It wouldn't surprise me if Arsenal goes into revenge mode and bids €150M for Diomande now.

Don't see Arteta going for Barcola, Vini is worth it not sure Barcola is.
Don't think Arsenal will go for Barcola either but I'd assume they'll target someone else with the Vini resources assuming he does stay at Real

It's like all these Madrid players go to the same school of create as much hype and drama as possible to then announce a contract renewal. The amount of times I've seen this as a United fan.

You have to think surely Madrid are involved in this ? Must be some play to ensure there name is always in the media.

Julian Alvarez perhaps? Not a direct LW, just somebody I think they could potentially go for as a different high-profile signing.

I'm not sure they'll look for a LW specifically now, the best of the available options are the likes of Barcola - who isn't as good as Vini Jr but would probably cost the same if they get in a bidding war with Liverpool - or Ndiaye who won't really move the needle that much.

The people accusing us of lacking ambition would have been front queue accusing the club of being naive, if we were after him.

Yeah, other than Kvara and Vini, there aren't many names to get excited about.

Deep down you know Rashford makes sense
All jokes aside, I wouldn't have minded him as a rotation option. But that's a space now occupied by Tzolis. Plus, Rashford may well have been happy to have that status at Barca, but turn his nose up at being utilised that way by Arsenal.

It's more that there is a transfer thread on one of the best wingers in the world and were just not even in the conversation, we're mainly talking about a potential Arsenal transfer. Same with the Bruno G thread.

Funny thing to be bothered about tbh

That we're no longer able to go for the best players, in terms of quality, on the market? It's an indictment on how we've been run into the ground, despite having the 8th biggest revenue of any club in the world.

Again. Odd thing to get worked up about in this instance.

What's odd about it? I wouldn't say I'm worked up, 3 mildly disappointed posts.
Being disappointed and complaining that United aren’t in a conversation that may be not even be a conversation about a player that looks likely to move nowhere.

Just feels odd.

Well it's a general point, Vini Jr just happens to be the highest profile. I mentioned Bruno G as well in the post you responded to.

I think Tielemans is a smarter signing than Bruno given our needs

No complaints here
Price wise 100%. If we're looking at pure stylistic fit and quality, Bruno is a far more rounded player for our needs.

If they cost the same would you have picked Tielemans? Fair enough if so, no chance for me.

Genuinely don’t think theres a huge gap in quality. Certainly not to justify the extra cost. United have done well

If they cost the same then you go with Bruno but that’s kinda the point isn’t it. I’d rather we were more savvy.

I get the price is the biggest factor and you're right,. He's probably not double the price of Tielemans. But he is better than him and doesn't carry the same injury risk, so I think it evens out a bit.

Making our budget go further by securing a great deal, definitely. My point is the trade off is quality. All things being equal, you'd pick the better player. Id like it to be less about the budget and more about the quality of the player. As I said, that's just an indiciment of how we've been run. Much like how with Rashford staying, we had to go for someone like Thompson for the LW.

I think we’ve signed two quality players so far in Tielemans and Santos though.

I'd love to see Vini in PL. If not at United, I'd rather see him at Arsenal over City, Liverpool or Chelsea.

Or maybe they don't get Vini, so they go for Rashford instead. One can always hope.

Oh I would love to see them come in for Rashford, in terms of this guy only want him at one place which is here. However would never happen unless we ever became another state nation plaything

Not sure why the term 'used' is being thrown so much. Maybe (and why not) he said to Arsenal, ok, give me an offer and if Madrid doesnt agree to my terms/offer me a raise, am prepare to sign for you.

Are you new here? Haven’t you seen so many times United were “used” to get new contracts in the past years

Cant remember other cases than Ramos, pretty sure there were some, but I personally never used that phrase. Although Ramos was a bit different, he was much more connected to Madrid and the whole story seemed a bit off from the starr.

In any case, the question here is wheather Vini would sign for Arsenal if he doesnt get the offer he wants from Madrid. I think he would. Not sure thats being used.

Can’t you see him in Spain?

At best in this situation you're (as Arsenal in this situation but we've all been there) second choice. That's at best.

In reality the player has zero intention of joining but knows they can get more money from the club they actually want to play for if there are alternatives on the table. That's why people correctly are saying "used".

How do you know he has 0 intention of joining though?

Second choice to Real Madrid ain‘t the worst thing.
In reality you can only pressure your first choice if the alternative is somewhat believable.

Arsenal fans aren't used to their club being used by top players to get better deals at their current club.

My favourite arsenal fan comment so far on this was the fella who rang up talksport in response to their fans being called deluded and said the reason Vini Jnr wants to join arsenal is because he sees Arsenal as having a better chance to win the CL than Real Madrid.

I mean, talk about confirming the stereotype.

So they offered 22M and we were going up to 24M. Can't blame him leaving 2M on the table to stay at Madrid for his last "superstar contract".

Not sure where we go from here, Diomande gone, Yildiz not for sale and the Barcola fee is ridiculous. Genuinely think we might end up with Rashford....

Now that you've shown the world how much money you have, I'm sure we're happy to do a deal at the 70m mark

Disappointed, but not surprised at what looks like the outcome of this. Was always a bit of a long shot.

I'm not sure it's the best for Vini or Madrid, but the draw of Madrid is just always so strong.

Yeah, i'm glad the club at least swung for this, & swung hard. But as others have said, not sure what the real alternatives are now. They could try for someone like Alvarez to at least increase the quality of the forwards all be it in a slightly different position. They could go for a stop gap solution like Rashford or actually not do anything and try & see how the situation looks next summer, perhaps Vini doesn't work out or a Yildiz becomes available.

Wouldn't discount any of the options just now.
