Was United v Barca the best Europa League tie ever?

Yes, of course. Braga-Sherif Tiraspol was just last season!

Feels like it was box office

Has there been a better match up in the competition?
"The competition has been known as the Europa League since the 2009–10 season"

You gotta be more precise. Are you talking Europa League or are you including its precursors?

Nah, if you want to include UEFA Cup my favourite tie will still be Bremen v Valencia 2009-10.

The number of stars/future stars on show that game. Bremen's attacking trio of Ozil - Marin (back when he was good) - Hunt with Pizzaro, Frings and Mertesacker also in the squad against Villa - Mata - David Silva in Valencia with Joaquin, Baraja.

The 2nd leg was topsy turvy, ended 4-4 with Valencia winning by away goals.

EDIT: Just saw that season was the first time it was called the Europa League, I thought they only started naming it that 10 years ago

Think I heard the commentators say it's the most watched Europa League tie or something, but I don't know.

Gotta be by far the most Box-office match the Europa League round of 32 has ever seen

Definitely not the best but probably the biggest. Thought tonight's match wasn't the highest of quality. First half wasn't great from either side and Barca were poor in the 2nd half.

We probably had a few more stars on the pitch but that Liverpool vs Dortmund tie immediately comes to mind.

If you think of the drama, there's also Fulham's comeback against Juve after they've lost the first game 3:1.

Has to be up there.

United-Arsenal to rival it later on this season?

As much as I hate them that Liverpool final back in 2001 was pretty exciting.

Monaco/Leverkusen from today looks like a mad game and tie

Shame it wasn’t later in the tourney.
Yeah, bonkers its still round of 16 stage next.

Theres Champions League as well and the only tie comparable from a sheer hype point of view is Madrid vs Liverpool. Nobody gives a shit about City/Liepzig or Inter/Porto or whatever.

Think the first leg will probably get game of the season (so far)

Wasn't there an epic Middlesborough run/final?

Yep, including a crazy comeback vs Steaua Bucharest. The commentary for this game is one of my favourites, especially when the last goal goes in
