Viktor Gyökeres

He will be at Arsenal banging tens of goals. And those here who said he plays in the Portuguese league will not be seen.

Our best player at the moment is from the Portuguese league. Our best player in history is from that league.

He is also proven in the championship. I know its a league below. But lots of players who have seen no difference in their performances moving up. If we had the budget. He is my first choice. Osimhen 2nd, we would be stupid to pass if we could get him

We simply have to do whatever we can to sign him, it makes too much sense for us not to give it our best shot. Him understanding the forward role in this system, he's in his prime and our manager will have full confidence in his ability and be patient with him if it's needed.

He's a great forward, the ingredients are there. He's got elite movement and reading of play and that translates to any league. He's more than just a scorer because of his physicality, hold up player and general team play once he finds himself in channels. He can also handle one v ones with defenders.

Taking too many gambles doesn't work out too well. Signing another really talented youngster isn't what we should be looking to do right now, we should be looking to sign ready made players in their prime. Asking youngsters to join a struggling team and turn it's fortunes is asking for trouble.

Agreed. I think £50-55m will be enough to buy him given the reported reduction in his release clause this summer.

If he winds up at Arsenal, they could go on a City like run of leagues given that they're already knocking on the door with intent right now.

I am suspicious of the bolded part. Ugarte was hugely successful with this manager, in this system and yet his thread is full of people saying he is not good enough and telling us that success in Portugal is meaningless because the PL is tougher.

Gyokeres certainly seems the best option of the bigger name strikers out there but there is the caveat that he has not done it in a top league and to respond to the point made by @The-Mezzala I can name plenty of prolific Championship strikers who failed miserably in the PL over the last 20 years. Possibly the most significant indicator is Amorim himself who has appeared to be lukewarm at best over the idea of reuniting with Gyokeres at United, we are not considered front runners due to the Arsenal interest but it is also very much due to our own perceived lack of interest in the player. INEOS could be trying to be clever and throwing out the Delap story to hide our intentions but it could just as easily be that the Manager just does not want him and prefers a different target.

44 fecking goals in 45 games this season. 43 out of 50 for the last season.

Sign him up. We need goals. He can score them!

Ronaldo is not the best player in our history by the way, maybe highest peak season but others did it over multiple seasons.

I think he’s probably our top target, just need to convince him to join us over every other club in Europe

how do we even bother looking at anyone else....he's the perfect age at 26 with goal scoring pedigree and knows the amorim system of play

i certainly hope so as we are desperate for a goal scorer and while there bring Trincao with him

Its sort of annoying that Amorim promised Sporting he wouldn’t attempt to take any players with him to United before the summer, only to have Chelsea swoop in for Quenda a couple of months later.

Hopefully that works out better than Erik and his relationship with FDJ.

Buying from Sporting is probably less complicated than from Barca, who were relying on De Jong to compete for bigger and better things. Sporting, when it comes to big 5 leagues, are typically a selling club. Barca are not.

agreed....some bs right there simply bc he probably felt that going in for him when learning of chelsea making the move, felt like he would be going against his word.

The best forward on the market. United just cant let him go to Arsenal. No, no way.

I have faith in Amorim’s relationship with Gyokeres to get this done
I don't know the extent of his affinity for amorim but hopefully it strengthens our case.

In the end however it'll very much depend on whether we win europa or not as otherwise I reckon arsenal will have a straight path to him.

I honestly believe a front line of Gyokeres, Cherki, Amad, Garnacho, Zirkzee and Hojlund with Bruno, Ugarte and Casemiro behind them, and Mainoo in the mix, will have us competing for a title.

. . . and a proper right wing back

Its difficult. Klopp apparently badly wanted Hancko from Feyenoord. Ready made left back/physicall centre back to phase out Robertson and Gomez.

Now Slot doesnt want any of his former players, sensing a heap of pressure if a player does not deliver straight away like ETH´s signings of his former players.

If Gyokeres is 70mil clause and up to 200k a week I would go for it if I was Ruben. No matter previous connection. I do believe he is better than Osimhen.

We got Rooney from Everton

I keep reading this but winning the Europa League only gets us in the Champions League next season, it doesn't make us a 'Champion's League team'. You really think it makes a big difference?

If we're in the Champions League and we're a team, then what does that make us ?

Are we likely to be in the Champion's League again the season after next? Are we likely to be a constant in it while Gyokeres is here? Why not address the point - why would sneaking into the top European competition for the one season, while finishing in a horrendous league position, hold much sway at all for him?

He's seemingly wanted by 4 PL clubs. Without CL football, I think Chelsea and United might be an afterthought for Gyokeres when he can pick between Liverpool and Arsenal.

The answer is yes. Especially if we make it next year, it will bring in quality players that will greatly improve our chances of doing it in subsequent years.

We're not getting close to this lad are we. It's pretty evident we're Premier Paupers at this point, and if we want to make the massive changes we need to, we can either make three low cost signings, or splurge big on one player.

I'd say striker should be the priority, but I don't think that's the way it's gonna go.

As long as we get a proper, proven striker who actually scores a lot of goals, we will be fine. Whether its Gyokeres, Osimhen, or anyone else.

I'm not keen on Osimhen myself. I don't know what fusses me so much, but I just think he's got a lot of what's failed before about him.

I don't doubt his talent, but I don't know if I see it translating well into our team.

Maybe I'm just nuts, or talking nonsense haha.

I'm hoping I get proved wrong though of course!

I totally agree with your statement though, we need a striker who scores lots.

The only risk with Osimhen is the perception that he may have a bit of an eratic personality. But in terms of football, I'm confident he can put up numbers that are similar to Isak - especially when surrounded by the likes of Bruno and others.

That's a bold position. I like it.

I don't want to derail the conversation here which I realise I'm in danger of doing, so I'll just say my preference is still Gyökores, though I don't think we can afford that, I just think he's got something about him, that (urgh) mercurial aura. I think we'll see him at a rival next season.

I hope you're right, and I'm totally behind whoever we get because I want Ruben to succeed haha.

As always, he shows that he has a great ball striking. He can score in tight angle.

If Amorim wants him then Amorim needs to make us winning the Europa League this season.

I want whatever you're smoking, because 2/3 players are not going to take us from 14th to 2nd/3rd.

Try 6/7, that's with selling the likes of Garnacho, Zirkzee, Hojlund and Casemiro.
