Viktor Gyökeres

Transfer hungry caftards are really like hungry hyenas feasting on a carcass. Anyone come close to disturb that i.e. a journalist (even one who doesn't deal with transfer gossips) doesn't feed their needs for transfer rumours that align with their wishes, they are instantly attacked.

You're next if you keep this up!

quite right too the summer windows is the only fun we get

I don't think Mitten knows anything either way. The public already know we are after Cunha and Mbuemo and there was previously no credible link to Gyokeres, so the best he is basically just reinforcing what is already publicly known.

Here's Andy Mitten to piss on everyones chips:

It's such a nothing snippet. He basically just said he has no inside info on it.

He says the club didn't mention any number 9s at all. Does that mean we're not looking for a striker? Of course not, it's very clearly a position we'll sign someone.

Agreed. If he heard anything about Gyokeres from the club, you can bet the house he would've immediately scampered to his laptop and drafted up an exclusive. I don't doubt that he knows people at the club just like most other journos who attend the pressers, but there's no way anyone who matters at the club would reveal anything about future signings to a journo, in the middle of potential negotiations with other clubs no less.

Glad to know Tony Cascarino approves of the potential signing of Gyokeres.

He remembers seeing Gyokeres playing "really well" the day United played Coventry.....

Only problem. Gyokeres had left Conventy for Sporting a year earlier!!!

nobody at the club would tell taht guy feck all about who they were going to purchase and be interested in
Andy is no regular Joe, he is told many things because he keeps his mouth shut. How you think a regular fan channel is given a chance to interview sir Jim and our CEO.

Bless him, if he could remember taking money to lose matches, that's nothing.

Because as you said he’s no regular Joe. He has built up a lot of contacts and fair play to him. But that doesn’t mean he’s informed on everything going on in the club. Ruben seems to like to keep a lot of things tight knit. I highly doubt he would allow information about transfer targets be linked to a journalist who writes a magazine and is part of a fan podcast.

Agree, he is no regular Joe.
But he isn't just a "fan channel". He is the founder of United We Stand, the best and maybe longest running fanzine at United. So when Jim and Omar speak to him, it is their way of reaching some of our most dedicated match going fans, who buy United We Stand. Get those fans on side and you are going a long way to shape opinions.

I did like the way Andy say "i have not heard anything about Gyökeres". That is not him keeping his mouth shut, as he has spilled the beans many times about topics that were fare more embarrassing to the club. It is him being honest. Where as you have muppets like Ben Jacobs on every channel regurgitating snippets as it they were his own, just to make some appearance fees.

Agree. Andy was at OT last week to interview Omar Berrada, It is not like Omar is going to tell him who they are talking to.

No one at United would be briefing on this. The likes of Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano get their stories from the agents, im sure, who have a vested interest in informing them.

A lot of risk associated with this move. He’s 27 and just two years ago was playing with Coventry city where he only scored 38 goals in 91 apps. I can’t think of a player who’s taken a similar career path finding success so late in his career in a league as competitive as the PL.

I’m sure there are other strikers that came into their peak at his age and then joined a top league for the first time, and went on to succeed?

Jamie Vardy? Didier Drogba?

Could the unthinkable happen and Orny does a complete u turn on Osimhen stance to say we have pivoted from Gyokeres. Mitten did say he apparently wants Utd so maybe that idea has some legs but unlikely I know.

I don't think we will be in for Osimhen personally. He's a good player, but I can't see Amorim risking his #9 selection on a player he doesn't know, and who seems to have a bit drama that follows him around. Especially when there's a comparably effective player who he does know, has worked with and trusts to do a job for him.

you know damn well Amorim is pushing to sign Gyokeres full well knowing that he has to start the season quickly and winning matches....not trying to bed in a new CF

In short; no. People are willing the Osimhen transfer into existence, but to me it seems clear no top clubs are going anywhere near him, and that doesn't look likely to suddenly change.

Good examples to be fair. Hopefully Gyokeres can have a Drogba like impact if we do sign him.

Gyokeres, like Drogba, has improved on his CV by scoring against English opposition. Those two goals by Drogba for Marseille against Newcastle are the most memorable club goals I've seen from a non United player. Too bad he did not join us.

Ian Wright too, was playing 2nd division football for Palace at 26 and still became Arsenal's record scorer after that

IF Gyokeres had aerial ability I wouldn't have any concerns about him getting on the end of crosses from Cunha and hopefully Mbeumo too.

Which is, of course, precisely how we cross already in Amorim's system; on the floor. It's tailor made for him.
Remember Antonio Valencias crosses. Weren't own goals one of our top scorers one year from him drilling crosses across the 6 yard box

Mitten generally has next to no interest in getting involved in transfer news, he never really has done.

He's not that type of journo and he's better for it.
I generally enjoy reading and listening to him talk about United.

Does Gyok miss headers or do they just not play him in for headers?
Their style of play doesn't involve a lot of aerial crosses but when he's had the chance he's been iffy. It's not like he's horrible in the air but it's not one of his strengths compared to someone like Osimhen.

Does Gyok miss headers or do they just not play him in for headers?
This headers thing is overrated to me. Do we put in a lot of great aerial crosses? Nope. Our crosses barely beat the fullback or the near post centre back. So it does not matter.

It would be the last thing I would be worried about when assessing a striker. There is no way that a top level striker doesn't know how to head a ball properly. Headed goals are usually a function of how many good aerial crosses the striker receives and we don't put in great aerial crosses. If we get players who do that, i'm sure he or whoever we sign will put some away.

I’ve said why with Bruno, he’s moving to 6 and we get feck all penalties anyway. It might be a bit low but I’m not expecting his goal output to be as productive from next season.

I wasn’t interested in discussing other players you have listed and the three I have listed are at the upper end of your estimate anyway.
Here’s the thing if the team are wining more games more easily then players like Bruno step up even as an 8 he’ll get double figures in a team that’s in the top 5 of the PL, not the bottom 5 of the PL.

If he’s only got 6 goals next season we are in for another truly awful season. He got 19 goals and 19 assists this season from 57 games played and he played a third of those matches in a dysfunctional team as 6/8 Hybrid.
