I do worry that that might be true.

I've been wondering if we're planning on giving the two young strikers, Hojlund and Zirkzee, another season and prioritising getting better #10s behind them. And then, if they don't improve next year, addressing the #9 spot then.

I can't see us selling Zirkzee after one season. Maybe if we can get someone to bid quite good money for Hojlund then we might be able to offload him and address it this summer. But with struggling to sell the unwanted players so far, and with other issues as well - GK and CM especially - I wonder how high up the list we're prioritising spending £60-70m on a first choice #9 this summer after the two (hopefully) #10 additions for similar amounts.

I don’t find it the end of the world if we don’t get him. What would be a shocker however is having one of Zirkzee or Hoijlund as a starter. Having a front 3 of Cunha, Mbeumo and Bruno isn’t too shabby. We would need a CM though as I don’t think Mainoo, Ugarte, Casemiro, Collyer is strong enough.

nobody at the club would tell taht guy feck all about who they were going to purchase and be interested in

He’s 2/9 with paddy power to join us now! I know odds mean nothing really but it is a good indicator that it’s looking more and more likely!

Here's Andy Mitten to piss on everyones chips:

Romano has said we are calling Sporting every day about Gykorese, he’s much more reliable than Mitten when it comes to transfer news.

Mitten does seem to have contacts at the club but I think an awful lot of his opinions are guesses. He’s played it very safe as well with what he said on talk sport “I’m not saying it won’t happen” “things change very quickly in the transfer market” so if it does end up happening he has himself covered.

He's probably the best connected juno to United. He doesn't get involved in the transfer shite though
This is correct. And if he had been told, he still wouldn’t have said anything, because he genuinely wants what’s best for the club, and selling transfer gossip on the radio isn’t that.

I think Mitten was just being honest about what he heard when he was there at the time, namely we were chasing a 10 (which was almost certainly Mbeumo). He didn't hear anything about a 9 so that's what he's saying.
